The man had an incredible work ethic often two Discworld books a year plus other each supported with an intensive signing tour. Later on you could only order signed copies from the specialist website but as a result we have many signed first editions. I still have Dodger & Raising Steam to read along with The Long Earth trilogy.

**checking Baskin's name off my list of 'famous theater managers in Estonia'**SC The guy was absolute legend in Estonia. Everybody knew him. You don't need to be sarcastic because you don't know anybody outside your little island. I understand the sentiment but if I am correct SC dwells in that Little Island that is North America.

What Do You Think Of The 2015 Death List?

To be fair that seemed like quite a consensus view. He didn't make the DDP drop forty. If they had been fair to me they'd have read my fucking suggestions. What are you doing up at this hour anyway dad? What are you talking about it is 11am in the morning (Admittedly I am in Vietnam) I don't see Terry Pratchett in your shadow list.

    Deathrace 2015

D'ya know what, that's a great idea. How about we invite the various champions: DDP, HPDP, Deathrace etc. into a thread next year where five talented topplers are lined up and the Champions League involves the 2015 winners competing to pick the closest dates of 2016 death for these people, or summat. And qualification for this dead pool of dead pools is limited only to outright winners of existing competitions. That's not fair, I'll NEVER get to play! You could get in via the cup . Only we will be calling it the urn.

He gave the impression that he was coping. He gave interviews and was still working. Like Shaun of the Dead said I thought he had a couple of years yet. Whilst I am not on the committee I was one advocating dropping him. I am not sorry but with Nimoy and Simon also going in quick succession are we facing the nerd apocolypse. Who next Stan Lee? Tom Baker? George Lucas?

He had the tweet already written and as he collapsed to the ground, his head hit the "send" button. Obviously a big miss for the list. I wasn't aware that his health was bad enough to lead to such an early death. "Early onset-Alzheimers" can't be that bad alone, or can it? I've never read one of his books, but always wanted to. I've never known where to start... It doesn't really matter but the earlier ones tend to be better. Mort is often a good place. The Colour of Magic isn't unless you are obsessive about reading them in order. Wyrd Sisters is ano her good starting point. My fav is Masquerade. This one has really knocked the breath out of me.

Steve Strange funeral held in South Wales The BBC report contains some good celebrity watching: if that is Boy George at the front he looks far healthier than he should. However it also contains a photograph of the printed guest list. I hope when it comes to 2016 noone uses that as their blueprint for a DDP team.

    Curse Of The Eurovision

Well I see it has already received some rave reviews in the British press. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/eurovision/11457228/Eurovision-2015-Electro-Velvet-will-ensure-we-dont-win.html But staying on topic, it's worth noting that the female part of the duo, Bianca (26) is living with cystic fibrosis, an incurable, hereditary disease that reduces lifespans by 20+ years with large variance. Some people with the condition may die in their twenties (albeit this is now rare), so she could make a weak but potentially lucrative DDP candidate (low likelihood of dying, but many points if she dies). On a related note, the Finnish contestants are middle aged punk rockers "with learning disabilities". One of them looks as if he had a hereditary genetic defect. Of course, even IF... an obit in the UK would be in doubt. http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2015/feb/27/finnish-punk-band-take-punt-eurovision-title Is there any Deathlist potential behind the sudden withdrawal of the winner of the German preliminary competition? I was wondering about that, poor lad going from Voice of Germany 2013 to Ideas and Possibilities for 2016. Immortality of sorts.. I had to think about him (in our context) as well. He is a bit of a weirdo compared to the clichés that usually win casting shows. He likes to cancel concerts if he feels his artistry compromised. There are rumours that he molested a female fan during a concert. He just canceled some other concerts but my interest in him is already waning. Apparently, he's been silent on social media for a couple of days, so maybe he's having a bit of a breakdown at the moment, but he does not have any fatal illness as far as we know. Since the last post Andreas Kümmert has posted to Facebook basically giving a vague reason for dropping out of Eurovision as being he didn't know what he would achieve by participating. Mental health probably should be questioned though cynically I wonder whether it's simply a stunt to improve his public profile. Anyway, he has a very nasty beard so I'm quite pleased he's not representing Germany. The less beards the better (unless they're neat and tidy a la Conchita Wurst). Incidentally, is the UK entry for 2015 relevant to this thread seeing as it will die a painful death? Without thinking about it I can recall two worse entries and that doesn't even include Jemini. I think the quality of the song has very little to do with the UK's poor performance. Do tell! Scooch - Flying the Flag (2007) and the awful rap song about school days I can't even remember the artist. (Edit: I looked it up Teenage Life by Daz Sampson, at least it didn't seem to do his career any harm) The UK has been left behind by Eurovision. The introduction of the semi-finals and the eastward expansion seems to conspire against us. It was pretty awful watching Bonnie Tyler and Englebert Humpandink be humiliated with single point finishes but the year Jemini got zero (yes they were awful) but we also invaded Iraq I do not think we were very popular in Europe as a whole and our current "If we don't get what we want we will take our ball away" attitude doesn't make us feel part of the fold.

    That UK Election Thing

The trouble is that at the moment the potential scenarios playing out in the opinion polls suggest that because of the collapse in the LD vote a two party coalition will not reach the magic number. Kenneth Baker's Government of National Unity might be the only stable option. Rematch in 2017.

What Do You Think Of The 2015 Death List?

The two hits we have had has put us back on track. Still below the 12 hits line but we are running ahead of 2014. We are in almost exactly the same place we were in 2003 and that was one of the top 2 years. I don't think we have to concentrate on the low hanging fruit because we got a few surprises last year like P D James. I will come back with my Top Ten when I have had chance to think about it.

Hey, you guys are the ones who have spent a whole century and more trying to make it illegal to be posh...... check yourself before you wreck your self maybe? This is cultural not political. No-one wants to see Bertie Wooster wearing a back to front baseball cap. And on the day when ITV BBC3 Channel 4 Channel 5 Netflix HBO and BBC in a joint production make such a thing a reality, I'm sure if you and Phantom and the like show up outside their studio waving your arms and worriedly explaining "uhh no, uh I think you uh missed the point, uh it wasn't supposed to be a cultural thing, it was just supposed......." they will say "oh, right sorry!" and cease immediately or something.. I do not have a problem with people being posh. I realise that people can't help where they were born or how they were raised. What I don't like to see if privilage denying opportunity to people who may be more talented. Lady Penelope was a bloody puppet the point I was trying to make is that she does not exist in the real world and should not be made to. There again I imagine I am not the target audience and those that are will know no better. I think the target audience is those that watched the original show and an attempt to bring it into the 21st century by using CGI. Personally I think the new format ruins it, much in the same way that they did with shows like Captain Pugwash. There was new Captain Pugwash? The Horror

    Zsa Zsa Gabor

It's possible Zsa Zsa is dead as like i said in my previous post i wouldn't put anything past Von Anhalt but i do think she is still being kept alive as in December Francesca just before her own death released a photo of her with Zsa Zsa to radar online and also haven't the courts said the "Prince" and Zsa Zsa can live in there house until she dies. Most crucially the real Owners of the house who inherit it once Zsa Zsa dies pay the "Prince" about £300,000 a year to look after her surely they will get some sort of proof she is still alive as surely they wouldn't pay someone all that money every year unless they knew for certain that she was still with us. There's a logic to your post above but some people are so unfeasibly wealthy the rest of us simply don't get it. I saw a discussion on BBC News over the weekend about the £35 million Sarah Brightman had on hand to pay for her own space voyage. The discussion also raised the point that she'd once bought an apartment in New York and simply forgotten about it popped into her mind whilst she was having coffee with a friend. I mean, every once in a while I'm having a drink with a mate and I'm reminded I own a copy of a particular album, but, a fucking New York apartment!? I don't mean too be rude but what has Sarah Brightman ever done to 'earn' that sort of money. If the answer is have sex with Andrew Lloyd-Webber then she is entitled to every penny.

Twitter. Why are people so vile and unpleasent. I posted a response to someone who had overheard some Daily Mail readers discussing immigrants and the like, akin to the post I made in That Election Thing thread. Whereas here I got a Like. On Twitter it seems like an excuse to spout vile nonsense unconnected with what I had posted but just based on what they believe my opinions are from the information on available on Twitter. Do they cruise round the site looking for a fight? People should be nicer.
