The Weatherman Death Pool
Canadian Paul replied to weatherman90's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Damn, I spent so much time worrying that Eddie Thompson would die before April that I completely forgot that Jeff Healey was on the same team. Well done Football Fan! -
Things To Do While Waiting For Death... 2008
Canadian Paul replied to football_fan's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Sorry NAP. While I could really use a car, I'd much rather bid on a date with Scarlett Johansson. -
97-year old ex-UCLA basketball coach and surprisingly popular DDP pick has taken a fall at his home, but is said to be doing well. I point this out because the Guardian has covered the incident, which means that they'll likely do the same for his death, meaning DDP points should it happen.

Some of this may also be due to the fact that he's apparently been told by the Hillary campaign to tone it down a bit, as by coming across as super charismatic it only highlights the fact that she isn't. Reminds me a bit of the Seinfeld episode where George asks Jerry to stop being funny around a woman George is trying to impress so as to keep the limelight for himself. "I'm sorry George, I'm in love with your friend Jerry. He's so dark and brooding" Never thought of it that way, though if they're chastising him for that, I can't imagine what they said when he announced that Hillary wouldn't get the nomination if she didn't win Texas and Ohio. By the way, slightly off topic, but Misers, can you correct the spelling of "Cardinal Paul" in your sig? I keep looking at it in its current state and thinking you've chosen me for the DDP!

He's now being treated well, but is still terminal.

Well ol' Slick Willy (according to Wikipedia, it's Slick Willie, but nuts to that) came to campaign at UT for Hillary and I have to say that I wasn't very impressed, especially given how hyped he is as a public speaker. I mean, he wasn't bad, but he wasn't anything special either. He looks like he's aged a lot too, very red in the face, seemed tired throughout the night and overall just looks his age a lot more than he used to. He did, however, run around high-fiving people, so I wouldn't put him on your list just yet. I stick by my "Bush Sr. dying in his 90s, Clinton in his 70s" as not unreasonable statement having seen him up close and personal. In non-death related topics, other notable guests included disgraced politician Henry Cisneros and Goonie/Hobbit Sean Astin who, quite frankly, was far more exciting than Bill Clinton as far as I'm concerned.

One of those awkward "World War I era" veterans has died - 105 year old American Floyd Matthews.

American conservative writer William F. Buckley has died at the age of 82. A unique DDP hit for Noz4news if a UK obit emerges.

Who's Going To Be Around For A While?
Canadian Paul replied to Banshees Scream's topic in DeathList Forum
Last night's honorary Oscar winner Robert F. Boyle. At the age of 98, he managed to get up to the podium with the aid of only a walking stick and Nicole Kidman and deliver a decent speech. He's not exactly running marathons, but he seems pretty healthy given his age. -
No rest for the wicked, apparently. Site updated to reflect the death of Janez Drnovsek - congrats to OoO who is in first place now in the Theme Team category, and to The Carking Lot, who moves into joint-second place in the Ordinary Team category.

UK Obit CP, any idea where a picture of this lady can be procured for DDP purposes? The Associated Press obituary has one of only I believe two pictures.

Well, being sick has a few advantages among the many, many disadvantages. And since my plan to sneeze on Clinton fell by the wayside, I've finally got around to updating the CPDP to its new domain. So yes, everything finally works on the site again (although chances are with 330 odd names, I made a mistake somewhere, so if you see a broken link somewhere, please give me a heads up). Given the track record of my site working though, you might want to check out while you can...

Japan's oldest person says Sayanora. A unique DDP hit for All Nails in the Coffin if the news makes it to the UK. The fact that this notice is in English is a promising start.

Who Do You Think Will Win The Democrat And Republican Nominations?
Canadian Paul replied to Windsor's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Got front row seating at the Texas Debate Screening Party (not surprisingly, they don't let 'mmgants into the actual debate). The fact that Chelsea Clinton canceled on us at the last minute cemented my support for Barack Obama. Well that and the fact that I'd rather see George Bush Jr. in a third term of office than give Hillary Clinton five minutes as Commander in Chief. Hopefully Texas/Ohio will put the seal on Obama vs. McCain. As has been pointed out, at least with that election, most people are guaranteed to get at least something they like in a President no matter what the outcome. Unless the Green Party has a surprise comeback. -
If you trust Wikipedia, it can be spelled either way. Seeing as how his birth name was Geff Rushton, I doubt that there's a definitive answer.

It would appear she is more frail than she appeared... Hardly. John Balance was 42 when he fell down the stairs and he died from it. Reagan, on the other hand, is already out of hospital. If anything, this makes her healthier than she appeared. Of course, most falls at that age shave a few years off your life no matter what...

I noticed an error there, it says both "turned 90 this year" and "turns 91 this year", when only the latter should be there. Fixed. Thanks.

Ideas And Possibilities For 2009
Canadian Paul replied to Anubis the Jackal's topic in DeathList Forum
Russia has finally let Aleksanyan go to hospital, not that it is likely to help him very much at this point. -
List updated. Here's some current health news: To start with, Ieng Sary might be soon following in the footsteps of Sam Bith, as he's been in hospital quite a lot recently. Darts player Dennis Priestley is recuperating at home and may be well enough to play again in mid-March, though he won't be getting the tests done to see how the treatment worked until the end of March. I couldn't find a solid health update on Canadian MP Barry Penner, but he's been out and about and he looks pretty healthy in the picture. Eunice Kennedy apparently got out of the hospital at some point, but she's apparently very frail, though still appearing in public (the video has nothing to do with her).

I hadn't known that he was such a controversial man. Explains why his website is in German though. Spectacular recovery for a 104 year old man though, a lot of people a decade or even two younger might not have survived.

Indeed, well done to both teams. Forgot to mention that I updated the site a few hours ago to reflect Salvador's death. As an aside, everything on the site works now except for the individual current candidate pages themselves. But if you're just interested in the text, they're all properly linked from the individual team profiles now.

Hey look, Amte's got an obit in The Times. On a serious note, I wonder if this is more or less the reason he's got barely any coverage outside of India?
-
It's exactly that sort of thing that did in Tom Poston rather recently. And his wife too, come to think of it.
-
As am I. I've had three hits thusfar, but Amte was the only one that I'd heard of outside of deadpooling. Still, there's plenty of opportunities for an obit for now, as well as that BBC end of the month roundup that was posted somewhere in the other forum.

It's a sad day for higher culture in America. Ron Leavitt, co-creator of "Married... with Children" had died of lung cancer.
