So, How's Your 2017 Shortlist Looking?
gcreptile replied to msc's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
My move cost me two months of research time. I have three DDP teams ready (but didn't get to replace Craig Sager yet) but none for the other competitions. Last year, I had my first draft ready in August (DDP, HPDP, Deathrace, Hare's, Shaun's death by numbers). This year, it was impossible. I will also start to make multiple use of names. I couldn't do it the other way this time. However, beginning on Monday I'm off work for a week, so time enough to do something. -
Is this thread an attempt to get him into the Drop 40 to make him a valuable joker?

Shameless pick Craig Lyons now has a documentary out: He also gets visits from Liverpool player Lucas Leiva: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/liverpool-midfielder-lucas-leiva-leaves-11877085 Dead per this tweet. No obits yet, qualifying or otherwise. (though it's only been a day, so there'll probably be some local press coverage in due time) He gave a good fight, indeed. He lasted far longer than one could have expected. Now I'm waiting for an article on the phenomenon of cancer celebrities ("2016, the year of terminal illness fame"), mentioning Lyons, Angela Sykes, Jack Wells, Sarah Swindells, Helen Hutchinson, and Mark Nurthen, to give me the win in the main team competition. More realistically, Lisa Brown most likely dies in the next few days, giving Shameless the record of most non-obiting people (I think I'm tied, right now?). I think the theme Team competition will be much harder next time and the typical Shameless picks will increase in number (I see, Spade is looking for a joker among them). At the same time, I don't see the same "quality" and quantity as last year. I think I'll have to move the G. Monty Brinsons of 2017 into Shameless. I think I have a few names to spare. Plus, cancer celebrities apparently don't obit post-April for DDP purposes. I think one has to get a little lucky in picking the right names. I would guess a team like Shameless still couldn't win it all. I missed some names though, I didn't know about Hassan Asif and DDT's corresponding pick. I had Jade Patemam and Sonny Lang on my mind. I could have moved Linda Horan, Rowena Kincaid and Monty Brinson into Shameless. That would have made it close - but those are too many ifs.

Another one for future editions: Sheriff Joe Arpaio, illegal immigrant hunter nr. 1, and a deep scholar of Obama's birth certificate. He's 84 years old, set to retire soon, and his wife has stomach cancer.

With her playing one of the leading roles in a movie that won 4 Academy Awards, I would think that she could get a DDP obit. My guess: A QO in the Guardian's theatre pages.

Someone for future Death List editions: legendary jewel thief Doris Payne, 86, and still in the business: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/dec/14/jewel-thief-doris-payne-arrested-atlanta-diamond-necklace

I forgot where it was but someone mentioned that Robert and Peter Vaughan had died, so a third Vaughan will die soon. Could it be Hawaiian music "legend" Palani Vaughan? http://www.staradvertiser.com/2016/12/08/breaking-news/hawaiian-music-legend-palani-vaughan-dies/ Was he more or less famous than the other Hawaiian music legend Jimmy Borges?

Oh wow, I did!

Hmm... the date of birth has to be known for the DDP. What if Zsa Zsa Gabor's obits mention her various possible birth dates?

Congratulations, Death Impends!

Former Senator of North Carolina Kay Hagan in intensive care, no specifics given: http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/article120136098.html

Uh, well then replace AA Gill with Piers Sellers, though I don't think that he's a typical Death List pick.
-
That was quick! It doesn't really make a difference in deadpooling though... He would have been picked by everyone.

My entry: The list I posted in the "Who should be on the Death List in 2017" thread. But John Glenn replaced by Robert Mugabe.

Well, she'll be on 20-30 teams now! Does anyone know her last name? Is it the same one? -
Indeed, very sad. But I guess the writing was on the wall since yesterday.

Craig Venter, famous in the 90s for building the team that first completely mapped the human genome, has "high-grade" prostate cancer: http://www.xconomy.com/san-francisco/2016/12/08/craig-venter-used-own-posh-health-clinic-to-diagnose-his-cancer/#

Joey Feek being an example of someone clearly only known by 99% of those who picked her for being ill, but had some fame to her name. Shameless proved why going for these picks isn't the most sensible route to the title, and the most contentious picks have been outlawed by OoO and TMIB already. I had the feeling that the media coverage of these people, or to be more precise, coverage of their death, notably declined after the deaths of Joey Feek and Charlotte Eades. These two cases were a bit too much, I guess.
