One Polish veteran has died (or so that's what they tell me that article means) and rumour has it that another one on the Wiki list died ages ago...
-
Comic strip creator Johnny Hart, famous for B.C. and The Wizard of Id, has died. Didn't see that one coming.
-
Emma Bodie Begay, one of the United States' oldest longevity claimants, has died at the claimed age of 119.

Happy belated CR! -
I really hate it when people link to registration screens. Wonder if I've ever done it? Sorry. I forgot that I can access registration links under a UCSD proxy. Here's the article:
-
Director Bob Clark, best known for classics such as "A Christmas Story" and "Porky's" has met his end in a car crash.
-
Happy 87th birthday! No recent news though.
-
hows Derryn doing then. did he have that Op? No clue. Not so much as a blog mention since that article. Risky for sure, but worth it in my mind.
-
Dead now.

Here's the skinny on the two candidates on my new WDP that haven't been mentioned yet: Lobby Loyde, former Rose Tattoo guitarist, has terminal lung cancer. It was reported on heavily when Thorpe died earlier, but most of those articles have disappeared now. Derryn Hinch, meanwhile, while having surgery to remove a brain tumor, is also having a growth on his liver looked at, which is in addition to his advanced cirrhosis. Most tellingly of all, Hinch claims he'll top himself if the pain becomes too great, hence the reason I asked if the suicide bonus still applied. No news on him since then.

Thank you all. I can't remember the last time I won anything competitive, so I'm in a rare good mood today. Congrats to OMG for their first hit of the year! I'm old news now. -

I sent you mine, along with a substitute for when Tammy Faye inevitably carks it later today. -
Britney Spears, Kerry Katona, Heather Locklear et al.

Point well made CP. But Seinfeld might not be the best example cos I can't help but notice the brilliance of the writing AND of the acting. There's not many shows where that happens. Agreed. Not to mention that Larry David is very well known for other things, I really need to start watching Curb Your Enthusiasm. I wonder how Britney feels having her thread hijacked, just like she hijacks legitimate news. -
In all fairness, Assadullah Sarwari and Shoko Asahara will probably get obits, if they get executed this year. Mumia might too, but I thought his death sentence was overturned... If no one else died, NNIGN could probably take the whole game.

Billy Graham to attend inauguration of the Billy Graham Library. Sounds like his wife is doing far worse than he is, although they have to limit the amount of people at the event due to Billy's health concerns. Also of minor note, I wonder why Jimmy Carter isn't attending?

Forgive me if this has been posted already, as it's difficult to wade through all the above crap, but Chavez to Castro: You Can't Die. All this despite the fact that Castro was ready and willing to go:

Detoriating Fast Don't think he'll be around for 2008 DDP/DL consideration but he's worth thinking about for WDP etc. Successful surgery, prognosis good and recovering rapidly. Obviously to be taken with a grain of salt, since it's all from the same source, but he looks like he might be alright yet. Would actually be helpful for me, since I've narrowed my WDP candidates down to 11 for the 10 spots, so this could tip the balance...

There's a blog mention somewhere, that he will be visiting two literary events in Sri Lanka in the first few months of 2007. Ah here we are:- http://nazreen.wordpress.com/2006/11/20/pr...galle-lit-fest/ There are pictures of Clarke at that event under "Day 4" - looks to be doing fairly well given his circumstances.

...which, according to the article, happenned earlier today. Yet to see an actual obituary, however. Presto!

Didn't Wake Up This Morning...

Good spot Starch; stabbed by a girl, hit by a train, still giggin' at 91, the man was born to play the blues! Do any of our readers live near enough Austin to check out one of his sessions? I will be starting August. "Music scene" capital of the world and all that, I'm sure I'll get a chance to stop by. UT? Not Cambridge? Not the University of Kuala Lumpur? Not Moscow Community College? Not Brazil during Carnivale? UT? You have GOT to be kidding me...... Somehow, UT manages to have one of the best Middle East Studies in the nation, a certainly the best in a public school. One of my friends explained it as "know your enemy." Now I feel like crap though after I got myself all psyched up to go there. Thanks a lot mom! The rejection from Moscow Community College stings so much now... Meanwhile, to stay on topic, Honeyboy Edwards is apparently hale enough to perform this May. -

I'm hoping I've managed the most odd "Team Theme" of the lot too. My theme is "The picks are all unique picks" Wow, great minds think alike huh? I was thinking of doing that too, 'cept I realized that the near-certain deaths of Lee Hazlewood and Tammy Faye (if, God willing, she makes it to April 1) would be worth more than the Theme Team bonus. My entry will be a game time decision. With Tony Snow and Jack Valenti lining up in just the past 24 hours, I'll need all the info that I can get before I submit. And yes W90, you did put the "multiple entries disallowed" in the rules. I was also thinking about doing one of each kind. -
That seems to be every day around here lately - I went to an old thread to grab something and noticed that M. Busby's signature makes reference to Windsor the Troll being Ian Huntley's bitch, or something along those lines - and he hasn't been on since early January!
-
It's on my to-do list. I forgot to install Photoshop on my new computer. Hopefully I'll get to it later today and I can play around with it. For now I'll try out Captain Oates - the man lives on Tatooine, I'm sure it's not totally out of the realm of possibility that he could be glowing.

Happy Birthday BHB! What I said last year still stands I think!
