Gentlemen! I have the perfect forum for you to undertake such a duel (date and place forthcoming...). Perhaps our beloved admin can add souvenir fight programmes to the DL merch.

Well, if she spent all that time around those dangerous x-ray machines no wonder she came down with cancer. She was practically a tumour waiting to happen! It therefore seems to me quite hypocritical of her to now be traipsing around the western world, vying for sympathy attention donations towards finding a cure for something she pretty much brought on herself. Radiographer indeed. Unless she was always careful to wear one of those fancy lead aprons. In which case, my bad.

Oh I see... I thought maybe it was 'we' as in 'the entire editorial staff of the BBC' or something exciting like that. My mistake!
-
Who is "we"?
-
But what if we meet up and discover we all hate each other? It's one thing to co-exist amicably in text, but in real life? The DL might fall into a state petty squabblings or worse - vicious member vs. member attacks. Would we ever recover?

I once rode my bike into a hedge in front of my house whilst slightly inhebriated. I was aiming for the space between the house and the fence, but missed. As I was travelling at little more than zero mph, no damage was done to either myself or the hedge, but my mother still tells the story at Christmas dinner and the like. On a thematic note, I have never suffered any fish-related injuries.

This has gotta be worth some points, surely! Quality ranting, JLR, absolute quality. Shame that attention was swayed elsewhere as a result of the multiplicitous and lesser-quality PH ranters. I'm sure Mr Lynch would be proud to have you amongst his small but effective contingent of ranters. Nice work, sailor! Methinks JLR's post was tongue in cheek! Really? [despondent]Oh..[/despondent] I kind of wish you hadn't told me that!

Are you advocating an elite? If so... may I say, Hein, how dashing you look holding that scythe. May I also say, DWB, how eloquently you employ emoticons.

I'll have you know I put a lot of effort and time into that - in case you hadn't noticed it's all HTML. If you didn't like it, you didn't have to join. Perhaps we should amend "pub" to "handbags at dawn"?

Where Have All The Ranters Gone?
in eternum+ replied to Paul Bearer's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Hello Eddy, and welcome to our forum! You seem like a friendly and intelligent person, just like (most of) us. Sorry I was unable to respond earlier. My feeling on the matter is that death is, in fact, not a taboo subject. I think the statement "death is taboo" has become a stock phrase that people use without thinking, before launching into talking about this "taboo" subject. Death is all around us, people are seeing it and talking about all different kinds of death (private death, public death, etc.) all the time. I mean, let's face it: how many someone's-dying?-quick!-let's-cathch-it-on-film C4 and C5 documentaries have there been over the past couple of years? Admittedly, there might be aspects of death, dying and bereavement which are still taboo-ish, but I think the phrase is outdated. Death was taboo 20 years ago, and death was taboo when Gorer wrote The Pornography of Death but times have changed. That's what I think, anyway. If it's a morbid Eddy(ie)-related avatar you're after, what about this? It seems pretty deathesque to me... Again, welcome! -
Really? Why has nobody mentioned this yet?? (PS. Wasn't he 27?)

Where Have All The Ranters Gone?
in eternum+ replied to Paul Bearer's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
What I found quite interesting about reading the PH thread was how, on page 15, the ranters sort of turned on each other. Aside from the usual quasi-illiterate, vuglar, threatening rants, quite a few intelligent, thoughtful ranters have posted as well. I think this speaks somewhat to the quality of some of PH's fans, i.e. they're not all unintelligent halfwits. What a great read! It's about time we had some lively debate around here. -
Why would we be happy? He wasn't on the list... I liked Paul Hunter, he was a charasmatic player in his own way. I think his death is a loss for the world of snooker. Paul

The best almost-death in a film, so far as I'm concerned, was Benicio del Toro's character digging his own grave in the desert, topless and all sweaty, in the film Traffic. [gets all tingly]mmmmm.... digging his own grave... topless and all sweaty... [/gets all tingly]

Things To Do While Waiting For Death... 2006

If being conscienscious about the environment is your thing, may I recommend Promessa. -
Maybe he invented the Filet-O-Fish for McDonalds 1-part fish, 499-part sawdust?

What about some of the Disney deaths, like in Bambi. I appreciate how girly that sounds, but I know plenty of guys who admit to having wept during the film . There's an interesting article by Gary Laderman called The Disney Way of Death, in which he asserts that children, rather than being sheltered from death, are in fact introduced to it via Disney films. It's been a while since I read the article, and although I found it interesting I remember feeling that his argument was weak in certain ways.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! I hope vast amounts of turkey and pumpkin pie were enjoyed by all! -
Weakling! Barely a fortnight away and you buckled! Poor show, old bean!

Well, we can cross Rory McGrath off the celeb suicide-watch list. I passed him in the street today, and he didn't look the slightest bit suicidal. He was, admittedly, barefoot, but I don't think that signifies anything particularly notable. One down...

If you make the playing of a certain song a condition of any inheritance, then your wishes are quite likely to be adhered to. From what I understand, even such a stipulation is not legally binding. Like the whole Hollywood movie concept of to inherit x million pounds you must marry within the year etc.... Entirely legally non-enforcable. Though I don't have any facts currently to hand to back this assertion up.

My goodness! How quickly they (aka I) forget! It didn't even occur to me t actually click on the link... So I see this election of song is referring to the choices alive people are currently making about the future. I guess that makes sense, then. Of course, the question that arises in my mind is: how many of these 51% answered that they wanted Angels played if and/or when they were asked the same question a few years ago? Fickle bastards. As you noted, mpfc, there is a significant margin for error in these stats (how typical of the news media to propagate skewed facts to fit a snappy headline!). My own experience suggests that funereal music requests are typically made by the bereaved to the funeral director, who then arranges things appropriately. Let's not forget that in such matters the dead have no rights, so even if I die and request a specific funeral song in my will or in pre-need arragements, immediate family members can override that decision if they so choose. [Edit: TF - is it possible I'm reading snarkiness and/or facaeciousness* in the tone of this post? Surely not, seeing as how you posted the link in the first place. Not my fault you elect to consume the biases of the news media. *(Okay, I have no idea how to spell that, nor does Cambridge Dictionary Online. But you take my point I'm sure.)]
