I have mentioned this before but I was listening to In Our Time this morning and Melvyn Bragg was sounding scratchier than usual

Read Any Good Books Lately?

He is part of my theme team -
Kane Tanaka is my fourth hit on my shadowlist

If you are committed to keeping the monarchy you do it by the book. Only if Charles were to be so frail or incapable at the point the Queen dies should any alternative be considered. However I do think that the next Labour Government should establish a constitutional commission to review the whole of the constitution from Head of State through House of Lords and all the associated patronage

Just seen an analysis on Twitter whereby there is a cabal forming around Jeremy Hunt to essential hobble Tom Tugendhat not that they do not want him as leader but there is a concern that if it comes down to a choice between Tom Tugendhat and Liz Truss the membership would opt for Liz Truss.

Plaque unveiling at BBC Riverside Studios allows everyone who has Bob Harris, Carole Ann Ford or Frazier Hines in their teams to realise this is not their year.

Entries are now closed so if you have a good idea save it for 2023 Assuming this game is going to be done sooner than the last one With many more picks and some frail looking performers this could be done by Christmas but I suspect it will drag into next year. I mean Alain Delon isn't even dead yet. I am minded to exclude documentaries from Game IV.
-
The number of documentaries that get a cinema release is relatively small so it would have to be something very significant like Supersize Me or An Inconvenient Truth to be eligible in the first place.

A Unique hit for @DeathByArsenic which is their first hit in the competition so goes from nothing to two hits to win

Authors Last A Long Time, But....
Bibliogryphon replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList Forum
One of the contributors was on Radio 4 saying that many books were sacrificed in bringing the list down to 70 and her particular choice The Golden Notebook was one of those that missed out -

Authors Last A Long Time, But....
Bibliogryphon replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList Forum
The BBC and Reading Charities have published a list of 70 titles for the Queen's Jubilee Read The list will contain 10 books for each decade of the Queen's reign from authors across the Commonwealth (I have only read one book on the list) Up to 1982 there are 10 surviving writers George Lamming (b.1927) J M G Le Clezio (b. 1940) Ngugi wa Thiang'o (b.1938) Ayi Kwei Armah (b.1939) Bepsi Sidhwa (b.1938) Alice Munro (b.1931) Athol Fugard (b.1932) Anita Desai (b.1937) Salman Rushdie (b.1947) Thomas Keneally (b.1935) Some of these are already on the radar but others are not -
If it were a contemporary drama and a character appears on a daytime chat show and they get a real life chat show host to play themselves to add authenticity to a scene it seems a legitimate pick likewise if a well known person appears in a comedy to provide a significant joke. Imagine Bill Gates being the customer at an IT helpdesk for example I don't see a problem with it in this context Also there are occasions where actors play exaggerated versions of themselves (more often on TV then film though) In particular I am thinking of Wil Wheaton in The Big Bang Theory I also do not see that it gives a player a particular advantage as getting a film combination with three drain circlers on one play bill who are all famous for other reasons is not easy I will think on it during this round but my inclination is to allow it in future rounds

I was focusing purely on Liz Sheridan as I had forgotten how gcr had got to that stage but it is a conceit of that specific film to have guest cameos as themselves and there are only a handful of films that do that. It is still a game trying to pull three people out of a hat that will go in the game period. No-one seems to have gone down that route in game 3 the closest is @ajlposh who has gone with The Aristocrats

Summer Olympic Deaths/Dead Medallists
Bibliogryphon replied to Stayin Alive's topic in DeathList Forum
I am presuming this is field hockey and therefore should be in Summer Games. -
But Liz Sheridan is an actor. The issue came from the fact that it was an extremely minor role. She would not have been caught by this rule.
-
I actually don't mind these picks. They show creativity and lateral thinking. Both winners have come from traditional picks so it doesn't seem to be a problem.
-
There are a number of people who appear as themselves in some movies so difficult to police.
-
I do see that and there have been no late entries it is really intended for the stragglers rather than the gamers so the late entry period will close on Thursday after that the Masterlist will stand. Also if anyone wants to challenge other players picks on reasonable grounds then please do this by Thursday as well. Acceptable Challenges 1. No theatrical release 2. Actor not appearing in film 3. Actor already dead

Seen Any Good Films Lately?
Bibliogryphon replied to Cowboy Ronnie's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Watched Turning Red on Disney+ earlier. A lot of fun. -
I think this is more a PR exercise. Trying to limit discussion of a rift in the family. I think if Harry thought this was the last time he was going to see his Grandma he would have brought the kids. This was popping in because he was in the area.

RULES Pick a film with at least three (or four) remaining cast members and submit the name of the film and the three selected cast members on this forum The first player to have all three of their cast members die wins the round. No two players can pick the same film but are allowed to duplicate cast members If two players end up with their single remaining pick being the same performer then they are obliged to add a tie breaker to their team this can be any member of their film's cast or crew. At the end of the round entries are wiped and everyone picks again. All films in the previous rounds are out of bounds (though could be reintroduced in the subsequent round). Winning films will go into the Hall of Fame and are out of bounds for the whole game. The Game will start on Sunday 22nd November 2020 but late entries will be permitted. However late entries may not duplicate actors. Those that have already sent me teams via PM will be included on the masterlist other wise post below but check the first game as no duplicates films are allowed.
-
The Official Entry period is now closed and the masterlist on page 1 is the definitive article. Late entries are permitted but no duplicate picks are allowed. You may be better off waiting for Round IV. With a much higher number of players it is possible this will be a shorter game Leslie Phillips is picked by 4 teams and there are a number of picks who are on two teams but it is a wide field and some interesting choices Thank you all for playing
