You say that as if it's a bad thing. While I'm neither hippy (If anything, I'm a punk rocker), do-gooder, nor pacifist, some of my best friends are hippy do-gooder pacifists.

Whom Are You Tarring With The Epithet "twunt"?

That's rubbish, plenty of the more prolific posters on here are getting plenty of sex - with their own fists, whilst wearing their mummy's bra and pants. Who told you that? -
The European version of a drive-by shooting?

Yes, sorry the 75/35/1975 thing apparently confused me. There must be something wrong with me today. No problem, we all have suvh days. Good family name, BTW, Ochs. I like animals as family names. In Dutch we have Vos, Mus, De Hond, De Kat, De Wolf, De Leeuw, Vis, Adelaar, Arend, De Vink... Oh, and De Jager and Visser, of course.

28 Years Of The Deathlist!
Magere Hein replied to themaninblack's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
The death of Princess Diana I didn't find out about until I switched on the telly at 7pm to watch the footy (Feyenoord beat De Graafschap 2 - 0) and the news was all over the screen. Her funeral was broadcast live on Dutch TV, but I had more entertaining things to do. About the 11 September events I learned when I arrived at my chess club, some five hours after the attacks. I then realised that what I had seen on the telly (with the sound turned off, at the Surinamese restaurant where I had dinner) was live footage, not some film. I vaguely remember when Martin Luther King was killed. I heard it on the radio news (no telly in the house) the next day. I didn't understand the importance of it, so I asked my mom. This was the first time I learned about race relations in the US. The first death I remember being discussed at the family dinner table - other than dead relatives - was that of Lou de Palingboer, a self-proclaimed reincarnation of Jesus. -
Ummmm where to begin. According to the numbers you've quoted, he retired 5 years before he was born, and led Hamburg to the European Cup when he was 3. He mistranslated a sentence of the article. "Bereits im Alter von 35 Jahren beendete er seine Karriere." translates to: "Already at age 35 he ended his carreer." He died aged 75.

A Kohl day in hell, you mean?

"[H]e can't use his mouth". Many women would love that in their hubbies.

I'm pretty sure 22nd century historians will talk about the World War (1914 - 1945, with a 21 year armistice 1918 - 1939) and perhaps they'll have another that hasn't happened yet.

C'est la vie.

Vera Lynn. I expect the unexpected.

One would think a diet of bread and water would do wonders for her condition.

Drugs kill. Guess they never got the memo. Perhaps they did get it, but couldn't read it.

I don't blame the few footballers who earn millions for accepting those salaries. I rather see that money end up in their bank accounts than those of the club owners. It does, however, seem disproportionate that those footballers earn more in a week than most hardworking people in a lifetime, for a job in entertainment rather than something productive.

I'm very sad to learn this. While his work is a bit of an acquired taste, it's briliant.

I think ol' German Chancellor is next.

New Here And Just Saying Hello

Well done, and welcome. -
Robertson's existence is a good illustration of the problem of evil, a strong argument against the existence of an omnipotent, omniscient and omnibenevolent god.

Oh, that's sad. He was the best long distance speed skater when I first got interested in that sport. His Dutch competitors, Kees Verkerk (72) and Ard Schenk (70) are still with us, but also getting on a bit.

And does the cause of death rhyme with hot, pot and snot?

Today in 1784 Dutch political writer and liberal revolutionary Joan van der Capellen tot den Pol died, aged 42. His first achievement was the abolition of conscript labour farmers in his province of Overijssel had to perform, a relic of feudal socage. His anonymously published pamphlet Aan het Volk van Nederland ("To the People of the Netherlands") is one of the most important early writing for democracy in the Netherlands, influential to this day. Dutch historian Jan Romein devoted one chapter of his Erflaters van onze beschaving, a biographical who is who of 36 Dutch men and women from 1320 to 1930, to Van der Capellen.
