Only Famous For Being Ill And Dying

A Shameless pick. Will there be an obit tomorrow? I would think so, because the Daily Mail was ON THE CASE, but if not, the prospects of Shameless are almost at an end, I would say.

    Derby Dead Pool 2016

Link isn't working afaik. No news reports of her death? Unfortunately not. http://www.ok-trauer.de/file_tmp/image_tmp/8/ea9739f7-9385-4105-9601-90b85efc974a.jpg She is now dead for about 10 days... Hmm, I didn't know her. Did any other german member know her?

    Prince

Hmm, dunno - diet has been rumoured to be a disaster for years and eating disorders might explain his ability to stay so thin. But I could see him getting old and highly cranky like Miles Davis Though Davis also got only 65 years old, which, admittedly, is not bad for a classic Jazz giant. And Davis was a wreck in the mid 70s. I bet Roger Waters will get really old and REALLY cranky.

    Read Any Good Books Lately?

If you want a real classic, try; The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling, by Henry Fielding. Thanks, I might actually try it some day. As a non-native english speaker, my reading of english classics barely touches the surface. Shakespeare, yes, Dickens, the Bronte sisters, Jane Austen and Ernest Hemingway and the like, but not much beyond, as of now.

Yes, I think he won't get old. Either a sex accident, or drugs or whatever... a bit like Michael Jackson.

    Read Any Good Books Lately?

I finally finished Moby Dick after 2 months of reading a couple of pages during each subway ride to and from work. It was beautifully written, but there was a bit too much filler about the biology of whales, the history of whale hunting, how to extract oil out of a whale, and so on... In the end, the book wasn't quite what I expected, because the meat of the story is not that much. Now I'm rushing through Robinson Crusoe. I thought it was fitting to read another maritime classic.

    Rotten Dead Pool

My team expired yesterday with 5 hits. I expected a little more, the usual suspects survived. Although this is probably a bad time to start, this is my new team: 1. King Michael of Romania 2. Vera Caslavska 3. Peter Esterhazy 4. Zsa Zsa Gabor 5. Billy Graham 6. Luke Halpin 7. Barys Kit 8. John Rigas 9. Sumner Redstone 10. Bernie Worrell Replacements will be posted here as well. Replaced Peter Esterhazy with Dilip Kumar.

    Howard Marks

Really quite a miss. Especially, since the committee chose Tommy Chong instead. I thought I was being clever by putting him at the end of my Hartlepool Deadlypool team, but he died die rather soon in the end.

    Derby Dead Pool 2016

I was really getting worried about the f's. I can now finally ask, who the fuck is Eddie Felgate? We can all ask that! I'm thinking it maybe a spelling issue but I've tried a few variations but no-one stands out... As its a (theme?) team of bloody old people, does he mean Eddie Filgate, the centenarian Fiana Fail backbencher? Maybe someone who goes by the name Eddie Fellate?

    Shaun`s Death By Numbers 2016I

This is the contest where I really have to abandon my "use every name in just one competition" rule. It's probably impossible to go for the win here with "second" choices. I should have done it like DDT and put some of my 41 hits across all teams also in this one here.

    The Hartlepool Deadlypool

My pick Hendrijke Fitz, long-time cast member of Germany's most popular medical drama soap opera, has died at 54: http://www.spiegel.de/kultur/tv/hendrikje-fitz-in-aller-freundschaft-star-ist-tot-a-1086096.html This is a SPIEGEL Online link. It was good enough for Edward Snowden to send his leaks to so I guess it's a credible source of international news. Also available, the obit from the german newspaper that broke the Panana Papers story, the Süddeutsche Zeitung: http://www.sueddeutsche.de/news/wirtschaft/medien-nach-krebstod-trauer-um-hendrikje-fitz-dpa.urn-newsml-dpa-com-20090101-160408-99-505036

    The dead of 2016

In my longlist, I have a section specifically for relatively obscure, but guaranteed to obit British people, which I called "the Telegraph" section, because they will all get an obit in the Telegraph. I briefly thought about fielding a Theme Team with them. Rachel Johnson was among these people. A missed chance, just like Leslie Thornton (obscure sculptor who got a Telegraph obit), Jeremy Morse, Asa Briggs, and Eric Winkle Brown. Maybe one of the Bletchley Girls is next, or Bridget Riley.
