The leader at the next election will be punished by the party if they lose badly. If they only lose by 20 seats or so (much better than current polls) they might get cut some slack but it will be left to a new leader to rebuild in the luxury of opposition -

Doctor Who is the BBC's only long running drama. Its cultural impact goes way beyond what is currently on screen. I think people are hoping for a Finale which justifies what has gone before. I do not have high hopes but the brand will go on.

At the moment they are reporting a dozen which still leaves him with a working majority. It needs to be almost triple that to have the desired impact -
If Boris holds off he cannot guarantee winning his seat at a GE so it might be now or never. Rishi Sunak might calculate that the leader after a GE will have a bit more opportunity albeit no power

Yes there was an ambiguous phrase in a write up of his prospects I saw that said he is very guarded about scrutiny of his private life (or words to that effect). I think the problem is that he is the only cabinet member on top of his brief but I think he recognises that does not automatically make him PM material -
