Some more official news, again in german, I'm afraid: http://www.spiegel.de/politik/deutschland/helmut-kohl-gesundheitszustand-ernst-a-1043841.html They say he is "responsive but in a serious state." "After the first operation, successive medical treatment was necessary."

Today's day in court was cancelled because of the "bad state of health" of Mr. Groening: http://www.tagesspiegel.de/politik/prozesstag-im-auschwitz-verfahren-vorzeitig-beendet-oskar-groening-in-schlechtem-gesundheitszustand/11737296.html(link in german, but I bet english articles will appear, since the trial has received a fair bit of attention abroad.) Judges are considering their verdict: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3152324/Prosecutors-demand-3-year-prison-sentence-bookkeeper-Auschwitz-Oskar-Groening-trial-death-300-000-Jews-judges-consider-verdict.html Verdict has fallen: sentenced to 4 years in prison http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-33533264 So, most major news agencies will report his death in jail automatically and he's old and frail. Low DDP points, granted, but HPDP and Deathrace gold, maybe. German reports on the case often had a subtle desire to see the man falling apart from guilt, noticing when he cried, admitting guilt and so on... I certainly wouldn't be surprised if he died rather quickly.

Very interesting case. Chess can be a treacherous thing to the mind.

Hans Barlach, german co-owner of the Suhrkamp Verlag, probably Germany's most prominent publisher, is dead at 59 of pneunomia: http://www.spiegel.de/kultur/literatur/suhrkamp-aktionaer-hans-barlach-ist-tot-a-1043762.html (link in german) He was one side of a highly publicized battle for the control of the Suhrkamp Verlag in the past 2 years. He lost the battle and was then excluded from the company decisions.

Last weekend, a prominent german online site accidentally declared him dead for two minutes: http://www.gala.de/stars/news/starfeed/falschmeldung-helmut-kohl-angeblich-gestorben_1283204.html(link in german) In more relevant news, he has been transferred from intensive care to the cardiology station: http://www.focus.de/politik/deutschland/klinik-aufenthalt-seit-zehn-wochen-sorge-um-den-kanzler-der-einheit-kohl-plagen-jetzt-auch-herz-probleme_id_4813992.html(also a german link) He's now been in hospital for 10 weeks. Obviously, the statement that he would be going on a holiday was wrong (a very long holiday without return?). The article also mentions that he was doing a bit better for a couple of days during which he received a visit from former president Roman Herzog. His wife has been sleeping in the hospital all this time.

C'est la vie. Shame as after following him on Twitter to keep tabs on his health condition I'd really grown to despise the prick. Ha! I think that's going to happen to me with Fabian Bolin.

if he has cancer will his death get orbit in the UK media I'm not sure, he has won multiple Grammy's and Latin Grammy's though Now we know, the answer is yes: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/ap/article-3160218/Mexican-ballad-singer-Joan-Sebastian-dies-age-64.html I'm surprised how even my marginal suggestions die faster than I'd like to. (Edit: I know it's already been posted, but I wanted to answer the question above.) Edit: Even the BBC: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-33519929

A question: if they turn off the life support of people like Jules Bianchi or Bobbi Kristina Brown, does it count as an unnatural death?

Kirsty Derry, who had a rare genetic disorder that caused her to have constant high appetite, 'ate herself to death': http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/woman-ate-herself-death-aged-6051715 The name of the disorder is "Prader-Willi Syndrome" (PWS). Apparently, the death already happened in 2013, so it's a bit of a mystery why the Mirror picked up the story only now. My guess is fat-shaming, also, this part is too good not to share: "Just a week earlier (before her death), Kirsty had posted a heartbreaking final Facebook status which gave an insight into her battle with food. "yummy! yummy ! yummy! fillet steak new potatoes and salad I had for tea tonight," she wrote."

The spot-boy of Bollywood's nr. 1 actor Shak Rukh Khan, Subhash Dada, is dead of cancer: http://www.ibtimes.co.in/shah-rukhs-spot-boy-subhash-dada-passes-away-aryan-gauri-attend-funeral-photos-639034 I'll try to find out what a spot-boy is, but he was doing it for Mr. Khan for 25 years. Edit: So a spot-boy is just someone who does the dirty, mundane jobs on set. -
Just in.... Philipp Mißfelder, conservative german politician, is dead at 35: http://www.spiegel.de/politik/deutschland/philipp-missfelder-ist-tot-a-1043371.html(link in german) He died completely unexpected of a pulmonary embolism. For years, he was regarded as a rising conservative star until missteps in his dealings with Russia sort of pushed him aside. Wolfgang Schäuble however liked him and wished for Mißfelder to replace him at some point.
