Good god, that must have taken some effort to compose. Surely not as much, though, as it took to trawl through. There's several minutes of my life I'll never get back...

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries ,etc ...for 2007
in eternum+ replied to football_fan's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Happy Birthday, Cap'n!! I hope that the Captain's Mate whips you up something delicious to mark the day. -
Has the rubbish BS finally been vanquished into Room 101? Hurrah! It's about time.

Perhaps you should also consider embracing the capital letter. I'm not a receptionist, and i can't type. Everyday is a learning day though Interesting. Are you suggesting that only receptionists and typists should be required to employ the English language correctly?

May I take this opportunity to congratulate whoever it was who came up with the snappy title for Deedes' death on the home page. I think it's hilarious; it makes me smile every time I read it.

Well this is great news on the DL-success front! Who woulda thought that after years of list-compiling, the selection committee might have actually got it right again this year? I reckon they may well deserve to have a round bought for them at the impending con.

Hm... assumedly you're talking about Edith. The various times I've heard the segment you're referring to it's been things like: ways you've ended long-term relationships or most embarrassing location you've found yourself in, the morning following a booze-up. I remember one in particular when the topic was getting on the housing/property ladder (the "guest" was a mortgage advisor at a bank or something); Edith kept repeating how "serious" the topic was, compared to "the usual" subjects discussed. Not quite sure how death would go down as a topic...

What fantastic news!! At this rate, we'll have TONS to hits by the end of the year! (I think it's a shame to see the bulk of posts about her death (hurrah!) are regarding various DP teams. There are specific threads for the DDP etc.. Can't we just celebrate our own success in the candidates' thread, and have DP scoring discussions in the relevant threads? I mean, I'm all for DP teams, but this is the DL and not a general DP-comparison site.)

Good god! There's now a "rate me" option in our profiles!

Not a bad idea at all. Hm... is that, like, a meta-shirt?
-
Oddly, I was in the process of having a t-shirt made with my first avatar - the smoking fox - on the front. Looks like it'll come in handy on November 2nd. And quite possibly even more handy on November 3rd.
-
I don't think that's such a shab idea, tbh. Although being a poor and/or starving student, I may simply make a button of my avatar instead. That way everyone'll recognise me. (Hm... perhaps I'll make a button of someone else's avatar and wear that instead, just to stir things up... on second thought, perhaps I shan't make a button at all, but will simply show up claiming to be some other member... [begins hatching dastardly plan] ...the possibilities are endless... [/begins hatching dastardly plan])

Is DL Corrupting Your Morals?
in eternum+ replied to Lord Fellatio Nelson's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I've been told I taste fantastic. Is that what you're on about? -
I thought this was discussed elsewhere but I couldn't find it, so... Turns out that Keef really did snort his dad's ashes, after all. So says Keef: "What I found out is that ingesting your ancestors is a very respectable way of... y'know, he went down a treat." Mmmm... ancestors...

CLS. Have I ever mentioned before that consistency is a virtue?

Ah yes, the Wiki Wars. I remember them well...

+ = Hm. It seems to me that what constitutes "important or highly significant" can be interpreted variously. On a personal level, Scriabin's death is far more significant to me than JFK's. I appreciate that sounds flippant, but I don't intend it to be so. Perhaps the latter's death was important as it was a high profile assassination, but other than that, and aside from the consipiracy theorists who tend to hype things up, I don't buy into it being the most important death ever simply because the media tell me it should be so. I'm not an American citizen. Scriabin's death, other the other hand, had far more of an influence on me given how and when I learned about it. On a broader level, the man was attempting to bring about the end of civilisation for chrissakes! Surely his death is tremendously significant! I mean come on: who knows what things would be like if he'd succeeded. (There wouldn't have been a JFK assassination, for one thing.) And let's face it, he was definitely onto something... bells hanging from clouds? A winner if ever there was one.
-
I think that, to date, my favourite death is that of Alexander Scriabin, who was an early 20C Russian composer. He was a megalomaniac and believed that he was going to bring about the end of the world with his composition Mysterium: Preparation for the Final Mystery, which involved (among other things) bells hanging from clouds (if I remember correctly from my undergrad days, which I do). He died at a young age, when a spot on his lip turned septic after he cut himself shaving. That's what you get for harbouring delusions of grandeur, I suppose.

Too true. Facebook seems impossible to link - anyone have a clue. I tried to send someone a link but it just went to the login page. The first link here is trying to connect to the Bath network which is not my network and it isn't working. Grr facebook - why are you so addictive yet so crap! Hm... you're right. The links worked fine when I was simultaneously logged into facebook, but when I logged out and tried again, they didn't work. Anwyay, if you type 'death list' into the facebook search, the above-named-yet-unaccessible groups appear around pp3 - 4.
-
Although this isn't related to the football forum (or whatever it's called) this thread seemed the most suitable place for... I was having a nose round facebook, and I'm sure nobody will be surprised to hear that there are a few facebook deathlist/deadpool competitions afoot! There's this one*, this one and, er, this one to name but a few (though the last group appears to only have one active player... whose selections are a bit random). What struck me is that a number of the facebook teams bear a striking resemblance to our very own DL selections. Either there are various DL members running amok dead pools on facebook, or we've become an invaluable source of information of the very old / terminally ill kind. And if the latter is the case, then we should have our own Wiki page, goddammit. *One may need to belong to facebook in order to open these links, not sure.

Whey-hey! That's some sweet action! Do we get extra points for tons of deaths in one month? (Can't be bothered to see if this is a record - Windsor?) Ah Bergman... allegedly the most boring man ever... At least you've helped us towards a successful 2007.
