It's been ages since I last read that stuff, but then my impression was: hoax, and not a particularly good one. It's not difficult to pull such a stunt. You can make things up as you go, as long as you keep notes of what you've written and avoid contradiction. The fact that Titor made several contradictory statements tells us that he didn't. His "cover story" is rubbish. If you need to debug legacy software, you either have the hardware it runs on, or you emulate it. If you don't, you can't use the software, so you don't need to debug it. There's no need to fetch such a fossil. regards, Hein

Shouldn't this be relcated to the "Death Links" thread? Done. I still think it has a slightly spammy odour. I had a look at the forum. It doesn't seem to be very alive, with one single post in ten fora. Mr Anubis has made the classic mistake of creating many fora for every imaginable subject, while there is no content yet. regards, Hein

Indeed. And see this. regards, Hein

Tempting, but even I think that killing all dogs everywhere misses the point. Dogs can be useful. regards, Hein

I never heard of the man, but Italian MEP Marco Pannella is in hospital while on hunger strike against Iraqi executions. Did anyone pick him for a deathpool? regards, Hein
-
And I have a follow-up question: how many marginal characters don't get a little write-up because some journo's mate is in a deadpool? regards, Hein

Welcome to DeathList Forum, ShootingMainstreams. As you can see, I merged your new topic with an existing one. Don't worry about it; happens all the time. regards, Hein

That'd be Alfred Hitchcock, no? regards, Hein

Confusion! Murder, suicide or both? regards, Hein

Urgh. I'm glad I left her out of my team. Did she know what she got herself in before she got all that attention? regards, Hein

She died on sunday so doesn't really belong in the 2007 thread. Our neighbours at www.deathlist.at must have a nice new year, with all that excitement. regards, Hein

Darn you cancelled out my Smyslov unique pick! Hey, I had him on my team last year, you could have checked. Ok, I won't trust that friend of mine anymore, national referee no less. Fide.com is down at the moment, so I can't check the facts, but I will. I considered him for 2005, but lack of news made me pass him. He was a fine 2006 hit. Unfortunately one other team spotted him on the radar. Not really a household name, but a bell rang. A rather small bell, actually, a bit like those little double bells that are rung by Holy Men in Indian temples, temples where they keep rats as holy and which are consquently infested with those filthy rodents. But I digress. I had to look him up. He's quite a biggie, actually. Tying as Champion of the USSR puts one in the class of Candidate World Champions. Few men could say they defeated Capablanca, fewer can. He retired when I couldn't play chess yet. Or read his games, for that matter. His old age might secure him an obit. regards, Hein

Huh? Calling Smith a communist is like calling the Pope a Halibut. regards, Hein

It seems to me it's in working order. I suggest you have a look at this post for a few incantations. Unfortunately the magic doesn't always work. regards, Hein

Aha, Argumentum ad Googlam, the youngest child of Argumentum ad Populum. regards, Hein

You did that exactly as I intended. I closed and unpinned the "Not Exactly Famous" topic. I see little reason for more than one "dead but not listed" topic to exist. We may want to change this one's title to something less contentious. I considered "Near Mrs", but I fear that only causes confusion. regards, Hein

Damn, not a unique pick. regards, Hein

Hehe. I don't think Wike user pages are that dangerous. If they were W90 would have been on the list. I agree, although the 'dies within year of spouses death' effect seems to be real, in widowers more so than widows. I suppose that having a busy social life helps to avoid it. regards, Hein

angles or angels? Or Angles, maybe? It's a mystery how they would attract people, but who knows? regards, Hein

I've heard the same. Of course there's also the explanation that they do believe their own propaganda and have a strong suspicion what'll await them after death. regards, Hein

some interesting picks here.....(and a few I need to go and look up ! )Not sure about Korchnoi....I think he has been inactive (chess-wise ) for a couple of years...but I doubt if thats anything to worry about ...unless you have heard something ? I obviously hope to get a few unique picks. Mulisch is a gamble. I like to stick a Dutch pick on my list and the Dutch royals are disgustingly healthy. He's a Dutch author, possibly the best known abroad among the living, but I know of no health problems and even if he drops an obit might not come. Korchnoi: gut feeling rather than knowledge. He's retired and he's about the most fanatic chess player I know. Inactivity can't do him good. I do remember a remark on a newsgroup that his health was not as good as it used to be. It was unsourced, so it may well be a rumour. I wonder if Girija Prasad Koirala will work. regards, Hein
