Well today is the funeral for Michael Mayne. I'd guess that if the Beeb doesn't cover it today, most likely all hope for an obit will be lost. Also, I'll be away until Sunday night, which will be Monday morning for all you in the UK, so if someone on the CPDP dies while I'm out, don't expect an update until then.

    Poll: 2007 Deathlist Names

I'll second that, especially since I have him on my DDP list this year. Can't beat the power of positive thinking. He's been on the DL before if I'm not mistaken, so it wouldn't be unprecedented.

    Poll : 2007 Deathlist Names

I don't think that's a rule, given the amount of times some people have been on the DL. Mind you, none of those are deffo keeps, though Neimeyer and Wyman are definetely worth considering.

    Poll: 2007 Deathlist Names

I voted for Alfredo di Stefano. He was a gamble that didn't pay off, and I don't think that there's any reason anymore for him to be on the list. Narrowing it down to only 4 total that I would remove was tough, but here's my list: Milton Friedman Dino de Laurentiis Ingmar Bergman Alfredo di Stefano They're all selected on the basis of being the most a) healthy and boring candidates out of the above. Albert Hofmann might be worthy of removal too, if we're taking into consideration the complaints about how many centenarians we had on this year's list.

    Poll : 2007 Deathlist Names

I voted for Oscar for three reasons: 1) He's the oldest on that list 2) With the caveat being that his fall was as serious as reported, he's probably the frailest on the list (though he was still working right up before that I admit) 3) Can't miss out on the commie ranter, makes the thread thoroughly fun, what with the squid and all. If I had to round off the top 3 from your list it would be Kirk Douglas and Muhammad Ali, because they're the only others on the list who are noticibly unhealthy and they also both happen to be interesting conversation pieces. Jane Wyman would be a close fourth. I hope this isn't too early... I'd hate to see it buried come December.

    Ted "Double Duty' Radcliffe

He already got a mention. You really do have me on ignore don't you? Apologies CP! How very rude of me. Unfortunately, I did do a search, but as the name hadn't been included in the post it did not find it so I assumed I had a scoop. I will make it up to you when I come over to Canada. Is there anything I can bring from the UK as a token gift? Marmite? Jaffa Cakes? Terry Wogan (please, please take him!)? It's OK, I should really stop trying to do clever links anyhow. As for the "best of Britain," I already bought a copy of "The Thin Blue Line" on DVD, I've done my part. Keep yer Terry Wogan.

That's actually not such a bad idea - at least maybe the first way to resolve a tie could be how many Canadians you have on your team. Most people only have one though, so there'd definetely need to be backup strategies, but I like that as a starting point. Boy, you'd be kicking yourself for dropping Lara Roxx in favour of Mayne though MPFC. Site updated as of yesterday of course too.

Speculate no more. I still think he's got a bit of life left in him, but time to start watching him methinks.

    Near misses 2006

Why can't we have just one DL death where someone doesn't post it on Near Misses?

    Phil Lesh

If he does go, it'll be a welcome surprise for Slave to the Grave who picked him for her Theme Team, ostensibly without knowing that he had prostate cancer. Or did she...

Actually, just points for you, which actually puts you on top of the Theme Team race with 5 points OoO. (He was on TF's old Theme Team, I forgot to remove him from the page). No indication that the means of his death fit into bonus or penalty land at the moment though. I've also noticed that there's no way to resolve a tie in score in my rules. I'll have to think of a way to revise those soon too. EDIT: Turns out he died of a heart attack, which means he was actually worth 6 points for you OoO.

Poll - Number 10 - Who Will It Be?

I think ol' Heston has been hanging on for far too long now.

    PW Botha

Hmmm... and to think that yesterday I was musing whether or not to predict that DL would have another hit by the end of the month... Anyhow, well done DL! Let the cold November and December set in! This means you Pinter...

    World's Oldest

I hope the old chap gets a bit of acclaim now that he's been rediscovered. I wonder if he'd get a UK obituary, unfortunately I kind of doubt it, otherwise he'd be an excellent DDP pick. Not for 2007 it would seem. Dead now.

    Abdul Qadeer Khan

His condition has deteriorated, now he's got deep vein thrombosis. Hmm... I expected that he'd be fine when I first posted the link, but if he's getting complications (especially ones that could very easily prove lethal), then he's definetely one to check up on closer to the end of the year. I worry that he may be one of those cases where he'll either be dead before 2007 or cured by then though...

    Richard Widmark

Since this thread has been revived anyhow, I'd like to make a quick link to an old post from OoO that claimed that Widmark was doing poorly as of late. I wouldn't my unbridled optimism from earlier in this thread to come back and bite me in the ass - I think he'd make a good candidate for DL '07 (and an interesting one too...)

    A Tale Of Two Guineas

Yes, I've become a bit suspicious myself as of late. I think Conte is the one to be watching as far as African leaders go - hardly a day passes by in the news without some mention of his critical health and what will happen in the country once he dies.

    Derby Dead Pool 2006

RA - That site sounds to me like a college fraternity. You pay money to do something with an exclusive crowd that thousands of other people are doing for free and probably having more fun with it. In the end, there's no tangible reward either. Hell, at least with a frat you get sorority girls. Edit: Before any frat boys among you point out the irony of me discussing how much fun I have at parties while posting at 9:00 at night, the party is at 10:00, so don't bother pointing it out.

    The Canadian Paul Deadpool

True. If they put a clip on the site and I'm able to verify it (ie. if it's not live, if I can actually replay it as much as I want), that will count just fine. My aim is not to be a jerk and deny points, just to dissuade people from picking the Laurel Hesters of the world. Good luck with Hughes and Bowman though.

    The Canadian Paul Deadpool

I'd also like to point out that the reason that I made the obituary requirements for the ordinary team so harsh was specifically to minimize the amount of dying nobodies *coughLaurelHestercough* picked. Methinks, MPFC, that you're also going to have a bit of trouble scraping by an obit for John Bowman who, by the way, still hasn't met the "wikipedia page or 3 friends" criteria.

    Are You A Post Whore?

I won't take your bait for me to act immaturely and thus prove you right. When it comes down to it, this is the point: DeathList is supposed to be fun for everyone. By constantly bitching, you ruin the fun. End of story.

    Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries Etc...2006

Happy birthday VT!. Perhaps some birthday sexiness? OK, I know you're not a guy, but I never miss a chance to post one of Charlie's Angels. Besides, your other option was this: Then again, he does have a youthful visage I suppose...

    Are You A Post Whore?

Here's a fun task - go back and check SC's posting history and see if you can find the last time he posted something relevant to the subject of this site. The answer may surprise you! (But probably not).
