Forgot to mention, site updated for the death of al-Tikriti. MPFC's discussion of an animal theme team got me thinking. Since animals are allowed on the CPDP, the age limits wouldn't quite correlate. Many cats, dogs, horses etc. can live full lives before the age of 15. An 85-year old tortoise, on the other hand, is practically a spring chicken. Thinking ahead, I'm not sure if the best solution would be to ignore the age penalties for animals, or to re-calibrate them in the case of animals. For cats and dogs, there are online calculators, so that wouldn't be too much of an issue. I'd imagine a creature like a chimp or a tortoise would pose more of a subjective problem. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Dare I ask from which thread this was removed? I'm curious to know where ttoothh ended up when s/he was "test the internet". If I'm not mistaken, it was in its own thread, one that Hein merged.

Here's Wikipedia's list of execution methods. I suppose boiling to death and, to a certain extent, marooning are a sort of watery death. Keelhauling can drown the victim if it's done slowly.

Seen Any Good Films Lately?

I was watching that last night too, in between other things, and was quite surprised how well put together it was. I'll second the recommendation, for those of you who get the History Channel. Oh, and for the drunken college boy in you, I always recommend Snakes on a Plane. -
I only picked Barzan al-Tikriti, and I don't feel at all bad for several reasons. 1. I knew who he was before he was sentenced to death. 2. I didn't pick al-Bandar nor a certain cancer-stricken 16 year old. 3. I am destined for mid-table obscurity with or without him on my list, and I will be tipping my hat when a person who selected none of the above three won. 4. After Sadaam's execution, the other ones were not in any way a sure thing (according to CNN, even the two who were executed were surprised). 5. After No Noose is Good News picked only execution victims, I'd have to personally shoot someone on my list to feel like a bigger cheater. Because I'm sure that you all care and that you're all open-minded deadpoolers who will accept other people's opinions and would never bring oneself down to the level of using racial slurs when not winning an argument.

For those of you interested in, you know, Stephen Hawking, I saw a documentary on TV yesterday called "Last Days on Earth" where scientists count down the top seven ways that humans could be wiped out, a darling mix of "blame nature" and "blame ourselves." Anyhow, Steven Hawking was interviewed on the validity of each way, but segment had to be pre-taped because he had to blink out the answers which, presumably, takes a fair amount of time when you're discussing topics such as astrophysics. He's a lot worse than the last time I saw him, and he was pretty bad then. I'd say in a year or two he may be worth a punt.

That is definitely good news!!! It appears that it is true, as per the AP story. Looks like I got my joker this year!

The CNN crawler is reporting that the other two have been hanged. No link yet though.

Depends, of course, if the Guardian continues to keep up http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/stor...6334546,00.html Two for two so far, it would seem.

Blah blah police chase blah blah.
-
Well if they did, they have the points The Guardian newspaper - 1st at reporting the most obscure deaths imaginable Not a Guardian obit just another AP feed. Will the DDP boys count it though? If so, the Guardian will make me rethink my strategy for 2008.

Strikes in Guinea, partly over Conte's ailing health.

Castro recovering well according to son. Seems very Baghdad Bob to me. "Iraq is not under attack. The Americans are fleeing the street. Saddam is still in power. He has not been executed."
-
Well, on that note, Stewart Udall breaks his leg, but is in "excellent health" Drat. He's on my HDP team. Anyhow, I'll nix him off the list.
-
I mentioned him last year, but most certainly didn't put him on my DDP. Secret Santa Larry Stewart dead. I wonder if anyone did? Might be interesting to see if he pulls a Laurel Hester. EDIT: It appears that a few chose him for Handrejka's pool, which I again forgot to enter...

Nice spot MH. I get the feeling that, once caught, she'll suddenly be struck down with a host of health problems ala Pinochet...

Things To Do While Waiting For Death... 2007
Canadian Paul replied to football_fan's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
19/20. Missed one I'd never heard of. The Brits on this site should all get 20/20. -
I had hoped this topic would live for a while. Yuck. regards, Hein I was hoping he'd live until about April, when he wouldn't need a proper obit for the WDP. In any case, I think he deserves an exclamation point near his name. [Done -- MH]

Now he's a near miss.

Well, with Robert Anton Wilson dead, it waits to be seen if he'll get a UK obit. The main reason I didn't put him on my DDP was because I thought he was too obscure. In other words, don't worry MIB, it'll be there soon enough. Except for Ruth Bernhard, unless my page isn't refreshing properly, which I think it's not, because I've been told Bezzerides is on the front page...

OK, I think I've compiled all the reasonable choices from the past list plus anyone who's been mention in the I&P Thread, People I Was Surprised etc. etc. Hopefully, if we hear news about any of these candidates that don't have their own thread, then we can post that news here and, if the mods deem it worthy of a new thread (like Robert Anton Wilson), then the posts can be moved. Hopefully this will avoid the starting of threads along the vein of "Tom Poston has cancer." "Ooooh, he looks like a good bet." "He just died" etc. with nothing much to offer. I'll be watching the threads and adding anyone worth adding to this list. If you happen to notice that someone is no longer a good candidate (ie. Tom Poston has been cured of cancer and is now eating locomotives for breakfast), let me know too. It's a tough balance to keep the list manageable, while also including the largest range of good candidates. I think it'll be useful for the WDP come March/April, since we can pick anyone with a wikipedia page.

Site updated to reflect the death of Yvonne De Carlo. She was a Canadian, so bonus points will be given if Boys and Girls Come Out to Play or Madame Defarge Death Barge have another Canadian hit.
-
Talabani seeks to delay the executions. I was going to castigate for you reposting again, but apparently yours is the third to go that way. If things keep going on like this, we'll need a whole thread for these.

It's appearing in blogs, but we saw what happened with that and Khamenei. So much for my self-imposed DL break. And now a new status dons on me, one that is very appropriate given recent events in my life. "Dons" on you? You've become Italian? Cugino benvenuto! And tortalini to you too! Anyhow, here's a de Carlo obit, proving she is dead, but of course not sufficient yet for the CPDP or the DDP. Not that I don't think she'll get one soon enough anyways. EDIT: CNN on TV just announced it, which means it'll likely pop up there, and on a million Canadian papers, very soon.
