Did a little bit of research on an interesting figure - Tsien Hsue-shen, Father of Chinese Rocketry. I'll spare you all the controversy and such, but he's 94 going-on 95 this year and apparentely not in good health, confined to a hospital and according to this (somewhat) older article "ailing" since 2003. Obit extremely likely due to, among other things, his role in China's Space Program and communist fears in America. At the very least, a much more interesting figure than say, Ingmar Bergman or Ernest Gallo, since he's not only more likely to cark it, but also because there's plenty of controversy surrounding his person.

Earlier I brought up the question of whether or not Gallo would be famous enough based on the fact that he lacked even a Wikipedia page. Well it turns out that I must humble myself, because I was wrong: Imminent Ernest Gallo. The most exciting person since Ingmar Bergman. Also, here's a link with a bit more information about Phantom's trivia: Breaking

And just what makes you so sure that those aren't pictures of myself that I posted on the forum? -
Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries Etc...2006
Canadian Paul replied to Tuber Mirum's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
You're the birthday girl, so how about one of each? For the record, none of the males are in "collection" of mine. -
Nah CP, a mark or two for effort but ultimately not very convincing. Why not admit that you chipped in without thinking or checking or even working out where your sentence started. I didn't feel insulted and wouldn't care anyway. Your sensitivity meter is off the clock again, not for the first time. No need to be scared of other Deathlisters. Old Star Crossed is a kitten (or three). Your intention was not to be pedantic? That's disingenuous. There was pedantry all over that post and it backfired. Pure cant. If I was trying to be pedantic, I'dve used some of the big GRE words I've been studying and I'd not have qualified by statement with "If I'm not mistaken," I'dve asserted myself more strongly and, in order to do that, would have gone and done the research first. I apologize if it came off pedantic, but it's pointless to discuss further. One's intentions are nearly always invisible, especially over the internet. I learned this summer that I'm a nerd first, a drunk second and a pedant third, so I can't be overly surprised if the occassional (or perhaps frequent) comment comes off as pedantic, but I try and restrain myself to the first two on DL if at all possible.

If I'm not mistaken though, the Darwin Awards imply that you don't have any progeny (thus removing your genes from the pool so that your stupidity doesn't survive the adaptation process or something that I lost track of while writing this run-on sentence). I made a similar remark in the Interesting ways topic. I had a look and I was wrong. regards, Hein Thankyou MH. I had chosen not to dignify CP's attempt at pedantry with a response since he qualified his remark with "if I'm not mistaken", always a sign of one who can't be bothered to check. A quick Google would have avoided the whole sorry intervention. Or perhaps because I'd rather have happen, as turned out to be the case, that someone who already knew the answer would post it for the benefit of all. If I were to look it up on google and post it here without an instigation, no doubt I would get accusations from Star Crossed about post whoring and posting irrelevant information, so it was very much damned if you do damned if you don't. My intention was not to insult nor be pedantic although. If you took it as an attack Godot, that's not my fault. I'll thank you not to insult me and shall expect an apology.

Looks like we're not the only ones expecting Pinter to go soon: Celebration of Pinter's life Harold Pinter week No health news though. Though I plan on doing a "before DL, after DL" comparison of my 2006 and 2007 DDP teams, I'd prefer to see my joker on the up and out.

Whom Are You Tarring With The Epithet "twunt"?
Canadian Paul replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
OoO, supreme poster, passed by 1000 during my short DL break. There must be sexy celebrations, and I've chosen a contentious, yet attractive choice to celebrate: More sexiness to come, but I wonder, who is OoO's favourite sexy celeb? I am listening to The Beatles' "Octopus's Garden," if that makes you feel any better. -
Mark Felt too ill to travel to court. Got on my RDP, sounds like he might last long enough to get to DDP 2007, but perhaps not much further than that. Of course, he could be taking a cue from Ronnie Biggs...

Some recent deaths got me thinking about some Ideas and Possibilities that I researched while in airports yesterday. Earlier this year Elden Auker, the last pitcher to face Babe Ruth, died at age 95. I thought that might have been the last link to Ruth, but it turns out that he has one teammate left: Billy Werber. He's not known to be sick, but he is ancient. In fact, he's the third oldest living major-league baseball player, the oldest living World Series player and the oldest living former player for both the Yankees and the Red Sox. None of this, of course, guarantees him a UK obit, but the Babe Ruth link could certainly help. Also, with the recent death of Glenn Ford, I was reminded of the man I almost picked in his stead: Van Johnson. Aged 90, and not known to be in particularly bad health but did have a bout of skin cancer and, interestingly enough, has a metal plate. An obit is fairly likely in the UK, but by no means guaranteed. Also, for those risk takers among you, German actress Mady Rahl, the last surviving UFA actress, is nearly blind and suffering from dementia according to Wikipedia (not credible) and IMDB (not much better, but could be worse). Perhaps someone who speaks the language would be better equipped to search for confirmation of this news. Wouldn't know if she'd get an obit, but sounds in poor health.

Ideas & Possibilities - The Names
Canadian Paul replied to Octopus of Odstock's topic in DeathList Forum
Not that I trust Wikipedia for shite, but somewhere someone mentioned that actress Suzanne Pleshette had lung cancer, a claim which is backed up by many a reputible news source. According to the 'pedia, there was an article in The Globe claiming that Pleshette's cancer had spread and her husband Tom Poston (who happens to be an actor I enjoy) is also suffering from cancer: Wiki. The change was made by a credible Wiki user, so it may not be total bullshite, but if anyone has access to the Globe, perhaps they can verify it, since a GNS didn't turn up anything for me. Wouldn't have posted it unless I thought it was worth looking into perhaps, and because I enjoy Poston's performances. Plus it doesn't hurt to bump this thread up a bit to make life a bit easier for poor OoO, who's constantly updating this excellent list. -

LG, my informants inform me that you may enjoy some of this: Also, a link to a supposed shirtless sexiness page, which I refuse to click on, but hope you enjoy nonetheless: it will take a very long time before "Johnny Depp" +sexy is removed from my Google Search Engine, so I hope you enjoy Happy Birthday Again! -
Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries Etc...2006
Canadian Paul replied to Tuber Mirum's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LADY G! I'd post some sexy pictures for you, but I believe you've already warned me about doing that anymore. Besides, I forget what male star you're a fan of, and I'm in no mood to go asking around about which guys my lady friends find sexy. Nevertheless, have a great one! -
On a hunch with Octo's research, I thought perhaps IMDB has realised the same thing that he did and changed it. Sure enough, a more specific death date, this time in 1985 though. So I was half right when I posted the news anyhow.

If I'm not mistaken though, the Darwin Awards imply that you don't have any progeny (thus removing your genes from the pool so that your stupidity doesn't survive the adaptation process or something that I lost track of while writing this run-on sentence). As for Steve Irwin, I can't say that I was a gigantic fan, but I can respect the fact that he was a committed (if annoying) conservationalist. As my Grandpa (and I think someone else on this thread) said though, "Live by the sword, die by the sword."

Ariel Sharon out of intensive care.

Charlie Wagner , 93, baseballer I mention it only because it seems that healthier older people - de Capovilla, Mahfouz, Wagner - who were getting around and seemed OK seem to be dropping like flies lately. Wagner was on his way back from a baseball game (observing, not playing of course, but you get what I mean).

Dammit, me too. Ever since he didn't make his birthday celebrations he went from 27th on my list to 5th, where he remained - and I honestly thought that he'd make it - just - into 2007. Nonetheless, credit where it is due - well done CP! On a personal note, I'm sorry he's gone. I enjoyed a lot of his films. Yes, a fine actor indeed and, moreover, a fine Canadian. You know me though. When it comes to deadpooling, when I'm right I'm... er... surprised.

Read Any Good Books Lately?
Canadian Paul replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Finished reading a book on Writing History. Not all that interesting and not much I didn't know already, but one interesting passage concerned the proper use of grammar in historical essays. It outlined several considerations but also noted that grammical conventions can be ignored in cases where it sounds awkward to write/speak "correctly." The example they used was Star Trek's "to boldy go where no man has been before," claiming that although it was technically incorrect, it would be much less inspiring to write it the grammatically correct way. Thus, he asserts that while grammatical considerations are essential and must be used frequentely, occassionaly it is acceptable to break the rules for stylistic/awkward purposes. In other words, the exact same conclusion NAP and I came to in the grammar thread. Good to know that the folks of Deathlist are on par with the eggheads at Harvard. -
Pinter is my joker, so I can start believing. I will also accept Charles H. Townes or Willis Lamb.

It's not Jolie, it's this fine lass, who is, dare I say, sexier than Jolie? -
Cain killed Abel before Adam snuffed it. There's a few links online to that death. Here is one of them: Abel DEAD! Hey, that death was ALREADY REPORTED!

Yes! And to think I thought Pinter was more likely to die than Rawls...

Congrats on TWUNTDOM to Phantom! Dare I say that this event calls for more Jolie? To avoid the wrath of LG though, perhaps something more pure:
