Looks like you picked the wrong Japanese guy. Sukesaburo Nakanishi, the world's second-oldest man has died. Seeing as how his only obit was in Japanese (he died over a month ago), it would have fit in well with your "doesn't get an obit" theme.
-
Are you sure? 'cuz I thought that was the whole point behind graduate school...

Yeah, but in Japan.....they have earthquakes. Ah I see. The plan is to make up for his age and famous for being famousness by hoping he'll die in an earthquake for accident bonus points. Gotcha.

Deathlist Dreaming

Latest DL related dream - Muhammad Ali - though all I remember is seeing that he was a recent death on Wikipedia. -
Says he wants to live forever. I've got CPDP points riding on his ambitions being dashed before the end of August. Quotes from the World's Oldest people message board: "He sounds amazingly healthy. I read in another article that he takes daily walks alone outside. It wouldn't surprise me if he became the oldest male ever, or lived to the age of 120." "I don't say he would live forever as he wants, but a couple of years more yes. I don't remember of seeing another 112 with the health and disposal of Tanabe. I'm wishing the best for him." Experience has taught me not to share the extremes of their optimism, but for a 112 year old, his vitality is indeed off the charts.

Woman is born, gets engaged, gets married and dies on the same day, September 16. Same day many years apart, of course. I wonder what the odds of this are, in the sense of, how many people choose to get married on their birthday? I suspect this might not be as out there as it seems (except for the dying part) as a wedding proposal makes for a good (or cheap, depending on your point of view I suppose) birthday present, then the sentimental think it would be great to get married on the birthday too (saves you from having to buy both anniversary and birthday presents). So I guess it hinges on how often it is as that people choose to get married on their birthdays.

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries ,etc ...for 2007

You're safe from the Portugese - Maddie was only four. HoS, on the otherhand, would be on the first plane to Texas... I didn't even think about it that way! For the record, although anything related to sexy six year olds would indeed by something I'd find disturbing, I was more referring to disturbing legal images. -

Searching for any combination of "sexy" and "six" borders on the disturbing at times, so I'll have to be lame and merely wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY Six! -
No one is going to hand you a list of names to use on a platter. It's obvious that you have little interest in doing the research yourself either. Had you spent 60 seconds it took to write this post or start that earlier thread actually looking at the front page of this forum, you would have found the big thread called "Ideas and Possibilities: The Names (2007 Edition)" that not only contains about 100 people's names with a brief description of their ailments, but also contains a majority of actually notable people since it's more directed towards proposals to the DL Committee at the end of the year than individual deadpools.

Deathlist Dreaming

How can you remember your dreams in such detail? I barely remember any of my dreams. The ones I do remember, I can only give a basic outline. Do you sit with a note pad by the bed and write them down when you wake up? The dreams I do remember I remember very vividly for about a day, then it fades away fairly quickly. Long ago, for various reasons, it was recommended to me that I start writing my dreams down - therefore I try to do it the day after, even though I often don't feel like it, hence the reason that I post it on DL. Also, this dream was an unusually long one, I'm sure that in this case I'm only remembering part of it. -
The previously-mentioned Calvin L. Rampton has died of his cancer, the second stupid miss for me in a day.

Deathlist Dreaming
Canadian Paul replied to harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I had quite an intense death-related dream last night and I'm not sure what to make of it to be honest. So I was in this weird country, that was like a cross between Germany and a video game and I was a slave in the basement of the airport. My basic job was to serve the owner of the airport, Luke Skywalker, by running errands for him. Skywalker was not dressed as one would expect him to be, but as a German Nazi officer (minus the swastika) as were all of his personal guards. So I lived in the basement of this airport and did various tasks for him. The whole thing was set up like a video game. On this particular day, I was supposed to be delivering messages among the senior officers. When I got in the elevator, certain buttons blinked and I was expected to press them in the correct sequence. When I did, I was brought to the main floor of the airport, without my restraints. I figured that this was my chance to escape, so I tried to sneak out of the airport. I dodged behind suitcases and in shadows, but it was to no avail. One of the guard robot spheres spotted me and began firing lasers at me. I decided to grab a blue laser and make a run for it. The whole scene turned into a top-down 2D view of the surrounding forest as I dashed out of the airport, firing my laser at various blocky robot guards. Lucky, the blue laser was the most powerful and tore through their ranks. I took some hits too, but those were from red lasers, so I was only slightly injured. Finally I made it to this warehouse that had a big white door and a lightsaber. I grabbed the lightsaber and the door raised to let me in. Then it slammed shut behind me and I was in a round room with a similar door leading to a new room. That door opened as well and let me in, and again slammed shut. There was a third door but, before I could open it, the door that I had entered through opened again and a Rancor came in. I fought and defeated him with my green lightsaber and he died and faded away. Then, Luke Skywalker came in. He was no longer dressed in a uniform, but in his white Jedi outfit, and he had a purple lightsaber. He defeated me and I blacked out. When I came to, I was back in front of the first door, this time with only a cheap sword. Again I went through the first two doors but, this time, instead of a Rancor, the third door opened. This door led into the back storage room and I realized the the entire place was just a cover for a warehouse full of red boxes of documents. I freaked out as one of the officers walked by, but then I realized that they couldn't see me because I was on top of a very high pile of boxes. Then I saw one of my enemies (like from real life) so I decided that I was in a good position to kill her. I threw two of the boxes at her, just barely missing, then tried to squash her by collapsing the whole stack on her, which didn't work either. As she alerted the guards, I climbed down, throwing big red file boxes at the guards to kill them and almost smashing through the final box which was labeled with some word that began with a K and had red and yellow squiggly lines on it. When I got down, I killed more guards with my sword and ran back outside. I recovered my blue laser and fired at the guard robots that surrounded me, this time avoiding all of their beams and destroying most of them. Finally I get to the balcony of the airport and one of my bearded friends (I forget who) was there. He tells me that I did in fact kill my enemy, even though she was able to alert the guards, but that I was very lucky and he thought I should beg Skywalker for forgiveness when he came to get me, otherwise I might die. I had the feeling that I would die and that I would lose in a battle with Skywalker. Skywalker charged up to me, this time wearing his orange pilot's outfit, and grabbed me and held me over the edge of the balcony, which hovered over a street about 70 feet below. He screamed at me to repent my killings and I said "I want to commit suicide, I want to die!" He said "that can be arranged" and loosened his grip. I used that to grab him and fling HIM over the edge, although I had to pull myself over the edge to accomplish this as well. We fell to our deaths, although I landed on top of him, so I survived for a few seconds before I died/woke up. I know that's a bit long, but I wanted to get it written down. And no, I haven't been playing video games or watching Star Wars. -
I thought about that for all of them, to be honest, but I took into account the spirit of the famous for being famous rule. The reason I instituted it was to discourage picks that are uncreative and were simply chosen on their high likelihood of dying. Sandy Allen and the Dionnes fit the spirit of "interesting picks" with the CPDP and I think punishing people for those kinds of picks defeats the purpose.

Fantasy author Robert Jordan, which sucks for two reasons. 1. He was a great fantasy author 2. He was a secret candidate of mine for over a year, but he said that he was as cured as you could be of his disease.

I see a flaw on Kenojuak Ashevak's page: She is said to be born June 18, 1955, but she's actually actually born on October 3, 1927. (EDIT again: I see you fixed it now) EDIT: For Bin Laden's page, you say he's an obscure Halibut theorist. Do you mean terrorist? Ah, thank you. I knew that I'd do that at least once with all the copying and pasting - I did fix it after reading your message. Are you implying that bin Laden is an obscure Halibut terrorist? He's certainly not obscure as a terrorist. Anyhow, letters D, E and Y are up (well, and Z as well I guess), which is enough until at least Tuesday as far as I'm concerned.

Since people have been polite enough not to die lately, I actually managed to get some work on the site done. The literal ABCs of the CPDP are up now, so if you have a candidate whose last name begins with A, B or C (which I think is everyone), please have a quick glance and make sure that I haven't made a mess of your candidate's page (copy and pasting has many a flaw).

Barbara Kent (b. 1906) Miriam Seegar (b. 1907 or 1909) Carla Laemmle (b. 1909) Dorothy Janis (b. 1910) I think that they were all active during either the 30s or 40s... also, here's a list of surviving silent film actors.

Errr... if I'm not mistaken, wasn't there some Arabic here earlier? Or did I just dream it? -
alright, votes please. Is he famous enough, and is he too low hanging fruit-ish to be considered a DL worthy candidate? I'd vote we pick him for 2008 If by famous enough, will he get an obit good enough for the DDP? Yes. Will your grandchildren know who he was? Probably not. Wouldn't consider him low-hanging fruit - he's beaten cancer once before and claims that he's getting better (I know, I know, he would say that). He also has enough money for the best treatment (which staved off Pavarotti's far worse pancreatic cancer for over a year). Personal, I'm skeptical that he'll die, though I can't say I wouldn't benefit from WDP points. My suggestion - put him in. You have 50 names, and you could easily kick someone like Olivia de Havilland or Ruby Muhammad off to give him a spot. People are going to complain no matter what. If you pick people who are old and sick, they'll complain that all the picks were too easy. If you don't pick people who are old and sick, you don't get as many hits, and people complain about how crap the list is/how few hits there are. Putting him in will cause less complaints because, if he does die, then the happiness of a hit drowns out the "well that was obvious" group. If you don't put him in, you'll get a plethora of complaints about how you missed "an obvious one" (I'm surprised that so few people complained about Pavarotti). Also, might be helpful to see how he's doing around December, might get a better idea of how the cancer is.

Deathlist Dreaming
Canadian Paul replied to harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I have, of course, had many dreams concerning the death list. In the Gerald Ford thread, I think, is the one where I helped Ford fight Lord Cthulhu. In the Maryport Thread, I believe, is the one where I went to Maryport and had MPFC and company take me to his house for a party or something. Then, of course, on the HDP is "Canadian Paul's Dream Team" where I choose only people I've seen die in dreams. Five hits thusfar, although since they were nowhere near the order that I dreamed them in (which is how I selected my team's order), I can't say that I have much faith in my psychic abilities. For those who are curious, or just want to prevent me from getting unique picks, here's my full list of people I've seen die in dreams, with a * indicating that I've had more than one death-related dream about them, and in order. Also, I don't believe I've ever had a dream where someone dead died. Ronald Reagan, Charles Lane*, Ariel Sharon, Benoit Mandelbrot, Meinhardt Raabe, Jean Stapleton, Mark Mothersbaugh, Suharto, Ice Cube, Ice T, Ron Santo*, Luciano Pavarotti, Stephen Fry, Tammy Faye*, Tom Poston, Ray Berres, Stewart Udall, Tony Martin, Elizabeth Bolden, Paul Prudhomme, Kenneth Kendall, Richard Whitemore, Margaret Thatcher, Johannes Heesters, Boris Yeltsin, Betty Ford, Saad al-Sabah*, Al Oerter, Harper Lee, Michael Foot, John Archibald Wheeler, Hans Erni, Flory Van Donck and Nichelle Nichols. Out of those, the only one who's died and not been on a list of mine was Boris Yeltsin, although if you don't count my HDP entry the first year (and I don't really), then Elizabeth Bolden as well. In addition, three of them had specific ages of death in the dream: Ice T (55), Johannes Heesters (111) and Boris Yeltsin (83). Since the latter was way off, I don't put too much stock into it. Out of all of those, the only one where there was actually a correlation between dream and death was Reagan, who I dreamed of dying the night before he died, and was thus quite astonished later in the afternoon when I turned on the news. Death related dreams for me aren't a DL related phenomenon either. When I was a kid, I used to have this series of dreams where I had to fight Gorillas, usually with me coming out as the loser. My most recent non-death DL-related dream came a few nights ago, when my mother insisted that I escort Margaret Thatcher around the town. She was so rude, she refused to shake my hand before I left her at the bus stop to catch her bus. -
Hard to tell. He doesn't look all that great in the "young man" photo either.

American Football Players

Didn't know that there was a thread for this. Anyhow, Kevin Everett, Buffalo Bills player, has sustained a life-threatening spinal cord injury. Not to mention, as we saw with Christopher Reeves, that paralytics are not conducive to long life, unless you're basically a robot like Stephen Hawkings. Mike Utley, the other player that the make reference to, is supposedly doing fine. Edit: Didn't realize that 'arry had posted the same thing. In my defense, however, the title of the link has nothing to do with the story.
