Dead Edward Kennedy/Curse of the Kennedys
gcreptile replied to DevonDeathTrip's topic in DeathList Forum
I posted it somewhere else....but this was the thread I was looking for... -
So, before I'll be gone for a week, have an update. The biggest name in this update, especially in terms of who many players picked him, was Labour politician Frank Field. Because he survived so long, he might not have been a favourite DDP pick, but he definitely was someone for your top 50 lists. Another name, as mentioned above, was american actor Terry Carter, mostly remembered for his Battlestar Galactica appearance. Coincidentally, I now realize that I watched him about a month ago in blaxploitation classic Foxy Brown as Pam Grier's sidekick. TorvaMessor gets another fascinating unique hit. Next hit, as I can recall by memory, is cancer awareness raiser Kris Hallenga. Yes, her cancer made her famous, but she eclipsed the narrow definition of cancer celebrity with tons of TV appearances, her own blog in The Sun, and the charity she founded. When the British overlords hand out MBEs and OBEs, I can be sure in accepting that the person has had a "wider impact on society". And the DDP committee thinks the same. Two players picked her, Cpt. Chorizo and me, making her my joker. Fourth hit in this update is Welsh football legend Terry Medwin. A player in the 1958 World Cup, he also won a few english trophies with Tottenham. He was a unique hit for Yorkshire Banker. Next one is prominent author Paul Auster, a hit for three players. He had quite the distinguished career that only missed out on the Nobel Prize. But the highlights stretch from the New York Trilogy in the mid 80s to monumental 4 3 2 1 in 2017. Another dead author, and another hit, is British crime writer CJ Sansom. A somewhat bigger deadpooling name two years ago, he was now a unique hit for Toast, congratulations! That seems to conclude the update. Kris Hallenga pushes the two teams she was on to the top. And while I am at 1st now, Cpt. Chorizo still has an unused joker in Rob Burrow. Edit: I now realize that msc and Cpt. Chorizo also have a non-obit in Amy Ettinger. She has received a Washington Post obit but that doesn't count here. I need a QO for her in the ABC pool, but it doesn't seem to be happening. Rank Team Score 1 gcreptile 776 2 Cpt. Like, in the voting booth? -
Thank you all! And thanks a lot Cpt. for hosting! I guess Kirsty Smitten was the winning pick. Otherwise, the team didn't exactly feel like a winning one in the end, with the nr. 1,7 and 8 not dying. Hell, even Steve McMichael is STILL alive. But I guess I have to be glad I didn't put him or Black Bart Harris higher. Carter was a shared no. 1 by almost everybody anyway. A couple of lucky survivors worked in my favour, MariNisia had James Whale at 1st (Book had him at 6th, Perhaps at 14th)., so... thank you, too, James Whale?

Theo Burrell will be abseiling for charity soon: https://www.thesun.co.uk/tv/27790247/antiques-roadshow-terminal-cancer-update-theo-burrell/ Her regular scans have shown no cancer regrowth so far.

Maybe I missed it, but we never posted the cancer diagnosis of actress Olivia Williams: https://www.vogue.co.uk/arts-and-lifestyle/article/olivia-williams-pancreatic-cancer https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olivia_Williams Well, she recently revealed that it's "rare" pancreatic cancer that she still has, and that is being managed (maybe the neuroendocrine variant?): https://uk.news.yahoo.com/olivia-williams-cancer-not-cured-060000013.html Edit: Ok, Wikipedia says it's a VIPoma, i.e. yes, an endocrine cancer.

Current presidential candidate RFK Jr. was once thought to have a brain tumour, right when Ted Kennedy was dying from it, but on further inspection, it was a dead parasite: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/08/us/rfk-jr-brain-health-memory-loss.html

Never really listened to the song before, didn't know it was a Pet Shop Boys rip off, especially It's a Sin.

It does look like those of you who submitted their teams with a warning that there weren't many super good picks around were right.... Starting on friday, I will have another absence, this time for a whole week. But it will not interfere with any deadlines. If you ask me, we can expect 2-3 hits in that time.

My first sub Kris Hallenga died just before entering the team. I'd like to nominate author Caleb Carr now.

Sounds like two of my personal favourites, Croatia and Ireland have quite the bit of momentum. Maybe I'm too mainstream?

She is probably cancer-free but the doctors don't want to call it that at this moment: https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/princess-beatrice-update-sarah-ferguson-cancer-battle/

If allowed, Kris Hallenga is a hit here: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/breaking-coppafeel-founder-kris-hallenga-32729448

I was wondering why she wasn't on more teams after that living funeral...but I'll take it. Probably because she lasted so long, much longer than everybody thought. Good for her, but still too early though. She probably was the last living example of the OG cancer celebrities.

Why was there the narrative that it might be close? -
Hmhm, so many potential candidates, and they always appear to me too late. Anyway, murderer Victor Farrant has terminal cancer. Compassionate release is being considered: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c51np571yeno https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Farrant

Naresh Goyal, Indian businessman and founder of Jet Airways has cancer, and his wife, too: https://www.indiatoday.in/law/story/jet-airways-founder-naresh-goyal-wife-anita-goyal-months-to-live-lost-all-will-to-live-lawyer-harish-salve-interim-medical-bail-2534850-2024-05-03 Anita Goyal is British-born, an MBE, as author/philantropist and such: https://anitagoyal.com/ There is some legal drama in the background though, so it might be a little less dramatic than it certainly sounds.

So this Guardian piece about David Gale, Julian Clary's now dead drama teacher, mentions that Julian Clary is arranging the care for his mother Brenda McDonald: https://www.theguardian.com/film/article/2024/may/03/six-dogs-25000-gifts-and-incontinence-improv-behind-the-scenes-on-an-actors-dramatic-exit I .. think... she's this Brenda McDonald (born in Kent): https://riverdale.fandom.com/de/wiki/Brenda_McDonald?mobile-app=true&theme=wiki And if so, she has a couple of acting credits: https://www.themoviedb.org/person/61168-brenda-mcdonald -
He can choose to not use them, especially if this time is not a good time to be alive.

Russians enter US base in Niger: https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/russian-troops-enter-base-housing-us-military-niger-us-official-says-2024-05-02/ Niger had decided to switch allegiance. We're pretty much back to the 1970s, cold wars, proxy wars, two blocks fighting for countries. It still hasnt quite settled in that this is what Russia is doing, but that they are mostly running on empty. But they can succeed here and there because the West isn't quite willing to take up the fight.
