Sad state of affairs when Heath Ledger gets more applause than Jane Wyman and Deborah Kerr combined at the SAG Awards' "In Memoriam" segment, even not counting what is arguably the "overall applause" for the entire production at the end.
-
Thanks to the mod who changed it to 2008. Miser more or less answered HCW's question I hope... it saves people from having to trawl through the Ideas and Possibilities thread to review names, plus it's a place to discuss said names if they don't have their own thread.
-
I have started updating this list for 2008, mostly by removing the people that have died in January. My next plan is to update and check the names that are currently on there, including updating their age/prospective age for 2008. After that, I'll add in all the recent suggestions. If some kindly mod could update the title of this thread, it would be appreciated.

Valentine's Day It would be better if he passes away, one day before ( Feb 13th ) That would be an extra 2 points for those teams that chose him Amen to that.... Christodoulos has died.

Kudos to Deathlist?! You mean, well done to DL for picking an 87 year old Bastard whos actually been dead for the last year or so anyway? Kudos? No Bone Idle? Yes If DL picks people who are old, sick and die, people complain that easy targets are being picked. If DL picks people who are youthful, healthy and don't die, people complain that the DL sucks because it's not getting hits. If people are going to whine no matter what happens, might as well be successful in one's chosen endeavour. Or, as Rick Nelson put it, "You can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself"

Site updated to reflect the death of Suharto, as well as making the Hall of Ghosts (somewhat) more functional. Also, I just found out that former Winnipeg Blue Bomber Steve Rodehutskors died back in October 07 at the age of only 43 from cancer. I mention this only because I was trying to decide between putting Tyrone Jones and Rodehutskors on my team, and went with the former because the latter didn't even have a Wikipedia page, so I figured he might not get a proper obit. That would have been good enough. Plus I figured that, given his age, he was worth a mention here.

I happened to get MC Hawking's "A Brief History of Rhyme" for my birthday. Sadly, due to legal complications, the track is not available on the CD. Nevertheless, with classics such as "All My Shootings Be Drivebys", one cannot afford to miss such a treasure.
-
While OoO is updating for Suharto, he can add Viktor Schreckengost to the List of the Lost, as he has died at age 101, though without a proper obit yet. EDIT: Got one now. Congrats to Fallen Sparrow and Old People Party of 20.

I say that Sydney Pollack finally confirms that he has terminal stomach cancer... by dying of it.
-
And so Suharto joins the ranks of Pinochet and Papon
-
Randy Pausch joins the cast of the new movie, in a small role.

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries ,etc ...for 2008
Canadian Paul replied to football_fan's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! I can say that my 22nd birthday probably topped, in many ways, my 21st and 20th birthdays, making it the best birthday I've had since I've been on Deathlist. Madame Defarge, I can't figure out exactly what "Ukrainian Power" is but, being Ukrainian myself of course, it does indeed frighten me. From the cover, it looks like Grimace took a few too many Prozac. -
A bit late, but confirmed dead.

A shame really, and I think that Star Crossed sentiments should apply to World War I veterans as well. Out of the four veterans that have died thus far this year, one (de Cazenave) got international intention, one (Wychech) got some low key press, one (Cambefort) got no press at all because apparentely you're only good enough to be a veteran in France if you served for four months and one (Kastner) is from a government who barely even acknowledges his existence. In any case H, if it makes you feel better, Pleshette was another "picked last year, not picked this year" candidate. Once my work and my birthday are done with, I'll be updating the "Hall of Ghosts" so that it a) Works and Reflects the death of these two

If only Winehouse, Doherty, Spears or Lohan will oblige a trifecta. Renfro and Ledger were actually talented, however, so I suppose it will be someone like Orlando Bloom who completes it. Seems a shame, though I can't really judge until more is known.

Ideas And Possibilities For 2009
Canadian Paul replied to Anubis the Jackal's topic in DeathList Forum
Hunger strike ended because he had to work on his dissertation. As long as it came to a noble end of course. -
According to Wikipedia, he died just a day after his 84th birthday, missing out on a DDP party pooper bonus... But even if he DID die on his birthday, it'd still be a miss as nobody picked him on DDP. So long as you don't count the two that did.
-
Sh*t luck for France, as last week also saw the end of the line for Raymond Cambefort.
-
And since I posted it at the same time in the DDP thread, this may be the first triple simultaneous post in DL history! And here I thought I had a scoop... I should also note that the BBC report is technically wrong. There are two more French veterans, Ponticelli and Raymond Cambefort, but the French government doesn't recognize his tenure due to the length of service.
-
BBC obit for Louis de Cazenave, a unique pick for the "All Nails in the Coffin" team of oldsters. Some veterans get 'em, some veterans don't.
-
As Phantom mentioned in the dead thread, Canadian broadcaster Don Wittman is a goner. Remains to be seen whether he'll get a proper obit or not, though personally I'd be surprised.
-
Funny, I was thinking the same thing... Despite your longevity here at DL, you're still acting like that annoying ratbag who seems to turn up at every party; the one who is compelled to explain people's jokes and generally chip his $0.02-worth into every conversation he can overhear. Every time you post, it's in a little flurry of maybe 5 or 6 posts in rapid succession; mainly just obsequious, needless little ditto-posts like the one above. You're reminiscent of a smack addict with a £30 wrap and and a new roll of tin-foil... you can't stop until it's gone, even if it takes all night. Buck up, CP. Try just posting when you've actually got something to say, not because you're working to a quota. Bobby Fischer was a chess player. I never thought he'd die so soon. He certainly wasn't on my DDP. RIP Bobby. I hope wherever you are, you're still the King of the Castling. etc. Actually, the last time I checked, I didn't post that often for months before the New Year, and most people have found my posts either informative or entertaining. In fact, a simple trek through my past post history proves you wrong again, as usual. I'm glad you took a break from raping children to come back and post on DL, so that you can act like a big man in front of your wife to prove that you're not impotent to her womanly passions anymore, and that you can still pick a good fight on the ol' internet, and that maybe now she can stop giving handjobs to hobos just for some sexual excitement. We all appreciate it here, and I know little Timmy's sore anus certainly does as well.

People keep reporting on Wikipedia that Stanisław Wycech has died. If true, that would mean the end of both the last German and the last Polish veteran of WWI has died in January 2008, but I can't find a link for Wycech. Edit: Here's an obituary in English
-
Indeed, I can't say that I ever saw this death coming. Well done Redmyst XX, I post whore/tip my hat to you.
-
When's the last time you heard? The last time I heard, he did another concert for his 104th birthday (which would have been early December 07), so either he recovered, or this happened really recently. Do you have a link?
