African Leaders - Despots and Democratic
Canadian Paul replied to Cowboy Ronnie's topic in DeathList Forum
Ah, bollocks, another "secret" candidate gone. Not really a despot, no - in fact, quite a nice chap. Indeed, CP, Mr Mamo is the oldest ex-leader around now... You too huh? I was going to include him on my WDP, but I was afraid that he wasn't alive ala J. Leonard Reinsch, who was picked by a host of people on the RDP, and then was subsequently discovered to have died in 1991. Figured that if it could happen to a White House Press Secretary, an ancient Somali head of state could have slipped under the radar as well. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof as Carl Sagan. -
Sorry DDT. And I even spelled his name right too. I hardly blame you though, since the previous page on this thread is full of sh*t, I'm not surprised that you missed it.

I'm not sure if he counts as a despot or not, but Aden Abdullah Osman Daar, the first president of Somalia and the world's oldest former head of state has died. I believe that gives Sir Anthony Mamo the new crown. -
French Nobel Physics laureate Pierre-Gilles de Gennes is dead at 74.

Google is your friend MPFC. They usually settle out of court and/or say that they heard it "from a source" that usually ends up being protected.

Not that big of a coincidence, but interesting if this is your thing. Canadian MP Hugh Hanrahan of the Edmonton-Strathcona electoral district died on May 19, 1999 of an acute stomach infection. Eight years later, on May 19, 2007, his predecessor Scott Thorkelson died suddenly of a heart attack at age 49. Guess it's really just the dates.

Didn't know if this was the best thread for it, but Australian racer Jack Findlay has died. An Isle of Man TT Champion after 15 years of trying, sez Wikipedia.

Looks like he might go the same way as Papon, Valenti, Spelling, Pinochet etc. etc. Might be good to punt out Snow on my list and replace him with Diddley for the upcoming RDP.

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries ,etc ...for 2007

Happy belated OSP! Apologies, I would have wished you well on the actual date, but you can rest assured that I was taking more than one shot last night in your honour! -
Erm... not quite. Gladys Powers is a British veteran living in Canada. John Babcock, the last Canadian veteran, is a Canadian vet living in U.S.A. Confusing the matter is the fact Gladys actually holds Canadian citizenship, so she's a Canadian veteran in one sense, but given the force that she actually served in, she isn't technically. Somewhat less confusing than that is the apparent fact that Italy lost another - Pasquale Costanzo - though I can't find the article that proves this.

Bugger, I thought I'd removed him already. I'm sure there's a joke about being harder to remove than one of Fieger's brain tumours, but I'll keep this thread in good taste. Hill gone now, Fieger looks like he might be worth watching.

Happy birthday NAP! For your birthday, let me introduce you to this chap here, apparently the anti-potato warrior: -
Farewell to Falwell Yes, I know the article says that he's only in "gravely serious" condition, but the breaking news headline says that he just died.
-
Diagnosis very clear: dead
-
Article about Nguema, chronicling past, present and future. Most significantly: Obviously to be taken with a grain of salt, but interesting nonetheless.
-
Erm... not quite... trust Wikipedia at your leisure, but I believe the introduction sums up Deism well (in so much as a religion can be summed up succinctly): Your interpretation of Deism is as accurate as bin Laden's interpretation of the Koran.

Apparently, Lane narrated a version of "The Night Before Christmas" in 2006. I searched YouTube to see if I could find the video, but to no avail. I did, however, find the video of his . Maybe not the Ruby Muhammad of the acting world, but more lucid and active than a lot of 80-90 year olds methinks.

I updated the site, as it appears that she's not going to get an proper team obit, but I'm not going to bother to send out an email until someone who actually scores points dies. Sending a note that says "Hey everyone, someone died but it changes nothing" is tantamount to spam really. Can't say I'm unhappy about removing that gigantic John Inman picture from the front page though.
-
Still able to perform, according to this. Still very unwell. Anyhow, updated after over a month of stagnation.
-
For what it's worth, Merritt was released from hospital a while back.
-
For those of you willing to venture beyond the note, there's a video ion her main site, apparently from May 9, where she gives a phone interview to a friend. Didn't watch the whole thing, but she sounds better than I thought a 60-odd-pound woman who's dying of cancer would.

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, etc. Unless they're trapped inside.

Well, some say he's doing poorly, others say he'll be around for fall 2008. It'll probably be more useful news when they tell him, and whether he accepts or declines the chance to receive the award in person.

Whenever the mods deem that it's time for a change. I believe W90 found out that they're more clever than us young'uns when it comes to that sort of thing.

Facebook is addictive because it's a great procrastination tool. It's slightly more interesting to read useless trivia about people that you rarely talk to than to do actual school work. I've noticed that, during my quarter off, I rarely feel the urge to log in. Grad school will be another matter entirely I wager.
