    Fidel Castro

Its sooo difficult to ignore, it gets my goat!!!!!!!! A mod came and erased all the old "imminent Castro death" messages at one point. There used to be hundreds, not to mention the squid ramblings. Might be a good task for some mod on a rainy afternoon to give this thread another well-deserved once over.

I think Mugabe is far beyond "mildly" demented, but that's just me.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2008

Various (and inconveniently unlocatable) sources have described him both as terminal and "miraculously recovered." What I can confirm is that he is still active, most notably serving in cabinet functions. Having said that, I did pick him for my RDP, but only because I was so surprised that pool actually had him that I had to choose him. That and the other 15 people I would have picked before him (Melly, Pym, Ramsay, Manekshaw, Tsien Hsue-Shen, Stubbs, Hart etc. etc.) were all unavailable. I can also tell you that I will not be picking Mr. Strahl on my CPDP unless many many people die in the next week and a half, so who knows, maybe you'll get a unique pick. I'd certainly say he's one to watch.

    Golf: The 19th Hole

Had a dream last night where he died - either you're up for a hit soon or I'm up for a 2008 HDP candidate! Good grief CP. Any other man would have a dream about a "Fit bird wiv big Bristols". Perhaps a weeks rest and a flick through Razzle will have you back to your normal self? Well to elaborate, I was having a dream where a "fit bird wiv big Bristols" and I were undercover in 1944 Germany. We barely spoke any German, but we had Nazi uniforms and were trying to sneak through their headquarters, which for some reason was a hotel that was designed to resemble Castle Wolfenstein. Anyhow, the aforementioned bird had just come back from a document raid (we had a room in the hotel) but her superior was right pissed that she had forgotten to recover the envelope that was sent "express post." I decided to be bold and brazen and go for the documents myself. It was terribly suspenseful, slipping past Nazi guards, giving a few Sieg Hiels and dashing in and out of corridors and doorways to avoid detection. Finally, I reached the desk and began sorting through the mail as I heard footsteps approaching. Finally, I spot the white envelope with green writing marked "express post," check to make sure that it is what I want and run off just before the guard comes back. Then I hear a guard approaching from in front so I jump into a two-way utility closet and stash the envelope under my shirt. As I am leaving into the hallway, I knock down the water fountain and yell out "sh*t!" Only then to I realize that I should have yelled "Schiesse!" The janitor notices so I say "Many forgiveness mein comrade, I am only trying to learn the English" and for some reason he was Mexican (damn my racist subconscious!) so he doesn't seem to care. Then I hear "Achtung! Achtung!" and hear the footsteps of pursuit. Instead of taking the elevator I make a mad dash down the stairs and into the room where my secret agent "wiv da big Bristols" awaits. Had the garbage truck not woken me up, I'm sure she would have rewarded me with hours of boundless joy in the hotel room tea and crumpets. Instead, I fell back asleep and dreamed that BS was chiding me because I didn't pick Flory Van Donck and she had died.

BBC Obit for Leona Helmsley. Congrats to the three teams that picked her, all scoring their first hit.

Don't want to do a big post quote, but per my last post in this thread, Henry Allingham is now in the 49th spot. One of the Japanese cases had been deceased since March. And no, I'm not going to point this out every time it happens. I'm pointing it out once to prove my point and that's it (promise).

Those of you interested in tracking Henry's progress can add this page to their watchlist: List of living supercentenarians It gets updated faster than Table E on the GRG and contains several of the cases that have not been validated enough to be on the GRG website, but enough that they are plausible. Those who worry about the reliability needn't fear - the page is watched closely by every gerontologist on Wikipedia to avoid false information. Also, I'm led to believe that Henry is even higher than #50 - I'm told that a few of the people on that list have been reported as deceased, and that the GRG is merely awaiting confirmation. Don't know if they're above or below Harry though. Also keep in mind what I said about the Japanese cases - unless they're the top like Tanabe, Minagawa or Nakano, their deaths could go unnoticed for almost a year.

    Deathlist 2011

The only source for that is Wikipedia and since it is in turn unsourced, I don't particularly trust it. What about this? This info came before West's Wiki article was modifed to say she was incapacitated. That site I do trust a lot more, thank you. Top notch research guest. Their entries have been updated to reflect this. Thank you.

    Deathlist 2011

The only source for that is Wikipedia and since it is in turn unsourced, I don't particularly trust it. Anyhow, due to popular demand, the list has been updated with both old removls (Astor, Byrne, Woodhall, Deedes, Rizzuto) and new addtions. I'm thinking of removing the following people next. Speak now or forever hold your peace: Kevyn Burger - American talk-show radio host now suffering from breast cancer. UK obit unlikely. Tom Hamilton - bassist in Aerosmith, who has throat cancer and has yet to recover (now cancer-free) Victor S. Johnson Jr. - American lawyer and president of Aladdin industries. Turns 101 this year, but UK obit is unlikely. Anthony Loyd - Heroin loving British war correspondent. At only 40, might make for a good outside bet. Hassan Nasrallah - head of Hezbollah. Need I say more? (probably not as much in danger any more) Anita Roddick - Body Shop founder with cirrhosis of the liver caused by Hep C. Still seems to be doing fine though.

He was going to be a candidate on my DDP this year, but MH and I discussed him and we both sort of figured he wasn't all that poorly anyways. The last report I saw about him was from much earlier this year where he was said to be very active but having lung and breathing troubles. I'm still considering whether or not to add him next year.

    The Tenth 2007 Success Poll

brilliant CP, just a few mins after he died! Who's gonna be number 10? If the mods are going to change this into the tenth success poll to save us a thread, then I blew my vote. But I'd say either Ronnie Biggs given the evidence or Fidel Castro as a surprise candidate.

No it's Thursday going to be Friday man. It's a good night , a night for good people man. A night for good people man. Where situations interact. It's pleasant. I wish everybody could be naturally intoxicated. It would be a extravaganza. People would love one another, it would be the second coming of the world man. Life is to short to be uncertain. It's is to short to be undecided. Life is about appreciation and doing alright man. I hope your doing alright. I hope were all doing alright. We should all be alright. We should all be alright. Great, now I'll never be able to think of BS without thinking of this!

    The Canadian Paul Deadpool

Yes. With all due credit to her philanthropy, she is just a socialite, a very very rich socialite. I don't think that one point really changes much. If FF gets another hit it won't help you, if he doesn't, you're still ahead of him. If you want to do private queries by the way, you can also email the gmail account and I'll respond within a day (I check it daily now that I am accepting entires).

    The Canadian Paul Deadpool

Updated to reflect the death of Brooke Astor, putting Maryport in first place in the Theme Team category with half a month to go. I'm leaning towards The Independent as my second obituary source. Also, just one more vote before I can announce the bonus point winners for the Theme Teams.

    Greatest Deaths Ever

I hate to be Banshees Scream (no I really really hate it) but we can never be totally sure of anything. As far as historical proof goes, however, you can be pretty sure that Jesus was a historical figure and that he was executed by the Romans. The rest of the story is up to debate.

    Dead Drummers

Jazz drummer Max Roach, selected by two on the DDP, has died. Well done to the DL member who selected him, just in case they want to remain anonymous.

That I don't know much about it, therefore, given my information I feel that there's an equal chance that it could go either way. More seriously though, as I said above, he still does seem to be able to perform some of his duties (and he claims that all will be well of course), but on the other hand he hasn't exactly been getting out and about. He's not going on my CPDP, if that influences you or anyone else at all.
