A two line precis of what Martin points out is:- The current personal tax free allowance for income is £12,750 a year. Single persons full state pension is £11,000 (ish, max). So you don't pay tax - if and only if, that's your only income. But that's not because the state pension is untaxed, that has never been the case nor is it proposed. The tories have tried to stealth increase tax by not raising the thresholds in line with inflation, and apparently trying to fix that in stone until 2028 (a change of govt notwithstanding). So if the pension goes up (as it will with the triple lock) to over £12,750, you'll pay tax on the part that exceeds that amount (if you weren't already via any other income) It's not rocket science. I thought the bingo box thing was a wee bit disingenuous really, possibly as with others of this type many of them are for humourous purposes. Check out the cheapest council tax in the country it's massively less than you pay (clue, you probably can't buy a house there). How 'fair' is that? Potholes, I cycle a bit as well as drive a car, so get shouted at 'I pay my road tax' a fair bit. Yes you do sir, but it doesn't go on the roads, nor does the fuel duty, nor the VAT on the fuel duty. You know who pays for the potholes to be fixed? The local council....who get none of that money.
