The strange case of thousands of Hisbollah people in Lebanon being blown up by exploding pagers sounds like something from Doctor Who.

Been To Any Good Gigs Lately?

And to get back on topic for this thread I just found out that they are playing in London next Tuesday, which coincides with a very rare trip of mine back to the UK, so I think this is a sign that I need to try and get a ticket.

I always get Hugh Edwards and Eamonn Holmes confused. I was just about to write I wonder what his new girlfriend thinks of the verdict.

Been To Any Good Gigs Lately?

Her voice and presence are amazing. I'm not a fan of the argument that when a key member of a band dies or leaves for whatever reason the band should change its name. ACDC, the Who, Led Zeppelin and probably others too. If you are talking about the key member of the band leaving then it happened to pink Floyd twice and also Genesis as well. With Queen I might agree with you though! But for purely practical reasons the Queen brand is worth billions and they were never going to say goodbye to that. As co-lead singer Chester was a key member of the band, but Mike Shinoda has always been the key creative force, and others have been important too. They waited 7 years which I think is pretty respectful by anyone's standards, and they have come back with something that sounds truly great which also respects the previous incarnation of the band.

Wish I could see Linkin Park's comeback tour. Their new single is amazing.

    Doctor Who

Just watching the Capaldi doctor with my son. We started at Tennant and last time in 2018-19 only made it to the beginning of Capaldi. Now we started at Tennant again and we're in the second series of Capaldi - it's very good.

    James Earl Jones

He might have rejected it on cost grounds because it is quite expensive to have and maintain a star on the walk of Fame.

He's coming here to Jakarta tomorrow, followed by Timor and PNG. It's a very strenuous trip, even more so for someone so old and in bad health. Let's see if he survives it!

    Madchester

All pop music borrows from or is influenced by previous artists. The Beatles plagiarised Come Together from a Chuck Berry song. Their falsetto "woos" in songs like She Loves You come from Little Richard. McCartney was often derided as writing pastiche. The Stones copied too many American blues players to list. What you have to ask is does the music stand up on its own or does it get quickly forgotten. Judging by demand for the tour, Oasis is in the former category.

    Madchester

They certainly 'borrowed' a lot from Slade, T Rex, Beatles, Glitter and the Coca-Cola advert. On the other hand they were the biggest British band of the 90s by far, Liam Gallagher had an incredible voice (which is still in pretty good nick), Noel is probably the best UK melody writer since McCartney, a couple of the songs have effectively reached national treasure status, and they also have popularity with the younger generation who weren't around in the 90s. The numbers don't lie and this tour will dwarf any other British band reunion there has ever been (far ahead of Blur, Police, Stone Roses etc).
