Ah, yes, I remember that song. It's a take on Jelle Zijlstra, Prime Minister 22 November 1966 – 5 April 1967, but best known as Finance Minister and later president of De Nederlandsche Bank, the Netherlands' central bank. His signature was printed on most of the guilder notes I've used in my life. Arne Jansen was a bit of a one-hit wonder, which may not be such a Bad Thing. In other news: Dutch actress Ina van Faassen died last Saturday, the reports of her death buried by the sordid unpleasantness in a country well known for its parrots. regards, Hein

Let's see: would mean he's a Troller, a Jerk and an Impostor or a Net Rat. I'd like to add the possibility that notaquest is a Newbie. regards, Hein

It's other people that do it, though, isn't it? I mean, if I'm ignoring someone I can't quote them. But someone else will. For example MH, if toast was on your ignore list, you would still be able to read his post in my quote bubble. Unless I'm already on your ignore list? Take a guess... More to the point: I'm well aware of the point that Toast makes. There's little I can do about it. Perhaps a feature I may suggest to the good people at IPB (the almost mythical makers of the Forum Software) is a quote blanker for people one wants to ignore. And even if they'd answer my prayers we'd still have to persuade the Boss to fork out the cost for an Upgrade. My medical advice wasn't only for Toast. regards, Hein

Doesn't work, because the system doesn't allow for quoting. Don't do that, then. Quoting PPPs, I mean. In the same way, I presume, that it's possible that some politicians are occasionally honest. Still no good reason to actually listen to them. regards, Hein

I sympathise with the suggestion, but I don't think it's a Good Idea, since it smells like censorship. May I suggest ignoring particularly pointless posters instead? regards, Hein

Where Will The Next School Massacre Be?

So a random gunman, who'd want to get his 15 minutes of fame in that Tesco, would get lost and end up shooting up the kebab shop. regards, Hein -
One of the best Tours ever IMO...Totally agree, it could have gone to any of the top 8 finishers at one point. Indeed. Unfortunately the Dutch were shite again, with the possible exception of Johnny Hoogerland, who's a hero in the Netherlands now, due to his battle with a barbed wire fence, which he drew. regards, Hein

And another Dutch Johnny carks it: Johnny Hoes, singer and producer of Dutch language hits. As a singer, his record hit was Och, was ik maar bij moeder thuis gebleven (Oh, wish I'd stayed with Mom), the heart-rending story of a private whose sweetheart elopes with his commanding officer, still the best-selling Dutch-language record in history. He produced hits with stars such as De Alpenzusjes, Eddy Wally, de Heikrekels, Normaal, Doe Maar and Henk Wijngaard. His biggest star was, however, de Zangeres Zonder Naam, (The Singer With No Name); he wrote her Ach vaderlief, about a girl who asks her father to quit the booze, as he brings his family to ruin1, perhaps her greatest hit. We Dutch lose a cultural icon of the first order. 1In some circles of elderly drinkers the song's title "Ach vaderlief"(Oh, father dear) is mispronounced as "Acht, vaderlief" (Eight, father dear). regards, Hein

No hits in the first 15 pages when I stick "amy winehouse dead" in Google. "+amy +winehouse +deathlist" finds a link to our main page on the first page, but that is hardly a likely search phrase for ranters. Anyway: a sad miss. For us. I rather like her music, but her death doesn't surprise me. That said, I expected her to last a few more years. Edit to add: suicide, I think. regards, Hein

I'm glad I'm not on Twitter. Mebby it's because I'm not a twit. More to the point: I'd have used a pie with an anvil in it. That would have to be quite some pie, and anyway don't they have metal detectors in these places? Incidentally, does anyone know if Rupert owns a yacht?? Two seconds on Google reveals that he does indeed and, what's more, you can hire it: http://www.theage.com.au/executive-style/l...90817-emuo.html http://www.businessinsider.com/for-rent-ru...hs-yacht-2009-8 Indeed - his yacht is called Rosehearty which is a village about 2-3 miles away from Fraserburgh. If I'm not mistaken Ruperts Great Great Grandfather was a Church of Scotland minister there... I think the villages support for Murdoch has been somewhat exaggerated in this article. I can always count on you guys to do my Googling for me! I was asking more rhetorically really, just that it is almost exactly 20 years since another formidable and controversial media tycoon went off on his yacht... I see. I should have written: I'd have used a pie with an anchor in it. regards, Hein

Luke 18:16 Hmmmm Less than conclusive IMHO. Of course, it's from the bloody bible. That book is not conclusive evidence for anything. It is, however, the only source of information about Yeshua ben Yusuf we have. A tempting thought. regards, Hein
