TMZ claiming to have a picture of the body and even showing the arms and tattoos to prove it's really him... Shameless.

His cognitive decline must have begun 96 years ago. There's actually a very recent video of him and his wife meeting with Renaud Mannheim and his neo-Nazi friends. The rugby match playing in the back shows that it was maybe taken yesterday. https://x.com/i/status/1840363977915629859 There are new pictures as well: https://x.com/JCoupable/status/1840429541518360739

This is purely speculative, but... in his last interview, when asked about his memorial, he said "I don't have a date yet, but I'm not feeling too well," so he might have already known that something was wrong.

Winters can be particularly difficult for some of the picks on the list as they become increasingly frailer and sicker. I still expect a double-digit final score, with many deaths occurring in November and December (and continuing through January, February and March).

Not sure how much of that is true, unfortunately. I did some research on X and found this apparently new picture from yesterday, debunking those rumors: https://x.com/ThomasJoly732/status/1808570926989988252. I think he's likely to see 2025, but anything can happen at that age.

Here's a video of him reacting to the results of the recent 2024 European Parliament election, with a cane by his side: https://www.tiktok.com/@tenqofficiel/video/7379340011071622432. Seeing Jordan Bardella's score being more than twice as high as Macron's representative, he says "Dans l'cul, Lulu" (basically "up your ass" in response to Macron's heavy defeat). Here's also a tweet with a picture apparently taken on his birthday: https://x.com/Baudouin_wissel/status/1803754264767984073. And here's another recent picture I was able to find: https://x.com/55Bellechasse/status/1803776122720493772.

Here's a Twitter thread mentioning a couple of apparently reliable Brazilian journalistic sources that claim that he's alive: https://x.com/ggreenwald/status/1803155821695525152

Can she really be trusted if she claims that he's well?
-
Two Wikipedians have been going at it... is... was... is... was...

The New Stateman has it now.. how reliable is it? Edit: Looks like we all saw the same thing, my bad!

His whole life, he was numb to the right and only raised his arm for the left. His body's just following suit. Joke in poor taste apart, I do wish him a speedy "recovery" (whatever that may mean at his age). It sounds like he could have died on the way to Brazil. However, if his condition still hasn't significantly improved a year later, it likely won't until his death. I also vaguely recall Piers Morgan interviewing him in June 2023... Coincidence?

His daughter, Anouchka, posted a new picture of him (apparently taken last Friday) on Instagram.
-
First public appearance since hospitalization.

He met with Dr. Jane Goodall last month, and there are some new pictures.

Absolutely. With all the great picks this year, I was beginning to convince myself that the committee knew something we didn't know about Robert Wagner, but he'll probably just be picked until he dies... which I don't see happening this year.

Noam Chomsky's long-time MIT assistant, Bev Stohl, recently posted an update on Reddit. The main takeaway is that he suffered a medical event last June and has been recovering since. We'll apparently know more about his prognosis soon. The wording (e.g., "He's still with us") isn't great, but it doesn't sound like his death is imminent, either.

I'm not convinced he's near death. But if he does die in 2024, my guess is that he'll die late into the year.
-
I think it's because the DeathList lists everyone at the age they would have after their birthday for that year. All the other celebrities who haven't yet celebrated their 2024 birthdays are also listed as being one year older. Edit: LWCZ beat me to it!

Rest in peace. Glad she was recognized and included in this year's list, though she never became a Dame before passing away...

A solid list, with a lot of variety, some interesting drops, a few notable misses (like Sir David Attenborough), and even some risky or early picks (like Pope Francis). The average age of a 2024 DL entry is 89.58 years old, as opposed to last year's 90.42. The oldest entry is still a 101-year-old person, while the youngest is 57 years old (in comparison to Andy Taylor, who was 62 last year). I predict fewer hits, but still double-digit deaths, because there are some names that just seem ripe for 2024 (like Jimmy Carter). However, I think most deaths will come from the top half of the list, which isn't too surprising.

In a way, the Pope Benedict XVI miss explains this pick. However, it would only make sense as a long-term commitment: he should now never be dropped until he dies, no matter when that is. Otherwise, there's no point in picking him this year and dropping him next year.
