New Here And Just Saying Hello

Hi JJ There are some pools that are not calendar based that you can join anytime 20/20+2 is one as each round is new but the scoring is based off the year you would be playing on catch up (as dear old Henry Kelly used to say) but you could get in some useful practice for the 20/20+3 game that will start in January I addition the Scavenger Hunt Bingo Dead Pool could end any day now (or in 7 months time) and this one is really wild as you can't always play the usual suspects Welcome aboard

    The Happy Birthday Thread

Dear old Antonia, a unique DDP pick for my theme team which had a good first half of the year

    World's Oldest

I do not think a sample size of four against the several billion people who have lived will give us a very good degree of confidence about that 100% prediction

    World's Oldest

If Lucile Randon dies before her next birthday she will be the only verified person to die aged 118. The previous three that got past 117 made it to 119

    Death Anniversary Thread

It was a rare year where I had actually seen 4 out of the five nominated films at the cinema. I would have given the Oscar to any of them above Braveheart even Il Postino (the one I didn't see) Apollo 13 was very good as well

    Quotations

N: You're having so many good ideas you should be careful your foot doesn't fall off Q: Is that what happens then when you have lots of good ideas? N: Yes, My brother had the good idea of cutting his toenails with a scythe and his foot fell off

The biggest crime Braveheart committed was that it robbed Babe of the best picture Oscar that year

Good spot - I have amended my masterlist But at the current rate we could lose another 7 of the crowdsourced list

    Ideas and possibilities for 2023

Those 19 in full 1. Frank Field - Was flavour of the month for picking at the end of 2021 but how ill is it. A lot of speculation based on one statement on his behalf in the British parliament. 2. Pope Benedict XVI - The only pick that has appeared on 7 Crowdsourced lists that is not on the main list 3. George Alagiah - Was No.1 pick on DDP teams in 2022. This must count for something 4. Glynis Johns - Is 2023 her time for a DL Debut? 5. Jerry Lee Lewis - Second highest New entry on the list 6. James Whale - Doesn't seem to be as ill as all that 7. Linda Nolan - Suggestions she is fading have recently surfaced 8. Joanne Woodward - A huge miss if she goes this year 9. Shannen Doherty - I am split on whether she should be included 10. Milos Zeman - Might not be the sort of name that makes the list 11. Yoko Ono - Dropped eight places since last year but still very DL type name who should be on the list 12. James Watson - First appearance on the Crowdsourced list but I think he is ready for the main list 13. Barbara Walters - A name that I was unfamiliar with until she started being discussed here. The discussion seems to outweigh her actual health condition 14. Francoise Hardy - Does the DL need a liitle more continental appeal? 15. Norman Lear - Old but healthy. Over 100 on debut, is that looked down upon? 16. Jiang Zemin - Could be a good pick for 2023 17. Jake 'The Snake' Roberts - No thank you from the campaign for no wrestlers on the Death List 18. Jean Marsh - Reportedly in ill health for a while. High time for her on the main list 19. David Graham - A big yes from me (but what else did you expect) has continued to work though

    Death Anniversary Thread

Absolutely There has been a distinct rise in the quality of biographies on a number of threads which are absolutely fascinating. I only brought up Lancaster because Leicester was my home town and we are very sensitive about people trying to steal our cultural treasures

Tom Weiskopf makes that 14 and so only 19 available for picking for the next DL

    Ideas and possibilities for 2023

I am not contending with her fame level or deserving of an obituary I was just thinking about how much coverage she got here. She was a hit in 20/20 + 2 for which she is only just eligible but in the DDP JT 3 vs PR 6

    Thoughts On The 2022 List

Looking at my spreadsheet. If we get another hit it will be the latest fifth hit in the year of the 13 years recorded on my spreadsheet. Previous latest was 2014 with Day 218 (6th August) Just gone back to check on all lists since the 50 limit was decided on only two fifth deaths have been later 1997 Mother Theresa (4th September) 2010 Cyril Smith (3rd September)

    Ideas and possibilities for 2023

Last night I watched the Jimmy Saville documentary on Netflix. Roger Ordish (b.1939) was the Jim'll Fix It producer who appeared as a talking head in the Documentary He looked quite old, doesn't have a wiki page but surely would garner BBC obits

    Ideas and possibilities for 2023

Further to my post above if you look at the 50 names on the Crowdsourced List 13 have died of the remainder 17 are already on the Main DL which leaves only 20 big names to fill up the 25 places that you need to find on the main list. Most of the names on the Crowdsourced are Deathlisty so there is no real issue with eligibility though the committee seem reluctant to select Glynis Johns

    20 /20

So @Death Impends misses out on a podium finish three left in contention Ben Ferencz (Joey Russ) Loretta Ford (ThereWillBeDeaths7) Arnold Yarrow (Bibliogryphon)

    Shadow Lists

I drafted my first version of my 2023 Shadow List at the beginning of last week and have already had to make two substitutions.
  25. Bibliogryphon

    Ideas and possibilities for 2023

One potential consequence of the number of 'misses' for the committee does represent a challenge for 2023 because they are largely from the pool of people who would make up the 25 'new' drafts into the list.
