That UK Election Thing
Bibliogryphon replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
On PM yesterday a Conservative made an interesting point that when Tony Blair didn't want a debate in 2001 the broadcasters just walked away. However, Cameron did argue for the debates to take place in 2010 so he looks a little hypocritical. -
Before I start I want to point out that I am not being Luddite about the whole remake of Thunderbirds. I frankly couldn't care less. However there are some things you do need to get right LADY PENELOPE. She should be classy and aloof and be able to convey the impression with one look that she is out of your league, even if you are a billionaire athelete with a PhD and a Knighthood. She should NOT look like a pissed off secretary

Death Anniversary Thread

He failed his saving throw. Gary is part of the reason I am here. Only one person at my work had heard of him. Well..... shall we have a dice-throw to decide whether that's a good thing or not? Since the first place I saw/heard of him was his guest appearance on Futurama, he always reminds me of the irksome fact that I used to watch it, I'm probably gonna have to give him the thumbs down overall =/ I will cast the first level spell Charm Person bu apparently Dr Z is not affected by Charm spells. For all his faults Gary is important to a good number of people. I never watched Futurama. -
Not a good week for Star Trek as Harve Bennett dies

Indeed! It's a picture with a "John Blaine" who has also written something related on his facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153157465388781 Either it's really the end or Simon is thinking about stopping the treatment or even assisted suicide. Some excellent detective work mates! SC If they are right....

let me guess, you've not heard of them so they're "dull suggestions" Actually the funny thing is, I can admit I got mildly carried away by bashing some people mentioned here because I forgot this is for just general suggestions, not suggestions for the front page of DL. And yes actually I did know he was the director of some old Bond movie..... But that doesn't stop it being dull, and actually I don't think he's at all guaranteed to get a qualifying obit for the DDP either. Why should I have heard of him? I can remember tons of movie "facts", but remembering which generic nobody directed which old Bond film is a pursuit probably too lame even for people who think Richard Osman appearing on Football Focus to give his tips for the weekend's fixtures is a "telly highlight of the year". And anybody could have directed Alfie too, movies like that aren't about the director......... At lot of journalists are massive nerds and if a Doctor Who actor or a Bond director dies it is very easy copy they could write in their sleep. Gilbert will obit big time.

A colleague of mine said he received an e-mail from Paddy Hopkirk last week.

That UK Election Thing

The SNP are going to have to play this one carefully. They should look at the current Lib Dem poll ratings and see the potential pitfalls. Of course those people voting SNP probably voted Labour last time so the are getting Socialism-max rather than Socialism-lite under EM. Totally agree about the "careful" SNP, but Salmond will be on site after being elected to Westminster, and he's way more savvy than Thick Clegg. The one mistake they won't make is signing up to a binding agreement to be led by Ed. Even that could turn sour for the SNP. If Westmister turns into the Salmond show Nicola Sturgeon could feel that she has been sidelined and fobbed off. Internal fighting could be bitter. -
Unfortunately The Prisoner was never broadcast on Dutch TV. I know it has legendary status. I'll see if utube have it. Whisper it very quietly Overrated pretentious twaddle...

Walter Koenig is probably the best bet because he has already had two heart attacks. Pity because I really like him especially in Babylon 5

Was it the full face of the alien in the closing credits? Actually, I just happened to turn it on during a scene where somebody was beheading someone. I am still trying to work out which episode featured a beheading (I am by no means a Trek expert. I am mostly familiar with the films.) RadGuy or Bibliogryphon, any idea what the episode was called? Bread and Circuses.? I think that was the only episode I've ever watched of Star Trek, but to be honest I don't even remember there being a beheading in it. I don't think that wasn't the same episode ... I was very small also, so I don't really remember if it was a beheading or being stabbed some other part of the body, but it scared the crap out of me! I don't remember anything particularly graphic in the orignial series but it doesn't mean that Star Trek was not capable of being controversal the first inter-racial kiss on US TV was on Star Trek.

Going topical again for Martin Crowe during the Cricket World Cup

2022, watching the World Cup final That close to Christmas?

I will await official confirmation but 4 people get points for Leonard Nimoy and I think this puts me in fourth place.

Even Radio 4 suggested that he might die in prison. Pick a year between now and 2023.

I don't want to see this topic on top again until the end of April. Whoops

Prediction or premonition? or what he observed in his time travel experiment.

Very sad to see him go. But it doesn't stop me claiming my Deathrace points and updating my shadow list. He was the only member of the Star Trek cast of the Pilot episode that made it to the main show and that was because Roddenberry held out for him against the studio.

Although it makes me unhappy to say this I think 2016 might be a good time to start thinking about Tom Baker. Former alcoholic, beginning to look a little doddery it would be a massive day if he were to go and we would not want to miss our share of it. He might even appreciate the 'honour'

The Cricket World Cup is upon us. If this was a movie then there are two possible alternative ending: 1. MC dies just before a crunch NZ match and his team are inspired to win in his memory 2. NZ get to the final and win allowing MC to die happy the following day. But, as we live in real life he will proably still be here in September and India will win the World Cup.
