    Princess Diana

A friend of mine told me that there was going to be a programme on Channel 5 about false mass grieving. She said it was supposed to be on on Friday at 19:15, but it didn't appear to be. Anyone know about this? Have I missed it, or is it still to be aired? They may discuss the deceased Princess, as I believe that at the time of her death, there was a segment of the public who resented the pressure put on them by the media etc. to grieve for her.

    Most Obsessive Deathlisters

Why do you think that is? Is it because no one really takes the monarchy seriously anymore? When I first moved to England I met a woman my age (I was in my early 20s) who got annoyed with me because I made a joke about the Queen, and I actually thought she was kidding around. Then, when I realised she was serious, I was quite shocked. Unless you yourself are kidding around, in which case I'm very confused...

Hm. I'm starting to feel a bit inadequate. Many members who have joined after me have whizzed past in terms of post nuimbers. Is this how we measure a member's worth, by the size of the post tally? If that's the case then perhaps

    Saddam Hussein

Surely he should be considered for the '07 or '08 list? There's bound to be an appeal or two. Hell, I reckon that there is more of a chance that he will in fact die from natural causes before he and his underwear shuffle up to the humming chair.

Bush's cluelessness is truly breath-taking. Almost every decision he's made since invading Iraq has been baffling. The comic strip Doonesbury made a very good point this week - why didn't he just meet with Cindy Sheehan, the mother of the US soldier killed in Iraq who has been protesting outside his ranch? Even if he didn't care what she was saying, you'd have thought just to end the issue Bush would agree to see her. He then decides to fly over New Orleans in Air Force One to "have a look", before heading up to Washington, where he doesn't immediately order massive logistical support for an evacuation. But he did urge all Americans to pray, which I'm sure will be of assistance to the homeless and dying in NO. I believe Cheney and Rumsfeld are now the only two people on earth who don't think the Guantanamo prison camp should be closed, and W loyally/blindly lets them get their way. He sticks his nose into the Iraq constitution debate just enough to force negotiations to end before a compromise could be reached. A chimp, scratching the dirt with a stick, would through sheer dumb luck be a more effective decision-maker. I couldn't agree more. When I heard him declare a few days ago that there was to be a "zero-tolerance" policy on looting, I felt like ripping my hair out in anguish. If all he can do is re-iterate one worn-out and meaningless catchphrase after another, there is something seriously wrong with the state of politics in the US.

No problem. I'm in touch with my masculine side. Are Clinton and Bush Sr being roped into the the relief effort simply because they were more popular presidents and the US gov't is using them to try and make Jr look, well, not as bad as he actually does look, to avoid the mutiny of the people? I think Bush Jr could do with being added to the above-mentioned list. Honestly, if I were American I'd be so ashamed of my government right now. Of course, I'm heading over to the States next month so should probably be quite careful what I say on the Internet; I may get taken aside for "questioning" at customs and end up in Guantanamo.

    Jane Tomlinson Killer Ride

This is what I'll be doing with my spare time. Don't know if that makes me an 'expert' or not. Any other DL sickos going to be there? You'll be gutted to have missed this Rather! Wow, there were some serious big names there!! Absolutely gutted I missed it. Sigh... Though it's great to see that Death Studies is alive and kicking in the Uk.

    They deserve to die

Ah! Assumedly you say this in jest, but I think there are classical musicians who are just as guilty as other types. What's the point in performing something that emulates exactly what another performer has done, be it classical, pop, rock, etc.? It's the exact same principle: if you're going to perform a piece of music surely you should bring your own interpretation to it, no? And I'd like to agree with Cerberus above. I'm hardly a hardcore member/poster, but some of the guests who post seriously wind me up. I fully support arguing contentious issues etc., but guests who just appear and then don't like one or two members and whinge a whole lot get on my t*ts.

    They deserve to die

Hello all! I'd like to add "artists" (singers, bands, etc., though I use the term loosely) who make covers of songs that sound exactly like the originals, to the point where you can't even tell if it's the original or not. It drives me CRAZY!! Aside from the obvious - selling out - what's the point?? They're not contributing anything new to the music world, and all they're doing is blatantly cashing in on somebody else's success. As far as I'm concerned it's out-and-out plagarism and anyone who does it should be made to suffer a slow and painful demise.

    Paul Hunter

If Paul makes it through this year, gets onto the 2006 list, and then snuffs it, would he be the youngest successful DL nominee ever? Um... I know I could probably find the answer to this myself, but it's a lot easier just to ask. And I'm sure one of you esteemed DeathList members will have the answers at your fingertips! I quite like Paul Hunter, by the way. I always thought he was a bit of a snooker babe. Until he started wearing the alice band.

    what a stupid forum

Perhaps. Or maybe s/he suffers from the lesser-known 'Post-Before-You-Think' Syndrome. If the ranters thread is anything to go by, this appears to be a disease which is afflicting more and more people.

    what a stupid forum

This is a fair enough point of view, but there's a huge difference between what you've just said and accusing members of this forum of having a fear of death, suicidal tendancies, and/or death-related mental issues.
