    Sir David Attenborough

I have a very bad feeling about Sir David Attenborough's omission from the 2024 list... I hope to be proven wrong. Of course, we all want him to make it to 2025, as he's an international treasure, but he'll be turning 98 in May...

I just hope this won't be another Pope Benedict XVI scenario. If he makes it to 2024, I trust that he'll be included no matter what. Sir David Attenborough, who turns 98 in May, also needs to be brought back. Both are far safer picks than Alan Alda and Robert Wagner, in my opinion.

    1. Jimmy Carter

I posted some pictures from the funeral, but I see that most were already in the thread. Not sure how to delete my message, so I'll just say it's really sad to see Jimmy Carter in such a state. There would be nothing more poetic than him joining his wife today or at least very shortly. They lived almost their entire lives together.

    10. Robert Wagner

Here's an uneventful Instagram live broadcast with Robert Wagner and his daughter Natasha from two weeks ago. The main takeaways are that he has trouble walking, was diagnosed with mild COPD, exercises three days a week, and recently did a 90-minute documentary about his career that should come out in the next months. Barring a severe fall, he's probably a safe drop for 2024.

  13. American politics are fucked, though. Grassley was key in flipping Iowa red all the way back in 1980 and I suspect that the GOP wouldn't trust a newcomer to keep it red. Almost every election since then resulted in a landslide victory for him, with the closest one being the most recent one. Grassley also notoriously filed paperwork for reelection in 2028. He would be 95 in 2028 and a centenarian at the end of his ninth term. Of course, this is totally ludicrous, but when you have senators like Dianne Feinstein and Mitch McConnell refusing to retire and making headlines because of their ongoing health issues, you're bound to fly under the radar as a healthy nonagenarian. If Iowans choose to vote for a 95-year-old in 2028, then they'll exactly get the only senator they deserve.

    Thoughts on 2023 Deathlist

A solid list, indeed, but what is even more interesting is that the average age of a 2023 DL entry is 90.42 years old. Now, granted, the ages displayed on the main list take into account upcoming birthdays for the ongoing year, but that might be the highest average for a DeathList yet. The lowest age seems to be that of Andy Taylor (currently 62), while the oldest entry is Norman Lear at 101. If we look at the 2020 DL, we can notice that the average age is 89.1 years old because, while the upper half of the list has many old entries, the lower half is more mixed. The youngest name was Tom Smith at 49, with the oldest being Kirk Douglas and Olivia de Havilland at 104. There are also more octogenarians on the 2020 DL. We'll see if the 2024 DeathList continues this trend of raising the overall entry age and taking fewer risks when it comes to younger, usually very sick or terminally ill picks. This is not a critique, though, because it seems to be working very well so far! It might be interesting to compare the current list to the 2020 DL in terms of notoriety, too, although that can be quite subjective. Wow, this post was utterly useless trivia... but self-awareness is key.

She's so attached to the Senate that I think she'll go after her term ends (unless she's not allowed to finish it).
