Just seen this. I saw him play Pericles at the RSC in David Thacker's superb version of this rarely performed play. Very sad now.

Good for things like the Deathrace and my own database which is now looking for a replacement for Ben E King.

That UK Election Thing

Count me in. I am of the opinion that there will be another General Election sooner rather than later. And if that doesn't resolve matters, we are looking at PR and parties being forced to work together. The irony is that the number crunchers think that if AV had gone through Cameron would be cruising to victory. -
Why have I got a Diana Ross song going through my head?

A friend of a friend was studying in the US in Aug 97 and his house mates woke him up to tell him about Princess Diana and kept asking him if he was OK for days afterwards as though his sister had died or something.

Apologies if I have offended anyone tonight but I am sick of reading all the rubbish that is being spewed out online about the election. However I do want to leave you with this thought if either Cameron or Milliband win a majority it will be wafer thin and probably less stable than any coalition or deal. I do not think we will have to wait until 2020 for the next election. Is anyone up for a game of by-election bingo after May 7th? -
You can say "oh it was nothing" and be entirely accurate

I know you won't believe this but I was doing an update to when I noticed you had replied! Thanks gcreptile, some hot possibilities if they survive the year I think. Most of these are on the radar and have been picked for DDP teams. Interesting to see. Don't think Angela Lansbury is going anywhere soon unless you are the Daily Mail of course.

I have not been following this closely. She is already overdue if it gets too far they will induce her. I think for the feel good factor to have an effect it would need to be Tuesday at the latest. Today is probably a day to avoid for a royal baby.

Maybe you should devise a little flag to indicate when one of your posts is to be taken as ironic or humorous. Just to help us out. -
so the wrong King was chosen for the list? B B King has had a long history of illness and was 10+ years older than Ben E King who was sufficiently out of the limelight to surprise us with his death. I still think BB has time to come good for the list.

Well while the rest of Europe celebrates May Day on 1st May in the UK we get the first Monday in May off because Thatcher hated the Socialist Holiday. Which means I have to go to a meeting in Brussels on Monday even though I should be on holiday. -
What happens if a person is not capable of making the decision and relatives could also, however unwittingly, bring pressure to bear to make people think it is better off that I am not causing all this trouble for my family. In the UK the DPP will assess each case and if the circumstances genuinely point to a mercy action then no further action will be taken. Case by case basis.

Summat wrong with that reasoning, mind. Since when was a diva in her league empathic with anyone, even their own sister? Also when has she ever needed a reason.

Goddamn, my count may be off but that's either 6 or 7 Governors, and it's only April! Unbelievable. SC But for some reason the two governors on my list (George Ryan, Pat Quinn) don't want to budge! But to be fair, Pat Quinn will live at least two more decades. I have no idea why I included him (same with Richard Daley) (Fun Fact: These are all Illinois politicans) But they are not Illinough by the looks of things.

He looks awful, like the living dead, how much longer can he carry on like this, surely if he doesn't stop which seems unlikely he will be dead by the end of the year. Gazza could be a major miss for the death list. Frankly I think he looks a lot better there than in some recent photos. Such as the ones with the gold di girlfriend on the beach - he looked really grotesque in those. I'm not sure she could be called a gold digger, Gazza isn't exactly rolling in the money these days. No, but there is a type of person who assumes that anyone who is famous must also be rich. You can look on this as an investment future newspaper interviews possibly a ghost written books, the One Show etc And that's when they go on talk shows and get asked "how did you cope with his alcoholism and abuse"?, when the question they should be asking is "why did you bother to marry him in the first place"? Tilts head to one side and looks ernestly at the interviewer (perhaps tearfully if they are talented) "He was such a wonderful person, I thought he could change and it would be enough for him that I was there for him (big sigh) but his demons were just too much for me to fight" Interviewer nods sympathetically as she calculates how quickly she can spend the cash. Aye, more truthful answers might include: 1 - He was so well soaked in alcohol I thought if I set fire to him in late September I could leave the central heating turned off until Christmas! Hmm.. does he have life insurance? By the way, there's a documentary about him coming out this summer, featuring him getting called "the special one" by the special one. And Wayne Rooney calls him the most exciting english player. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3062415/Jose-Mourinho-Wayne-Rooney-Gary-Lineker-lead-tributes-Paul-Gascoigne-new-documentary-charting-life-England-great.html there's a documentary about him coming out I didn't realise he was gay......

I'd like to add that Labour have hardly ever had to rely on Scottish seats to win an election with a majority. And I'd like to think that some of our friends across the islands would like Labour to have a little more gumption and distinctiveness to their campaign, rather than looking like the substitutes for the current incumbents without really changing very much. On the performances tonight, Miliband will not be PM on what he says, the Lib Dems are irrelevant as they can't do a deal with a Tory red line Europe referendum or with Labour who have ruled out deals. Which kind of leaves what I've always believed but dare not - Conservative and UKIP governance on a minority basis with occasional support from DUP. Which will inevitably lead to a constitutional crisis and political reform - it's 1815 -1832 all over again. I think that there is some wilfull misrepresentation of what Ed Miliband said last night. He said no deals which means he will try to present a Queen's speech based on a Labour manifesto (assuming he has the most seats) and hopes that the SNP will vote for it with the alternative being a Conservative government. I am very worried about the polls because I think that there might be a lot of embarressed tories who won't say to a pollster they will vote Tory but in the privacy of the Polling Station they will. 1992 all over again. Only worse. -

He was on the One Show last night. Only watched for about 30 seconds but seemed in good spirits. I think leaving him off this year was the right decision

Fun fact the name of the Michelin man is Bibendum

Thank you, I appreciate the gesture. I'm not so certain the Dutch should be congratulated with all this. I know my opinion is a minority one, but as far as I'm concerned we'd rid ourselves of the monarchy. Has this ever been a serious option. No-one in the UK seems to be up for the debate and the republicans have appalling timing.
