Article that describes the general situation with Mugabe, his wife who, in passing, reminds people that he will be gone soon, and how the other members of Mugabe's party can't wait to replace him: http://www.newsdzezimbabwe.co.uk/2015/09/new-war-as-frail-mugabe-clings-on.html

Hospitalized again: http://www.spiegel.de/politik/deutschland/gefaessverschluss-helmut-schmidt-auf-der-intensivstation-a-1050976.html(link in german) He has, and I hope I translate it correctly, a vascular occlusion in the right leg. Friends say, this condition is not immediately life-threatening, but it doesn't look good. The doctors say that surgery would be difficult, because his arteries are not in the best shape anymore. Honestly, it sounds as if he might go down the Zsa Zsa-road: the leg might have to be removed. And apparently, his formerly rock-solid constitution is now beginning to die away. Edit: Reading some more, they'll decide on surgery tomorrow. The problem is that his old age makes surgery complicated, because organs might be cut off from blood support. I also wonder if his chain-smoking plays a role here.

Ah, back from a holiday... When I heard the news of Sacks' death I thought I might have picked him out of laziness after running out of names, but I didn't because I kind of wanted him to stay alive for 2016 so I could pick him then - which was an illogical decision anyway because IF he had survived the year, everyone and their dog would have picked him, too, so point-wise there was no real relative benefit in it. Ah, stupid me... Edit: The same kind of thinking will rob me of points for Howard Marks, of course.

and has now died. Wow, and just 66 years old. Apparently, some people are actually able to die of shame.

Semi-famous jewish dissident and refusenik (?) Marc Dymshits is dead at 88: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/199987 I didn't know what a refusenik was, so refusenik Dymshits confused me a little. And did he refuse anything, I don't know...

Long-serving Aberdeenshire councillor Joanna Strathdee dies of cancer: http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-34039686 Only now I'm beginning to realize the usefulness of the BBC pages. I used to regularly check 'only' the Guardian, the Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror. I didn't realize that the BBC site actually has tons of content.

Soviet dissident Vladimir Bukovsky is somewhere in this thread and here is an update: http://www.theguardian.com/law/2015/aug/24/soviet-dissident-sues-crown-prosecution-service-alleging-libel He sues the crown prosecution service for libel (child pornography). He returned to his home last week after spending four months in a german hospital after major heart surgery. He's also a prominent opponent of Vladimir Putin, having run against him in 2008 and being involved in the Litvinenko trial.

sad to hear - one of my abiding memories of Indietracks 2013 was watching Camera Obscura after a biblical downpour forced them to move the gig from the main outdoor stage to the engine shed. Not a good year to camp! As a regular DDP player, it would be hypocritical of me to tut-tut. But I know Carey and this is desperately sad, and however much I compartmentalise, when things get this close to home the whole deadpool notion loses its appeal. That's the problem... death doesn't spare your personal friends (or yourself).

Ah, something else. If the committee would like to attract a new mascot, they might want to start picking George R. R. Martin. I mean, his fans have been afraid of his sudden death for a couple of years already. Edit: About Lynne Stewart, I don't know. Prisoners (and their lawyers) aren't very reliable about their health. There are tons of currently or recently imprisoned teasers, like Hadzic, Seselj, Derby-Lewis, Scott Thorson, still alive.

I think Jimmy Carter will get some kind of record for being the most picked person in deadpooling ever. Also, I think the Deathlist should include Hugh Hefner next year. He's interesting enough and about to turn 90. He's sort of the type the committee goes for.

Another voice for a British actors thread. I mean, it isn't Hollywood, but still the second-most important western national film scene. Bollywood also has its own thread, after all. In general, I would only create single-people threads for those who actually have the potential to generate news. Not sure if Charlotte Rae is in that category. Many old people, while valuable for deadpooling, have retreated from the public eye, so a thread for them is not going to create much discussion.
