No Wikipedia article though, which means one that sticks would have to be created. Oh dear. How about Barry Penner? He's suffering from a very rare form of cancer known as leiomyosarcoma - I don't think his prognosis is very good. I can't pick Poole or Penner for the CPDP - I'm boycotting cancer patients this year. Well so much for that secret candidate. Seriously though, I'd give him about a 50/50 shot. Last I heard he's still ill but he's well enough to be doing at least some of the duties required of his position.

And let's not forget that Rex Humbard is dying of congestive heart failure.

lol and tony bennett will go on forever also i guess...... Don't know about Tony Bennett. Tony Martin, on the other hand, hasn't been heard from for ages. Pegged him for my Dream Team, Frankie Laine died instead. Ah well. Martin turns 95 this year, might be one to check out. No health news though.

Linkletter and LaLane are healthy, as previously discussed. McCarthy I'm not 100% sure about, but he's pegged to film into 2008. Diller fractured her back, but is apparentely recovering quite well. In fact, you might be hard pressed to find four 90+ year olds that are as healthy and famous as these four.

Just for the record, you don't necessarily need a Canadian on your Theme Team. Also, the way you've phrased your team technically breaks the rules (subjectivity and verifiability) but I can rephrase it so that it does - so search on. By the way, I have a somewhat general question for all of you loyal subjects of the Queen. I want to include the New York Times in my list of acceptable obituary sources, since some of the more interesting and artsy people that wouldn't get a mainstream obit might have a better chance in that publication. So my question is, what is the closest that the UK's got to the New York Times in terms of a paper that's more likely to print obituaries of people who are significant, yet not mainstream?

Is there a list published somewhere? This one Thanks I wonder what's the Japanese secret for long life. Only letting the GRG to review their records every September. The correspondents are only allow to check the Japanese records once per year due to their privacy laws, so I'm told that a lot of the Japanese cases are likely already deceased - and some already are, they just usually wait until September to do the big update. now that is something I didn't know. so our Henry could be even higher up the list? Absolutely. Less than a week ago, Yasu Nishiyama was the 10th oldest person in the world according to the GRG. Then last week they found out that she died on October 31, 2006 and updated the list.

MPFC: I was a bit unsure at first, but Monoclinc clenched it for you. That one's going on my shortlist for the Monkey's next year. Yes, that would be fine and, if you are going to make a go of it, that will help me a lot if you win the Theme Team since people will know what your team is and won't pick (since you get first dibs). I also like Godot's suggestion about it too, just for the record, but you're obviously free to go either way. Mono: The rules aren't that complicated, it's basically one ordinary team and one theme team and you must have one Canadian on your ordinary team. The reason the rules are so extensive is because I try to make it so that there are no loopholes in the rules. I know many of the players are a clever bunch, so I have to spell it all out or risk someone gaining an unfair-fair advantage. When writing them, I kept thinking to myself "If I were Tempus Fugit and I were entering a Theme in this competition." Six: Nope, that post is enough I still have your file... er... on file. P.S. We miss you, come back. Rick: I like that idea. There's always a few candidates each year that everyone thinks is going to die and I say to myself "boy, they're way off base." Might be a bit of stretch, but I could probably come up with ten. Surely last year if this had existed, big points could have been scored by anyone who guessed that Harold Pinter would survive to the end of 2006.

In the non-hypothetical realm, Castro is a no show at his birthday. It should be noted, however, that he never really did big large appearances for his birthday (though he did usually appear somewhere). Make of it what you will, as always.

Your better bets are with Knievel or Biggs, either (or both) of whom could easily be dead over the course of August. My guess is that you'll end off with five or six for the year, good enough for 2007 hall of fame status. Thanks for the positive but I was on just 3 out of 10 for just about the whole year and hoping for even one more in these last four weeks is just as much to ask of the six "no-shows" now. Or Brooke Astor. Does the same job. Behold the power of positive thinking. Well done!

Mainly cos the whole idea of that particular deadpool was not to choose easy picks like ancient old biddies. I think it's also notable that none of the teams that selected her on DDP had her down as a joker pick. I'm guessing that most people had her down as a "20th person" or "low banker" pick - a strong, good pick, but not worth as many points as say the Iraqis or Messner etc. (Shamir was my 20th/low banker pick - he'd better die as Lady Bird Johnson, Astor, Bruce Bennett & Zahir Shah were all rejected in favour of him) Not to mention it puts him in first place in the Theme Team category too The votes are still coming in for the Theme Team bonus points, but I don't think FF will get them. So not only does Brooke Astor kick me out of the top ten on the DDP, but she causes headaches for my own pool. Still, MPFC is playing by the rules, so it's really all my fault for allowing the team in the first place. As has been discussed, however, it shall be verboten in future years. Nothing personal MPFC, just frustrated.

Brooke Astor has died at the age of 105. Well done Deathlist!

Meanwhile Brian Adams (no, not that one ) has been, like many wrestlers, found dead of unknown causes

I love it, not merely for the aesthetic improvement! Last night I was able to get into Deathlist chat for the first time since January, albeit in Internet Explorer instead of Firefox. Anyhow, I guess that's good news for me and bad for most others.

I'm too lazy to look it up, but I read an article about Lesh very recently that described him as having been cured of the prostate cancer in December. Or, at least as cured as one can get.

Thanks DDT, that helps me clear up some congestion! I've removed Cameron, Lama, Mkoma, Vercoe and, of course, Griffin from the list. If no one comments on them before the next time I have to update the list, I'll remove Byrne and Woodhall too, so speak now ye other Deathlisters or forever hold your peace. I rather like the way that turned out actually, so I think I'll do that each round from now on - list several names I'm considering removing and hearing if there's any objection. That way, it keeps this thread fresh. Edit: Rather than post-whore, I'll note here that I've removed Bill Walsh now too, thanks to FF's message.

The Weatherman Death Pool
Canadian Paul replied to weatherman90's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Your best bet is probably Evel Knievel... he's been pretty poorly lately. I was actually looking at all the lists earlier and figured that'd be your next one. Also, W90, since the little things bother me, Tony Wilson's name isn't struck out under TMIB's list. I'm a little OCD. -
It was put up there by an anonymous IP with no other edits except for listing Pavarotti as dead. There's no news hits, no breaking news on CNN or BBC, no mention on his website, not even a blog mention. Unless said IP happens to have some serious connections (such as works in the hospital where Pavarotti is staying), I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Updated one more. As I prepare to work with this list, I wonder if anyone has any news or updates on the following people. If not, I might remove them for fame and knowledge reasons. If nothing can be found on them within a month or so, I'm going to remove them, along with some others that I subjectively feel are doing better, to make the list more manageable the next time I edit it.

The Weatherman Death Pool
Canadian Paul replied to weatherman90's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Tony Wilson's death will boost TMIB to first place in the WDP. Congrats! -
Interesting dead pool pick, especially if Canadian Paul could be persuaded to add a Ukrainian bonus to the CPDP this year. A bonus point for Ukrainians and Canadians? That might be dangerous to my safety.

Most Significant Death For Every Year From 1963 To Present
Canadian Paul replied to chicago103's topic in DeathList Forum
Hey Harry - don't forget 1990 - Alydar; 2001 - Affirmed I had the biggest crush on Steve Cauthen when I was a young 'un.... Continuing on a tangent there have been some significant departures from the celebrity animal kingdom over the past five years. 2003 saw the death of Dolly the sheep, the first cloned mammal. Welshman will be pleased to know she has been mounted and put on display in Edinburgh. 2004 saw the death of the longest running cast member of Blue Peter, George the Tortoise. Every year they took him out of hibernation and proded him with cotton wool buds, should have called him Torture the Tortoise. 2006 saw the death of Humphrey the Downing Street cat who served under Thatcher, the grey one who like peas and Blair before Cheryl stuck her claws in and shipped him off to Brinsworth Cattery. 2002 - Buddy - Pres Bill Clinton's dog dies 2006 - Eddy - Dog in Fraiser dies 2007 - Barbaro (thusfar) - His death (and the circumstances around it) made headlines -
Not only that, his name is finally spelt right after 8 months!! And that, I fear, is about as exciting as this thread is going to get all year. Seems as if you were right OoO, as it is now his 88th birthday and there's been only one post in between.
