Where Have All The Ranters Gone?
Canadian Paul replied to Paul Bearer's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
The thread was closed for a while to deter one of the ranters who repeatedly posted personal information. I've reopened it, but it will be closed again if something like that happens again. regards, Hein It should have been closed after Football Fan's response (this one) which was both eloquent and well-reasoned. I've yet to see a ranter attempt to attack his post, because I'd imagine there's not much you can say against it. The rest of the posts have been from abusive, shallow-minded individuals driven by a societal pulse that tells them how to feel when a young person with a family dies. Newsflash: Hundreds of people with families and young children die every week. Most don't have millions of dollars (or pounds, whatever) to leave to their families after they die. Granted, it's not the nicest thing to do to make fun of a family who's lost someone, but if you'll pay careful attention, most of the actual members had very respectful comments. I'm sorry he's dead too, but if you can't accept that everyone dies, and that sometime life isn't fair to you, you're going to have a lot of trouble. I don't post on this site because it gets me off to discuss death and dying celebrities, I do it because it helps me deal with a reality that everyone must face but that, for some reason, no one seems to want to talk about. If this site makes it easier for me to deal with the grief and pain that I have experienced and will experience at the hands of death, and if it helps other people as well, then it may very well be one of the most helpful sites on the internet, albeit with a huge lot of controversy. Anyhow, I recommend increasing the date stamp on FF's post by 24 hours and closing the thread. People driven by emotions have no desire to listen to reason. -
Bruno, I had a disturbing dream the other night wherein your avatar was chasing me down the rain soaked streets of New York, trying to successfully pull off a hit on me for killing members of your mafia. Now every time I see it, I shudder. Also, I just noticed some mod decided to get clever with my sig.

Things To Do While Waiting For Death... 2006
Canadian Paul replied to honez's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I remember some Second World War bubble gum cards with very similar artwork (if you can call it that) depicting war time scenes. I think they were called battle cards. Imagine kiddies in the junior school playground swapping gory scenes of beheadings, people being shot by firing squad and various other bloodthirsty episodes. Yes they did make the Sunday papers (but not before I got my full set) in stories alleging that they would produce maladjusted adults obsessed with death. How wrong they were. Couldn't find the World War II ones, but I did find something similar issued by tops - Civil War News. A little bit more research uncovered a guy who supposedly has a collection called "Battle!" which looks like what you may be talking about, but bugger if his links work (except for Dinosaurs Attack!, which allows you to view the whole collection). The artist for all of these, by the way, was Norman Saunders. -

Relive the glory (and the gory) of Dinosaurs Attack! -
And here's the inevitable Cuban response and denial.

For those of you interested, reports say that Castro is dying of cancer. It's interesting to read, but I think it's full of sh*t like all the other times the U.S. said he was dying. His hospitalization just adds a bit of credence to the theory this time.

I was born three days before the Challenger explosion, which was televised. Does that count?

Ailing Fender transferred to a different hospital. Now he's got a blod infection as well and, if you choose to believe Wikipedia, his body is rejecting his new liver as well. You'd think at this point it'd be better for the family to get past the "denial" phase of his death and make their lives a whole lot easier when he does go by moving into the "acceptance" phase...

Well I wouldn't have had the urge to start a Deadpool if it hadn't been for DL. It's not like I came here looking for participants. I'd been reading a lot about how Deadpools seemed to lacked style, and I thought it might be an interesting idea to create one that was (somewhat) based around the concept. No one had to join, and it's not like I'm really gaining anything from having a larger base to work from except for like... more work...

Ah good, I'm glad someone went through and caught the errors... my eyes sort of glaze over when I do a lot at once... Mayne, Graham, Thatcher and Carr have all been fixed, along with Bertrand thank you MPFC. You're right about Smith Jones too TF, a slight oversight on my part. As for Muhammad, I think of it this way. I'm really famous for my position on Student Council, but there's no reason for anyone outside of that realm to have heard of me. Same with Muhammad, except that people have heard of her purely on the virtue that she's really old. If she didn't happen to live a long time, no one would have ever heard of her outside of the Nation of Islam. Hell, they even had to cook up the story that she was the widow of the founder just to make her interesting. So I'd say famous for being famous. Nothing differentiates Mirza Hussain from a million other prisoners save for the fact that occassionally a news story pops up on the BBC about his predicament. Once he's dead, his cause dies with him, and you can see from the fact that the only time he's mentioned in the news is when he's just about to be executed that not too many care now. Chan is probably less heard of on this side of the globe, but his case is far more important - a foreigner who ran one of the largest drug smuggling operations in the history of Indonesia - not to mention the interesting angles to the story. Admittedly though, it is a point of contention. If he wasn't the leader, I'd certainly dock him the point. I'm open to well-reasoned argument though, so if you want to make one, I will consider it, since that was one of the borderline cases for me. Also, if you want to argue that I should get an extra point for Mirza Hussain, I'll be very open to that too MPFC - The skill and time came from me, but also from TF who saved me a day or two of work by fixing the John Inman issue. Your kudos should go to him. Bald Rick - I do see your point, and I won't make a big scene if the mods agreed with you. My thought was, though, that once all the bugs have been worked out of the site, this thread will be like the HDP, WDP or DDP one - only rising when a death occurs. Otherwise, it'll sink out of view. Plus, there are a lot of threads out there started once the person has already died - if they've already died, the thread doesn't serve much purpose, but those are kept anyhow. As for the blue on black text - I've received a few mentions that it doesn't work for people... people have suggested changing it to yellow, which is most likely what I'll do. Thank you for the kudos though all. With Fender being rushed to hospital today, I'm hoping we can start off the CPDP with a bang soon.

I had two unique picks... I had to decide between them, ended up picking June Havoc since she was more famous. Wonder if you had the other one... Anyhow, The Hall of Candidates is finally up. Now I'm really tired, so it's very much bed time.

Gone now. Boy, never felt so good to be so wrong. -
This has nothing to with suicide, but I just thought it was really eerie since last night I had a dream where you and Hugh Laurie teamed up and killed Stephen Fry MPFC... then as this odd coincidence you post a message about him here... Plans for future MPFC? I doubt, by the way, that anything will come of the dream. It gave his year of birth as 1857 and his date of death as January 19, 1919.

I don't think so BS, sorry. That would require me redoing all of the 213 profiles that I have up there now to include any unique picks that you decide on. Not only that, but you can easily un-unique someone's good pick, not to mention that news has surfaced about the illnesses of several people (Louis Farkshisname comes to mind) that would give you a bit of an unfair knowledge base in the competition. Sorry BS, but next year is less than a year away. Anyhow, those 213 profiles now encompass all people with last names between A and R inclusive. At most, it'll be another 6 days before I get the rest of the profiles up, but it'll more likely be closer to 3 ("S" on one day, "T and U" on the next, "V, W and Y" on the last if I go according to my plan). Then I'll be done and I can coast through the rest of the game only updating when death occurs. Apparentely Vince Neil appeared in a much publicized sex tape, which isn't surprising but does raise the question as to which, if any, Motley Crue members haven't made a sex tape. Worth +2 porn points in any case. Also worth noting, I mistakenly left off Tom Petty in "The Simpsons" category, which means he's worth +2 Cartoon Bonus points instead of just +1. There, that about does it I think. Hopefully you'll join too next year ie+, but thanks for the compliment anyhow.

Whoever first posts news of his death HAS to post it with the heading "I guess we can take the gun now..." There's some discrepency as to whether or not his birthday is 1923 to 1924. He claims it's 1923, but seeing as how *insert Alzheimer's joke in poor taste*, I think we should take his opinion with a little more than a grain of salt.

VSB from H beat you to it

My vote would go to a story-telling thread. Person A starts a story, person B adds something and so on and so on. Might break some of the tension.
-
George Michael perhaps? Thought he had his own thread, but guess not.

Looks like you have to wait about a month, CP Looks like he's still on the chopping block though, which means eventually I should get my points. The air of uncertainty is no different from that of a terminal cancer patient really. All 32 M names have joined the Hall of Candidates, which means I'm almost at 200 names up there.
