Porter Bibb, biographer of Ted Turner, who "speaks for him" according to a sensationalist Daily Mail article, says that Ted Turner might just commit suicide like Robin Williams with his father's silver gun, that his father already used to kill himself: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10535343/Discovery-shareholder-John-Malone-speaks-Ted-Turner-says-CNN-stick-news.html Other bit of information: "His brain is starting to go. (...) If he loses his brain, I'm sure that he will follow Robin Williams."

Next prediction after the above turned out to be correct: These puppet states will now form armies and try to expand their territories. Putin will claim that it's okay because these are not Russian troops. But I wonder if a real frontline will be established, a real eastern front of Ukraine vs. "separatists". I think Russia does not want such a front and might make use of their Belarussian troops and have them enter Ukraine from the north to mess up Ukrainian plans. Oh, now that I think about it, I guess Lukashenko was promised some Ukranian territory, Chernobyl perhaps? Will the Ukrainian army get foreign support?

Putin is half-delusional in his speech, "Lenin created Ukraine, so if you Ukranians don't like communism, you are no longer Ukraine and belong to Russia" etc... Well, I still remember reading Francis Fukuyama's "Clash of Cultures" (oh, those were the days...). His best prediction was that the Ukraine would basically split in two parts, based on the map above. Though the map actually shows that the majority-Russian area is only about 20% of the country. But yeah, West Ukraine once belonged to the Habsburg empire and is thoroughly European, East Ukraine is culturally different. (Fukuyama's other predictions were not that successful. He predicted that Japan would want to join China's sphere of influence, for example.)

If I had to guess, this will lead to a tabula rasa situation. The old agreements are dead. NATO will expand and include a westernized Ukraine. Finland will also join. There will be very clear borders, but Russia will collapse in the mid-future, unless they are willing to get under some kind of Chinese bailout umbrella.

Yeah, breaking news here in Germany. Putin told chancellor Scholz of the decision. So yeah, immediately after the Olympic Games. I guess troops will move in tonight. They will be the separatists (Russian operatives) who left yesterday, probably to get equipped. Putin will claim to have kept his word, because Luhansk and Donetsk are not part of Ukraine, according to his own definition.
-
Yes, I guess Russia wanted the audience of a "live" coverage to spread the arguments. The "decision" will come later today though. Hottest take I've seen so far comes, not totally surprising, from "Dilbert" creator Scott Adams:

I'm so distracted by the Russian Security Council meeting right now. I think they're going to recognize the "Luhansk" and "Donezk people's Republic" in 30 minutes. Shit will hit the fan.

I mean, one doesn't exactly rule out the other. Could be an intentional drug overdose, the powder was already lying there.

:cough: ...drug overdose...

Do you think he's going to make it into March? Well, here's a picture:
-
Things are heating up right now. Obviously, Russia didn't attack last wednesday as foretold by the USA, BUT..... the way things are going now, it's going to happen soon. Yes, I believe it now. I'm thinking of right after the Olympics (a Russian gesture to China not to mess with their games). And by right after, I mean the minute it's over.

The clubhouse wasn't really a golf player, should it even be in this thread? It was a centenarian however...

Gail Halvorsen would be hit no. 7 for me. I should have picked Carmen Herrera though. I think she was a sub either this year or last year for me.

This is almost a day of national mourning in Germany, once the word gets out.

Yes. I have noticed his silence, too. Could be COVID, maybe he has a co-morbidity. Or well, could be his age and inevitably worsening health.

Bappi Lahiri, "legendary" film composer and singer known for wearing gold chains, dies at 69 from COVID: https://www.businesstoday.in/trending/entertainment/story/bappi-lahiri-passes-away-at-69-in-mumbai-hospital-322733-2022-02-16 I immediately recognized the name from my own past Cup searches. He must have been in poor health for a while.
