Oh well. Looks like my 3 definate candidates for DDP 2008 are about to become a pair.

Modern ideas? I was watching an old war movie from 1943 (long days). I've forgotten the name of the film, but it followed the career of an old soldier from the Boer War, through WWI, and to what was present day in WWII. In it, there was an old German WW1 veteran and ex-PoW who fled Hitler in the 1930s speaking to the main character, the English Major-General. When discussing the war, the german said that there was little doubt that Germany lost the war, but more as to who actually won it. I thought you were supposed to be the philosopher of the pack. PS. It has been claimed that the Germans (or at least the West side) were the real winners of WW2 due to the fact that an endless supply of money was poured into the West German economy as a means to prevent the 'domino effect' coming any further West. The same has been claimed about Japan. The industries of both these countries had been flattened. When the war ended, they were rebuilt according to the more modern means of production which allowed them to out perform existing, wornout British methods. It must be noted that these 'winners' are not the same as the victors of war.

Could this be a repeat of the Diana/Camilla argument? Banshees, you are one of the most shallow people that I've ever had the misfortune to meet (albeit online). Perhaps it hasn't occured to you that rather than just wanting a thing called 'wo-man', he wanted Kate Hudson.

With all due respects to Canadian Paul: 1) The DDP is on a much larger scale than the CPDP. The DDP entered about 500 teams this year - CP didn't get 50. 2) If Canadian Paul's timetable is anything like mine, he is still on holiday (only just). It would, therefore benefit him to get this out of the way before his studies start. The DDP organisers have jobs. 3) What exactly is it you are after, Banshees?

This means another hit for rotten ali on his shadowlist. The good news is that we are now (almost) even with non-celebrities on our shadow lists. I had three, and he had three (not counting Lindsay Hughes). Last count, I had 15 hits - now he has 12. I can assure him that at the end of the year, I will have stripped his team down (and mine) to cater to the Deathlist unofficial rule book. Call it sour grapes if you want to.

Here is my philosophy. Banshees Scream is an arsehole and a complete annoyance to everybody in the DL community. I say we ban his IP address. Ban that particular IP address, and we will have peace not only from Banshees Scream, but also from The Philosopher. Kill two (or more) birds with one stone!

This won't be the last we hear of Jane. I'm sure Mr. Tomlinson will have a book deal about life with Jane - probably with an inspirational and meaningful title. As well as that, I'm quite sure that Mike and the kids will have a day out at the Palace to look forward to. Unless her CBE insignia was posted, she still has to collect it (going by usual timetables).
-
Indeed, well done. Site updated to reflect the death of Jane Tomlinson, which, of course, puts Stabby in first place in the Ordinary Team category and the rest of us in second. Given that she was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the most recent honours list, you could argue that it is quite a big miss for my theme team. For some strage reason, I didn't even consider her.

Indeed, that's why I'm thankful it's a Tuesday...
-
Perhaps it would be fitting if she had the same inscription as Spike Milligan on her grave stone...

Right on the money! Peace, The Philosopher Thank god you were bailed out on that one. Tit. That statement still makes no sense. It contains about as much wisdom as a bowl of cornflakes. If we are talking about the universe falling in on itself, then surely there would be no 'generally' about it?
-
The Philosopher, eh? I've seen more wisdom in a five year old.
-
Now you're just being silly. He obviously took it off.

Things To Do While Waiting For Death... 2007

Empty your inboxes so that people can PM you. Eh, Han? -
Still on dial up W? Thought you would have switched to broadband by now (even my 76 year old father has it!), it is much cheaper and you are, after all, a canny Aberdonian . There is too much choice. Also, when I hear about the teethung problems others have had, I just think it's better to stick with what I have. Even if it does render my wireless laptop usless at home.
-
SC, I often get a 'lag' when in chat. I just thought that it was due to my prehistoric dial-up connection...

I'm not a great believer in ghosts however there has been an increase in supernatural activity in my place of work (care home) this weekend. Yesterday, I was standing in the kitchen speaking to the cook at her side of the kitchen. At the time my workmate was using the toilet. As I was speaking, I saw a figure out of the corner of my eye. I turned to speak to what I thought was my workmate to tell him, 'About time'. When I turned, there was no one there. I walked to the other side of the kitchen. No sign of anyone. I then asked the cook, 'Did you see someone coming in here just now?'. She said she thought she did. She then did exactly the same as me and checked the other side of the kitchen. We both just looked at each other rather spooked out. We were absolutely convinced that we saw a figure walk across the kitchen - but didn't see anyone when we turned round. After the cook left on the same day, me and my workmate were left to clean down the kitchen. I went off to get my coat and when I got back into the kitchen, my workmate looked at me the same way the cook had looked at me earlier on. He explained that he thought that he had seen, from the corner of his eye, someone going into the cupboard. When he looked up, there was no-one there. It's pretty odd that all this happened on the same day. It's not like we freaked each other out by the first incident - we just had a laugh about that. Then today, I overheard one of the carers saying that people had been seeing a figure going about the carehome. I then told her that we had seen something in the kitchen the previous day. She then told me that many people had had the same experience. Escpecially regarding one particular figure wearing a hat. Spooky.

This. I don't think Hitler asked if they minded him changing the German Republic into the German Reich! God help them. One of these days Salmond will have the misfortune of meeting me! I will destroy him! Anyway, moving on... I would like to put the local police in Room 101 - again. I'm sure I've told you about my workmate's family's run ins with the law. If not here, in chat I've told you about his father, him, and his grandfather being treated rather shitty by the law. Well this week it was the turn of the younger brother... He had been out mucking about with his friends one night when a gang approached him asking the whereabouts of one of his friends. He did not know where the friend was and so that was that. So he got home and was on the computer, speaking to his friends on one of those networking sites when he got a messages informing him, from several of these gang members, that they were now 'after' him. Over the week it became worse. He was being chased etc and had to be let out of school early and all that, generally making his life hell. He decided that enough was enough and went to the police. He was told by the police that there was nothing they could do about it because there were 15 of them and only 1 of him. Therefore, their word outnumbered his. This struck me as being completely absurd. Is this how bullying is allowed to continue?

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries ,etc ...for 2007

When I logged in there were 99,998 posts and no-one around - so I thought I'd make a dash for it. -
Sir John Compton's health has worsened and he is now in intensive care. Might be a unique hit for Windsor on the CPDP coming up... Excellent. I was hoping he would make it until DDP time, but oh well. I'm sure he'll get some sort of UK obit given that he is still Prime Minister of one of the Queen's Realms. He also has a wiki page so that leaves me with very little to worry about (except a recovery).

Thanks CP, but I think I'll pass on the updates. I get enough email notifications from other websites. Sad as it sounds seeing that you have an email only to find it's a notification email is like getting all excited over a text message only to find that it's from Orange. By the way, I've never heard of the Canadians I put on my team. I believe that they are ill and Canadian, so that's good enough for me. One more thing. To save confusion, Earl Douglas Haig, Earl is his title, not his Christian name. Nice work though.

That's me entered too. Same theme team as last year. Hope it still counts as they give them out to anyone these days. Even Americans...

Some people think she's an angel, some people think she's a devil, some people manage to be balanced. Pretty much the way it's always been. We don't let banned members rejoin regardless of who they descend from. If we see an application and we can tell it's a banned member reapplying, we have to delete it. Is that right? Would never have guessed... It wouldn't hurt to lighten up a bit, Entropy. Perhaps I should petition my half 14th cousin 4 times removed, Queen Elizabeth II. Then again, she has probably been banned from your realm as well. Not Liberal enough even by her standard... Perhaps you should. Let me know what Cousin Lilibet has to say. Cousin Elizabeth is rather busy these days. She doesn't have time for such trivial matters. Besides, I don't have her mobile number silly.
