No. I've heard rumours of it, though. regards, Hein

It appears the Scottish vote is observed closely by Frisian nationalist. According to Sybren Posthumus, an FNP member who represent the party in the provincial states I love Friesland as much as any part of the Netherlands, but I care little for this kind of politics. This spineless creature knows quite well that Friesland is not like Scotland with respect to natural resources. As far as I'm concerned the Dutch abolish provinces altogether, Friesland included. regards, Hein

Not necessarily. He may be hinting at the autumn that starts around March 2015 on the southern hemisphere. Or the autumn that starts around September 2020 on the northern one, for that matter.

What we really want to know: which autumn? regards, Hein

It took a bit more time, but the news is out. Van Basten will switch jobs with current assistant manager Alex Pastoor. Van Basten said he doesn't expect to work as full manager again. ISTM he's nowhere near death. regards, Hein

I wouldn't be so sure about that 'safe bet'. The article says Benton's a born-again Christian. regards, Hein

And now he's stepped down from his AZ role. Oh dear. Both AZ Alkmaar and Van Basten himself deny this. An article on the news website of Dutch national broadcaster NOS says (translated): Presumably more news will come out next Monday. 1 A Dutch tabloid. regards, Hein

That one was based on DNA "evidence" from an envelope. Circumstantially both of the DNA fingered individuals have some form. Sickert as an artist was one person who could move easily between social classes at the time (not too easy to do). Kosminski died in an insane asylum and had some violent proclivities, the killings stopped once he'd been locked up. They've ruled out a wave of suicidal hookers, right? Not that I'm aware of. The hypothesis that Jack the Ripper was actually a midwife brought into London by a UFO during 1888 has also not been refuted. regards, Hein

Perhaps as an alternative for his ususal Ham Ooh, I think Galento's message got mutilated by our Bad Word filter, which I trained to replace brand and type names of merchandise spammers try to flog by "SPAM". Did Moore perhaps admit to taking erection enhancing pills? regards, Hein -

'Allo 'Allo (a shit joke that'll smoke out anyone old enough to recall the 87 hurricane). If you try it with a René accent. Actually, I find this kind of joke irresistable ever since watching the Marx Brothers 1929 flick The Cocoanuts: regards, Hein

Ah, Jack the Ripper. As I understand it, the chain of evidence is as follows: There's a shawl that was present at the murder of Catherine Eddowes. Mitochondrial DNA of at least two individuals was found on that shawl The DNA of one of those individuals matches that of one of Catherine Eddowes’s descendants closely The other set contains mitochondrial DNA that matches one female descendant of Kosminski's sister closely I didn't read the lot, so I may well have missed a few things. My comments: What's the provenance of that shawl? What exactly are the genealogical relations of Kosminski and Eddowes and the individuals the DNA was matched against? Did they search for DNA of other people than Kosminski and Eddowes? If this evidence holds up under scrutiny, it's strong (but inconclusive) evidence of Kosminski's presence at Eddowes' murder. It's not conclusive proof that Kosminski murdered Eddowes. It only 'solves' one of the murders and leaves at least four more open for speculation. From my own walks through Whitechapel I know Jack the Ripper is the source of a considerable cottage industry. I don't think the case will be closed anytime soon. Edit to add: there's something fishy about the whole shawl thing. I can't put my finger on any fraud, but a look at that Russell Edwards made me suspicious. Then again, this Dr Jari Louhelainen is a real scientist, with a reputation on forensic molecular biology. regards, Hein

I have some Maltesers, if you want to trade for some popcorn... Hi, sorry I'm late. Hmm, popcorn, can I have some? I didn't bring munchies, but I do have some weed. Wanna smoke? Anyway, did I miss any good bits? In 1995 I was present at the sea trials of a newly built ferry (MV Isle of Innisfree, now MV Kaitaki). The shipyard was located a few miles upriver from Rotterdam, so she had to pass a large train bridge there, De Hef. It was a tight squeeze. We actually had to wait for half an hour to allow the tide to fall enough that she could pass beneath it and two tugs were needed to steer her through. I well remember the impression of impending disaster when the two would collide. They didn't. This Scottish independence song-and-dance is similar, but then with time reversed. regards, Hein

Did you get paid? As it happened, payment was offered. I gave her a lift back down the road after (she had gotten up with her mum as she only has a bike and a boat licence), kipped on her couch so she could have my doggie for the night, and she tried to give me £. I declined. I understand. Wrong currency. regards, Hein

Did you get paid? My commiserations with the loss and my thanks for the story. Loved it. regards, Hein

Let me guess: by scribbling something on a slip of paper, sticking that paper in an envelope and mailing that envelope to some government agency. regards, Hein
