General Election 2024?
Bibliogryphon replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
This really is his "Running through Fields of Wheat" moment. The question was what didn't he have as a child. He should have prefixed the answer with an acknowledgement that it was very much something that would not really be considered a hardship for most people. He was not trying to suggest that he has experienced poverty but is just so shit at the whole being normal thing everything just emphasises his privaliged background -

If Hunter and Joe both accept the verdict and take the punishment and are seen to uphold the implementation of US law they can contrast this with Trump's petulant whining that he is being singled out and persecuted However, I suspect Trump doesn't have the humility to not try to use this as a stick to beat Biden with

I am reluctant to speculate on who could be Conservative Leader until after the election and see the make up of the parliamentary party. Anyone accepting that role will almost be resigned to the fact that they will not become Prime Minister so it would not surprise me if an older more experience person took it on almost as a caretaker leader for two years until it pans out how well or badly Starmer is doing. If Reform get some seats that it will enbolden the right and there may be a coming together to form an alliance on the right but that risks a defection of One Nation Tories from the party. Farage will struggle to be a junior partner in any alliance I can't see him playing fiddle to someone even like Kemi Badenoch but he will have a credibility gap if he defects and then tries to become LotO it will make Starmer's job very easy at PMQs

To do that he would have to move to the left or the Overton window move to the right I don't rule it out but would like to know the sequence of events which delivered it

General Election 2024?

Kettering is my constituency Previously it has been an early morning declaration. Don't know why it was last time I have seen some data suggesting that it is vulnerable -

So both Swindon and Broxbourne will give a good indication on how good/bad the night will be for the Tories - That Conservative/Reform split could be the difference in winning or losing the seat -
Could be a big one for the Inverse Pool

Looking at the declaration times in 2019 the early results tend to be the Labour ones Blyth Valley declared third (approx 11.30) in 2019 and is a sub 1000 Conservative majority The next Conservative seat that declared in 2019 was North Swindon (@12.30) which has a 16000+ majority so this should be the first indication of how the Tories are really doing First really big one was Broxbourne where Charles Walker (standing down) is sitting on nearly 20,000 At 1.44am (#25) we had Mark Francois sitting on a 33000 majority Of course times will vary on the actual day depending on turnout and the size of the majority -

That is the line that is used to suppress turnout. The media often use Vox Pop to push this line. I actually hate Vox Pop on really significant issues because you do not know how they selected which ones to use and how many people they had to speak to to get them to say what they wanted to broadcast As the manifestos are published everyone should be encouraged to look at vote for policies or some other comparative forum to see what aligns with their values However if the answers come back as Conservative or Reform then you should probably check your values I have no time for Keir Starmer he is weak light blue turncoat who has nothing to say on the really big issues (Brexit and Climate) but I think a Labour Government will not be so out of touch and will try to govern for a larger percentage of the population than this lot who only seem interested in the 1% -
General Election 2024?

Looking at this data there is the argument that close fought elections will improve turnout (74 & 92) I suspect the fall between 92 and 97 was more to do with Conservatives sitting on their hands rather than voting for an alternative party and this is as dangerous for the Conservatives as it is for Labour. However with Reform now polling significantly there is someone that some of them on the right of the party might be willing to vote for. Starmer and Davey are making the play for former One Nation tories In the past I have voted Green or Lib Dem when it has looked like a Conservative walk over in my constituency but if there is a possibility of ousting the incumbent Conservative then I would stick with Labour The last election was held in December and that might have put some people off but there is a real swing against the Conservatives at the moment which might make people want to play the part in kicking them out. It is also possible that the Conservatives are getting their bad headlines in early with the hope of Labour slipping up in the next three weeks. -
I know that Doctor Who fans are often looked on as cash cows by marketing companies (I am guilty of this myself if you look at the prices of things on my ebay store) but who is going to fork out nearly £300 for a teddy bear with a long scarf...... Danbury Mint have had too much of my money in the past

Why would any celebrity bother to go on Dermot O'Leary's Radio 2 show. He is the most appalling interviewer. I am no fan of Steve Coogan but I did have some sympathy this morning when Dermot asked him if he wanted to act in straight roles. He very gently reminded Dermot of his BAFTA award. Radio 2 should sack him immediately and give someone better the job
