    Ideas and possibilities for 2008

According to his official website, he had a quick recovery and has been touring for months now. Won't remove him off the big list, since he's had poor luck since birth, but I'll amend it.

    Cheeta(h) the Chimpanzee(s)

Cheeta, the world's oldest chimp is still going strong but his would-be successor, Fifi, has died.

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries ,etc ...for 2007

Cleary I've stopped trying, but have a good one anyways Phantom - hell, it's Friday.

    The Living Dead

No such luck huh? To keep on the subject of the thread, while reading an Arnold Schwarzenegger biography this summer, I found out that Dino de Laurentiis had a hand in Conan the Barbarian, which puts him about a million steps ahead of Ingmar Bergman in terms of "interesting."

Re: The Windsor Thing I agree with you on the issue itself, if you're forced to resort to belittlements you've probably lost the argument already. He seems pretty childish for a 31 year old anyways. I also think that if you're making a political argument and you're writing like a 14 year old girl text messaging her friends to do it, you've probably lost at least in principle. I agree with Maddox on this one (see the section on elementary school drop outs).

    World War I Veteran(s)

CBC's The National had an interesting report on John F. Babcock last night. Some important things to note were that he lives in his own home with a much younger wife, he's witty with a fairly sharp mind and although he talks a little slowly, he looks about 10 times better than Charles Lane did at 100 (see the link in the Charles Lane thread). He's also well cared for by both his wife and, apparentely, the Prime Minister of Canada, who sent him a tie and cake for his 107th birthday. Overall he looks to be in his late 80s, early 90s, though it's hard to pin down. Definetely not looking his age though. I guess the bottom line is this - if you were thinking of picking him for your CPDP, don't be surprised if he makes the year. On the other hand, he is still 106, and if he does die, you can guarantee the requisite obit.

    Ingmar Bergman

This one's a few days late, but happy 89th birthday! Here's an article explaining (sort of) why health news on Bergman is scarce.

    The Dead - 2007

Jerry Hadley, mentioned in the I&P thread, is no more.

Who's Going To Be Around For A While?

Phyllis Diller. Turned 90, fractured her back, still as sharp and (almost) as hale as she ever was.

    Tammy Faye Messner

A new note from Tammy. Her weight is up a bit and she's lucid... quite an impressive fighter, I have to admit.

    Deathlist 2011

Thanks. Shoulda caught that one, seeing as how I scored points on Papon. I was thinking that nearer to the end of the year, I could take all the candidates and divide them into four categories for easy viewing: a) Famous Enough and Sick Enough Famous Enough but Risky c) Questionable Fame but Sick Enough and d) Questionable Fame and Risky. All of course would be subjective and subject to debate. Also, the post would contain only names and, if someone wanted to see the justification, they could go back to the first post. That way, it keeps it clean and organized and perhaps a quick reference for the DL Committee. If anyone has any better ideas though, let me know. Still plenty of time before I plan on doing this.

    Nancy Reagan

Nancy Reagan is in attendance at Lady Bird's funeral. Also present: the Carter Family and Barbara Bush. Strangely, no GHWB.

    Deathlist 2011

No, you've not listed anyone now dead, CP. Keep up the good work. Thanks, always helps to have another pair of eyes. Anyhow, the update is done. As always, anything regarding the addition or removal of people on the main list should be posted here, to remind me to update this more than once every month and a half.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2008

From the blog: Giuliano claims he's not dying and wonders if people will be disappointed if he doesn't. Obviously he would say that he's not but, as a priest, he would be more likely to be honest about it if he were. Make of it what you will.

    Derby Dead Pool 2007

As the DDP Boys have already noticed, British actor Peter Tuddenham has died, but that link is the only obit that he has gotten so far. If one does surface, it'll be a unique hit for The Harbringers of Condolence.

    Deathlist 2011

I've done the first of updating this list, pruning the dead branches off. Over the weekend, hopefully I can managed to do the second part, which is adding in the new foliage. If you happen to find any news that someone on the list is back to good health, or if I've missed someone who is already dead (as I suspect one or two of the lesser known names may be), let me know, this'll be a good time to get it sorted. While I'm at it, Rose Hacker is going to be placed in the Guiness Book of Records, vastly increasing her obit chances.

    Wishful Thinking Death List

Your wish just may be granted soon it seems... been awfully quiet on the Heston front lately...

The RDP was how I got into all this - got my first hit with Ronald Reagan back in '04, exciting back then as my join date was May 22. I agree with OoO somewhat though, it's awfully frustrating when you can't pick people like George Melly and Chandra Shekhar, ESPECIALLY since they added Shekhar AFTER he died. Otherwise I don't mind it though - Saberhagen would have never gotten me DDP points it seems, but I did score on the RDP. Each pool has its plusses and minuses. I'd agree that the DDP is the granddaddy of them all though.

    Derby Dead Pool 2007

Radio Broadcaster Stan Zemanek has died at the age of 60 from brain cancer. No UK obit yet, but it will mean 18 points for a unique joker for Going Underground if one surfaces. I looked at him for the WDP, but he was said to be getting better. Ah well, you win some, you lose some.

Updated to reflect the death of Lady Bird Johnson. Nothing too exciting really, Football Fan and I shuffle up the middle of the board a bit.

    Lee Hazlewood

Probably. But in my defense, I never claimed otherwise. Well yeah, but it's a lot easier when their tied up. I don't pretend to be a comedy genius, but here's a free comedy tip. If you can't laugh at yourself, it's difficult to make others laugh. Okay, I've had my little DL spat. Time to get back on topic - though the only news I suppose is that there is no news. Reminds me of Ross Davidson.

    The Fifth 2007 Success Poll

I'll press my luck from last round and say Lady Bird Johnson. No dream this time though.
