I must stress that I am in NO WAY connected to anything even remotely to do with any investigation into any celebrities noncing any kiddies at any time. I just have access to the internet and a cynical world view. But it DOES seem to have gone a bit quiet regarding the latest high profile celebrity accusations against a certain individual, beloved of Davey's mum. What I suspect is that Somethin's Goin' On, and that an individual is Wanted by the police for questioning. This person appears to be Bold As Brass, however this may just be Soulacious gossip and an explanation from his Lucky Lips may yet lead to the revelation that he is simply a Misunderstood Man. What i do know is that I wouldn't trust the individual with my High Class Baby. Oh, and I don't know why it has popped into my head at this particular moment, but are readers of this thread aware of the concept of a 'super-injuction'? This is a legal device whereby a banning notice is served on any media outlet reporting allegations made against an individual, which also incorporates a ban on mentioning that said injunction is in place. Remember all the silly bother Ryan Giggs got into when he tried to have one and the whole of twitter wouldn't let him? Well, sometimes they work.

Actually, the prefix 'Paedo' comes from the greek 'Paidos' meaning 'child' or 'boy', while the suffix 'phile' is from 'philos', which means 'lover', so the literal translation of 'paedophile' is 'childlover' or 'boylover'. Its does not specifically, nor is it intended to, relate to prepubescent children or toddlers. If you are etymologically inclined, 'Pederast' has the same prefix root, but takes its suffix from the Greek 'erastes', also meaning 'lover', but is usually taken to pertain to adolescent males. Incidentally, I have a fair bit to do with paedophiles professionally and any adult (18 and up) who has sex with children (15 and down) is one in my book. And that book is Blackstones.

Look beyond the make up. He is struggling to string a sentence together, his suit fits him like a tent and he seems to be in a permanent grimace when not forcing himself to look at the podium instead of the audience. Then watch a youtube video of him from 6 months ago and see the difference in his demeanor. Sadly, I think that was probably his last public appearance and I'd maybe, if pushed, go so far as tip him for the first hit of the year. This is of course his cue to live 2 more years.

The victim was only ten years old? Why do they always target The Young Ones? Congratulations are due to the victim for having the courage to come forward after all his time, an ordeal like that can't have been much of a Summer Holiday. Luckily, shes said to have been able to show the police where the unnamed suspect touched her, using a Living Doll for reference. This was all recorded in a room which was Wired For Sound, so it can be shown to the jury later if need be. I just hope the defence don't do the usual of trying to paint her as some sort of Devil Woman, as I Just Don't Have The Heart to hear her being berated to the point where she decides to tell the court that 'We Don't Talk Anymore'. In any event, I send the victim All My Love and All I Ask Of You is that you join me in saying a Millennium Prayer for her this Saviours Day.

I disagree. Teaching doesn't strike me as a profession which allows timely internal identification of bad practice. If a copper messes up an arrest/loses evidence/lies, can be held accountable by the court/his chain of command/IPCC immediately. If the milkman gives you gold top instead of silver, you can tell his boss and he'll be gripped immediately. Unless there is a high profile incident (assault, inappropriate relationship, etc...) I don't really see how poor teachers can be easily identified, other than by rigorous inspection by an independent agency.

In the current climate, CPS would take the accusation that a celebrity sexually assaulted you with a unicorn horn, whilst high on pixie dust and rocking horse shit to court. They are getting so much flack for chinning Savile, Watkins et al off in the past that they don't care about the stats, they just want to pass the issue elsewhere and be able to say they tried. I'm not saying DLT was innocent of all the charges by virtue of climate, I can't think of a time in the last few centuries where putting bits of you inside someone else against their will (unless it was your wife, whom you could legally rape until 1991) was okay, but grinding against someone, squeezing boobs and bums, and generally being more forceful in your pursuit of the ladies was pretty standard back in the day.

Might I suggest the misleading thread title be changed? As this has spiraled beyond simply Mr Savile, perhaps 'Nonce-sense' might be more appropriate? (It is my personal belief that Chris Morris should be referenced as often as possible.) In other news, I had a debate with a colleague today about DLT. Now, I am not saying he was blameless. A quick google reveals that some of the ccusations are quite serious, however, the stuff that seems to be making the news such as; Grinding his groin against a colleague during a smoochy song. Groping somebody's bottom Flicking a name badge attached to a busty security guard and commenting 'Securi-titty' Jiggling the breasts of a colleague as she read the news Seems to me, an 80's child, to be simply the way men carried on in the seventies/early eighties. Trying it on forcefully with women, slapping arses and jiggling boobs was rife in the eighties by my recollection. In fact, the 'Have you had your boobs weighed' proto-meme was doing the rounds when I was in high school in the mid 90's. By modern standards of course his behaviour was unacceptable, however, if we consider that he did this around a time when Benny Hill more or less glorified such actions on a prime time TV show as 'comedic', how can we now lambast them as 'criminal' and 'shocking'. Be in no doubt, the Sexual Offences Act 1956 DOES cover what he has done, and does categorise it as 'indecent assault', however, by the same token the 'bums rush' beloved of Rugby fans around the time was an offence of 'Indecent Exposure' under the Vagrancy act of 1824 and vintage football chants such as 'you're going home in a fucking ambulance' are similarly illegal under the Offences Against the Persons Act of 1861. They were accepted as part of life, and thus never charged. The example I gave to my colleague was this; as a Scotsman, I am routinely referred to as a 'Sweaty sock' by English colleagues. This causes no offence to me, coming as it does from harmless cockney rhyming slang for 'Jock'. However, lets say that over the next few years an event occurs which renders the use of that term pejorative on a level with the 'N word'. Under the Public Order Act 1986, the use of threatening or abusive words or behaviour is an offence. Should I therefore be able to complain that I was once called a sweaty sock, as the term is now pejorative? Of course not. Its fine to say it now, and people should be judged by the standards of their time. I'm not excusing the actions of DLT, but it is society's fault, not his, that this behaviour was so prevalent as to not draw comment at the time. We cannot apply new legislation retrospectively, so we should not try to apply more stringent application of old legislation retrospectively. If you are still in doubt, have a look at the last time you so a seventies comedy show on TV. Almost none of them are re-run because by modern standards they are racist, sexist and discriminatory in a way that modern audiences would find appalling. I don't see the producers of those shows being dragged before the BBC's professional standards committee and asked to account for them, as they were simply 'of their time'.

I have issues with the whole 'stolen to order' scenario. Putting my criminal head on for a minute, I'd certainly be making any crime where the punishment is 'life in prison, branded a sex offender' follow the path of least resistance. Want a small, blond haired female child? Buy one for crack from a scumbag, drug addicted single mother in some eastern European shit hole. No shortage of blondes in Russia, the Ukraine or the like. I have difficulty believing that someone with the criminal means to smuggle a child out of a country doesn't know a few people of who would give up their kids for crack, even if it is by proxy. Stealing the daughter of a well to do English family in the middle of a child friendly holiday resort is pretty risky and criminals on that level aren't dumb. Equally, I'm not sure how many roving gangs of paedophiles there are out hunting for kids and trusting chance to provide their fare. Occam's razor suggests accidental killing.

I would like to see the legislation that allows a British policeman to arrest a Portuguese criminal for a crime committed in Portugal. This story sounds like smoke and, ahem, Mirrors. If the British Police are arresting anyone, it'll be a British person suspected of murder/manslaughter abroad. Now, who could that be...

I'm not sure if it counts as a 'crass generalisation' to base ones assumptions based solely on an individual's experience, but every teacher I know personally is the kind of social, financial and general fuck up that I wouldn't let mind my dog, let alone a child. One in particular (who is considered something of a 'rising star' in her profession) was recently interviewed by the police after meeting a spanish barman while on holiday, inviting him to live with her in the UK after a two week whirlwind romance and then allowing him to stay with her while he embarked on a series of armed robberies. And this person spends 6/7 hours a day teaching primary school children how to succeed in life. I think we need to return to a time when teaching was considered a prestige employment, rather than the default setting for the wet and unambitious which it now seems to have become.

I shouldn't have thought so. The offences against the person act allows for murder/manslaughter committed abroad to be tried in the UK, but unless they took an active part in the proceedings i don't think there would be a legal mechanism by which to arrest them for that. I can't find anything that says the new Serious Crime Act offence of 'encouraging or assisting' an offender can be applied to offences abroad either, and in any case, the 'offender' would presumably be the doctor, not the patient. The doctor at the link below has assisted 25 patients through the doors at Dignitas and although it does appear he has been interviewed by the police in relation to it at some point, he was not arrested and has faced no charges. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2333133/Man-83-Briton-Dignitas-assisted-suicide-dementia.html (Apologies for brain damage caused by reading the Daily Mail but this was one of the few pages NOT warning me to expect to turn up to work on Monday and find that I have been replaced by a Romanian immigrant)

I'd suggest its more based on his historic support of 'right to die' issues and his subscription to 'Dignitas Monthly'. Incidentally, will he get an unnatural death bonus for booking himself into a clinic? Isn't that a bit like getting executed, except by choice?

Sorry, I did mean Edward VIII but lost count of my 'I's. It was Edward VIII who only did 11 months before abdicating for George VI. Eddie VII was one of Vicky and Al's kids and had a decent near-decade long reign. Liz's papa was one of his.

You can either have Charles have a short reign or an elderly Wills taking over. You can't have both. On form, Her Maj is likely to cark it circa 2026. Charles would then be 78 on coronation and Wills would be 44. He could then do a good two decades on the throne before Wills would even start to be considered 'elderly'. Also, given that the shortest reign by a British Monarch is 13 days, it would take something special for him to be in with a shout for 'shortest in history'. Even keeping it modern, Edward VIII only managed 11 months before the Queen's dad took over. Edit: Now with correct added 'I'.
