The last time I checked, phone hacking scandals didn't cause cancer. I think Cameron will be losing sleep over this - mainly because it shows that he can't be trusted. Cameron only won the election because he was just able to convince enough voters he was more trustworthy than your normal Tory. On the other hand, I think he will survive as PM because I don't think his party can afford to chuck him. Even with this scandal, he is their best electoral asset. Even with the weaker Miliband leading the labour party, who else could win an election for the Tories? George Osbourne? Theresa May? William Hague? More worryingly, if the PM does resign, would that mean Nick Clegg becomes acting PM until the Conservatives elect a new leader? More importantly - would this new leader accept the Lib Dems, and would the Lib Dems accept him/her? Or would the Coalition collapse? In short, his party will stick by him because they have much to lose if he goes. If he keeps his party, he keeps his job.

My step-niece. She has decided to get back with her ex-boyfriend, the father of her bastard child. Not six months ago she split up with him saying he was a possessive bully, who stopped her seeing her family, who also put her kid at risk by not strapping her into a baby seat whilst driving, who also apparently took drugs. My brother-in-law has spent hundreds of pounds in solicitor bills to prevent the boyfriend from hassling his daughter (at her request) and to get maintenance from the said then ex-boyfriend. Now, on a whim, she has decided this boyfriend is the love of her life, and I daresay my brother-in-law is soon to be unfairly laden with the blame of splitting them up. This means he probably won't get to see his granddaughter, even though he has brought her up over the last few months while his daughter abdicates her responsibilities to go about drinking and shagging a succession of young men. When I say succession, I mean succession. She was never single, and in the last instance the ex-boyfriend didn't even know he was dumped until he read on facebook that she was in a relationship with someone else. He should have expected it, because she was still shagging another ex-boyfriend when she started shagging him. In short, my step-niece is a spoilt, attention seeking slut who is a poor excuse for a mother. Quite frankly I hope her newly re-beloved gives her a really hard time, and that her father doesn't intervene to help her when she isn't getting it all her own way in the relationship. In short - she needs a good battering. The whole situation is contrived for attention.

Because as well as being descended from Edward I, they are also descended from the Kings of Scotland. So although one branch of the incumbents family did take the Stone of Scone, members from another branch were trying to prevent English occupation. So it balances out really. Plus, if Mel Gibson's portrayal of Scottish history is to be believed, Edward III was the son of William Wallace so the Queen isn't descended from Longshanks afterall... Glad they kept it all in the family. (Have to admit I have never watched Braveheart. By the way, most of my knowledge of modern Scottish culture comes from Hamish MacBeth... ) At least the Royals are good enough to come and visit you by staying in that nice little holiday shack at Balmoral from time to time... Indeed, the Queen even visited Fraserburgh in 1992...it really was her annus horribilis.
