Ah, so that would be why there are folk going about in kilts... I thought that was par for the course at Buckingham Palace dinner parties? If this is about our chat regarding my ancestry the last of the nobility I decend from, died off in 1781. When I say nobility, I mean lower nobility. By lower nobility, I mean they were living in a ruined castle until they started the conversion to Scotland's first lighthouse. This particular fellow, by the end of his days, was bailed out by his nephew and given quarter at Philorth House...which was asi to have been burned down by a German sympathiser during WW1. When he died, he was good enough to leave his only child 10 pounds in his will, which she didn't accept. She felt insulted that he hadn't married her mother because his mother didn't approve (or at least that is the story). His mother was the daughter of the 12th Lord Saltoun. Therefore, I can't see my half 14th cousin 4 times removed inviting me round to her house for tea.

Alternatively, it may be a good idea for the police to check who had the hired car at the time of Maddie's disappearance. They would have done that already. Right? I should be a detective. I have Sky TV which means that I've seen every episode of 'Murder She Wrote' at least twice...

Sky News are saying that the DNA evidence is 100% Maddie is substantial in quantity. They also said that it was said to be like seepage from a decomposing body. I hope their suitcases were checked when they entered the UK...

Urinating in public. I was walking the dog this evening in a highly residential area of the town before dark when I passed an 11(ish) year old pissing against a wall. I was walking up Dennyduff Road infont of the Academy playing fields. There is a wall separating the school grounds from the pavement I was on. The ground is much higher on the school side. So basically, this asshole was peeing on that wall whilst looking me in the eye whilst I passed through a wire fence. I couln't believe it. He sort of looked at me as if to say. "What are you looking at"? I understand that when you need to go you need to go - but there were more appropriate hidden away corners that he could have used! I really shouldn't leave the house because I always end up back here. Brace yourselves as I have the opticians on Saturday. If he is anything like my dentist I'll have quite a bit to get through...

I don't recall any statues in the UK in honour of George Washington, in the same way they haven't had one stuck in front of the Arc De Triomphe for Ho Chi Minh It said on the news that Mandela's statue was near to a statue of Abraham Lincoln. How does it come to pass that Lincoln gets a statue but Washington didn't? Must be racial awareness corner or something.

Well today is a very special day. It is a day of great importance to a very special lady. It is a day for the celebration of her life by many of her faithful fans. This lady has touched many of us (not like that) in such a small amount of time. Yes, it is the 10th anniversary of Diana's funeral. Bring back memories of your 30th LG? Happy 40th Birthday at 11PM Lady G! Still got about 9 hours of being in your thirties.

Do I sense a narrow mind? Or simply someone who likes to go against the conventional way of thinking? I will admit that my knowledge of South Africa and her politics is not as good as it could be. I do, however, find your statement to be an unreasonable summary. My facts were straight. Mandela got the statue because the conventional ideas of the day portray Mandela as a figure who fought for freedom. Like I have said in my previous post, it has been decided that his means met a satisfactory end. I do find it quite sad that you can sit at your computer and say he was arrested for treason, and he co-ordinated a sabotage campaign without looking at why he thought it was necessary. This may be a bit too simple an answer, but basically white settlers denied the native people (yes I am aware that term may not be PC) any say in the running of their country. They were denied the right to vote, and kept under control by the authorities. Tell me, had you been a black man living under these conditions in South Africa - would you have sat back and 'known your place'? Would you have supported a government system that had no regard for you or your people whatsoever? I suppose the problem here is that terrorists around the world could cliam the same reason for their struggle. That is why Mandela's history is open to interpretation.

I suppose it all depends on your interpretation and worldview. If that's the way we are playing it, George Washington was a terrorist too. I would go further with this statement, but if I claim him to be the founder of American liberty, I will be shot down from 100 different directions. Lets take down all his statues. I suppose with Mandela, the world has accepted that his means met a decent ends.
