I'm not sure if she'd meet the fame criteria, but American feminist academic and author Susan Gubar has been suffering from advanced ovarian cancer since 2008.

Steve Perryman collapsed during the second half of Exeter's game with Sheff Utd this afternoon and was taken to hospital, where he is apparently in a "comfortable" condition. No online news sources have reported this yet, but I witnessed the events take place. He was conscious again when he was taken to the ambulance, so hopefully he'll be OK.

Thanks for posting that Bibliogryphon. I remember as a small child having a book about a vintage car, found in a sorry state in a scrapyard and then lovingly restored to it's former glory. Is this Gumdrop? I'd forgotten the title of the book, which is a shame as I wanted to buy it for my own children and to read it again myself. -

Mariah Carey's sister, Alison Carey Scott, is suffering from HIV and liver cancer.... -
Chopper Read, contradicting virtually everything written above, now says he has terminal liver cancer, that he might die within a few weeks or could last as long as six years and can't actually have a liver transplant as there is too much scar tissue (the result of a prison stabbing) in the affected area to make successful surgery possible.

No links I'm afraid, but I heard this evening that the slightly obscure folk singer Louisa Jo Killen was diagnosed with lung cancer last August, although I have no information about how she is doing now. She is probably better known (but still not well known enough for a Wikipedia page) as Louis Killen, however she underwent gender re-assignment surgery at the age of 75... I'm sure she'll get a broadsheet obit when she goes.
