    Sir John Hurt

He was Caligula in I, Claudius. I was getting confused with Malcolm McDowell who played him in the film version.

    Seen Any Good Films Lately?

I watched Captain Fantastic on the plane it is very good Viggo Mortensen deserves his Oscar nomination and the six children have a real ring of truth about them. However it is not an easy watch but there are some very funny scenes.

    Sir John Hurt

I forgot he had played Alan Clarke. He did seem to be willing to take on roles that were seriously challenging and not automatically accessible. I didn't like his character in the fourth Indiana Jones film but that was such a massive mess it is hardly his fault. He gave the impression that it was important for him to be working as an actor which is why there is such a breadth through Doctor Who, Merlin, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter to the more high brow stuff. Looking at the various post I keep being reminded of stuff that he had been in that I had forgotten.

I have just got off a flight from Addis Ababa and opened this site over breakfast at Frankfurt Airport. It nearly ended up with muesli everywhere. No More War

    Curse Of The Eurovision

Seriously this year no-one would vote for us even if Elton John turned up as our entry.

Curiously the two worst bets on the list are both Bets.

She's not all that interesting, is she? Personally I'm surprised she seems to be such a big name for UK peeps. I can remember her being on a regular TV show with Dick van Dyke when I was very, very young, but she has not impinged upon my world in any way since. I mostly know the name from her television production company because it had the logo like the MGM lion only with a kitten. The company produced shows like St Elsewhwere, Hill Street Blues and Remmington Steele. I think I must have watched whatever was on after them.

    By-Election Bingo

Aye, or warn Deathlist cup players first and then stick a fork in their electricity! Labour haven't picked a candidate yet. If their selection criteria isn't did you vote for Brexit and can you name Stoke City's starting 11 last week they are really fucked. Could this be Ed Balls opportunity for a comeback?

    Thoughts On The 2017 List

No Gord Downie? He seems a dead cert by all the standards. I kept myself to 15 as that is the record but I think he was one of the twenty that I dropped. One of the more ill than famous picks.

    Silvio Berlusconi

It's Italy, there's always elections sooner or later. I think they are held sooner and later

    Political Frailty

What and he hasn't even answered the West Lothian question He has answered the question "Who will be the first casualty on Bibliogryphon's Hare's Pool Team?" He could have hung on just a little longer only 26 points. Does that put me near the top of the leader board?

    Queen Elizabeth II

If Prince Philip goes first, will you switch to posting a solo photo of the Queen every day? In that photo Philip is looking like he would quite like to go now thank you very much (before she starts again)

    Thoughts On The 2017 List

Well Mary Tyler Moors wasn't one of my fatal 15 so I think we should take that as a bonus.

    Queen Elizabeth II

Queenie needs to survive I have 25 inverse deadpool points riding on it.

    Mary Tyler Moore

I kept Valerie but left MTM off. She only scored points for me on the inverse deadpool.

Fucking show-off. What? Why? I think LFN is suggesting that only Posh people shop in Waitrose. It is great in Market Harborough Waitrose shares a car park with Aldi. People come out of Waitrose with a small bag of shopping and then go into Aldi to fill a trolley. It was Deathray, not LFN. Ironically I specifically went to Waitrose because their price for Cirio tinned tomatoes (now that possibly makes me posh) was easily the lowest of all the supermarkets available to me. I also shopped in Home Bargains and Sainsburys yesterday. I'm not a creature of habit when it comes to supermarkets. As I live several miles from the nearest town, and more or less equidistant from several towns, I go to whichever one is likely to serve my purposes at the time. So I may be spotted in Waitrose, Aldi, Sainsburys, Lidl, Tesco or occasionally Iceland. Horses for courses. Be that starter, main or dessert.

    British Character Actors

Many of these actors worked extensively on the stage both before and after Secret Army. Christopher Neame has appeared in Babylon 5 and Star Trek as well as in Ghostbusters II and License to Kill. Terrence Hardiman is best known for his portrayal of the Demon Headmaster in a BBC adaptation of the Gillian Cross books. Jan Francis went on to the long running sit-com Just Good Friends. I suspect many of these actors you may recognise the face but not the name.

    British Character Actors

Following on from the Death of Gordon Kaye and the continuing existence of Bernard Hepton and my own unique DDP Clifford Rose I have compiled a list of 20 Secret Army survivors Bernard Hepton Jan Francis Angela Richards Christopher Neame Clifford Rose Michael Culver Juliet Hammond-Hill Ron Pember Eileen Page Maria Charles Gunnar Moller Stephen Yardley John D. Collins Hazel McBride Paul Shelley Terence Hardiman Michael Byrne Stephen Chase Bruce Montague John Ratzenberger Not all of them will necessarily obit but many of them may be noted on Twitter. Big crossover with Blakes' 7 and Doctor Who

Nobody has picked Andy Burnham which is going to make the Manchester Mayoral election in May much less interesting.

    World War Three

Try reading Earthworks by Brian Aldiss (it is turgid and really only for SF completists but mercifully short) his solution to a world riddled with pollution and over population is a nuclear war.
