Poor woman. I already did understand the horrors of that disease. A friend of mine, Karin Spaink, suffers from it and has made it quite clear that she won't go there. regards, Hein

''Oldest'' not ''last''.................... I stand corrected! You're not the only one to get it wrong. Dutch news site nu.nl also reports the last etc. regards, Hein

These rumours make it clear that the Comandante's condition is similar to that of Schrödinger's cat. So for this bet let's up the ante From a quid to 25 Is he dead or still alive? This hapless quantum commandante regards, Hein

My favourite conspiracy theory is the Apollo Moon landings hoax. I have no doubts that what I saw on the box in 1969 and on was the real thing, but the "arguments" used by the people who believe otherwise are quite amusing. I won't go into them, you can find them easily on the interweb. I just ran across a piece of work of monumental proportions by a Paul White, who compared every still and TV shot that contains an image of the Earth of all Apollo missions that flew to or around the Moon, to cloud patterns of weather satellite images. All this to prove that each and every one matches perfectly. Here's a sample. Possibly the most famous shots of Apollo 8 are the Earhrise ones: Here's his comparison with weather sat imagery of the same date and time: This awesome labour of love, all 200 odd pages of it, can be found on Scribd, titled Clouds Across the Moon. regards, Hein

According to the ever so reliable Wikipedia entry on Flowers in the Rain the case is that those royalties go to "a charity of Wilson's choice". Ouch, expensive joke that. Bolton Lads Club? That sounds iffy. regards, Hein

Dutch bovines can do it too: an agressive bull killed a Frisian man in Noordwolde. Couldn't find the story in English, so here's a Dutch source. regards, Hein

Instructions for Firefox: right-click the image; left-click the "save" button. I guess it works the same for many web browsers, but I don't know how this works wit macs, mobile telephones or tablets. ETA: I've copied a few pictures to Imageshack, because I couldn't see the deeplinked ones in this topic. regards, Hein -
Dead. No English obit yet, but I trust it will come. ETA: And here it is. BBC also has one now. regards, Hein

Alain Robert AKA Spider-Man
Magere Hein replied to harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy's topic in DeathList Forum
Well, it all seems to have happened relatively splatless, so that question is academic. The answer, btw, is no, because his terminal velocity would be something like 200-300 km/h, which would of course kill him on impact, but certainly not scatter him over any appreciable area. regards, Hein -
I guess that when you're in Kent you grab any opportunity for amusement. regards, Hein

I'm not sure this is the rigth topic, I might as well post it in "Authors Last a Long Time, But....", but hey, this one can do with some traffic. Flemish author Ivo Michiels died last Sunday. I haven't read much of his work. I did read Het afscheid, after I bought a translation to Hungarian of it in Budapest in the early 1980s. regards, Hein

Sure you don't mean Cheech and Chong? I sure did but it sounded better my way like Ping Pong Ding Dong and Long Shlong or summat. Anyway, they were fuggin awful films IMHO... Only saw the first one, kinda liked it. I hear most of them are pretty shit Some of their records were pretty funny, though. Here's a sample: "Up his nose". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1mCWoPA5_w" regards, Hein

The inability to spell or use grammar is quite normal in Christian fundamentalist fascists and left wing apologists, so there's no reason for shame. If you are ashamed, though, you can always blame Thatcher. regards, Hein

You haven't watched the Pink Panther movies or The Ladykillers then? His realm name is (was) Herbert Charles Angelo Kuchacevich ze Schluderpacheru. (Taken from the BBC obit page) Why on Earth would one change such a wonderful name to Lom? The only reason I can think of is that the title makers of films charge extra when he's in it. regards, Hein

Since this is posted in a Good News topic: small children receive much less damage from falling on their heads than adults do, due to difference in size. To quote Stephen Gould: This doesn't mean children won't get hurt when they fall. They'll certainly cry as if it's the end of the world, but probably they'll survive without lasting damage. What am I doing wrong, or alternatively, why isn't the forum allowing me this privilege? I just logged in as a normal user and successfully created a new topic. I also checked your account, there's nothing there that prevents you from doing the same. I don't know why for you it was verboten. I do remember now that I had some trouble posting recently. I didn't take notes, so I can't remember exactly what I tried to do, but it was nothing out of the ordinary. Anyway, the board software refused my contribution with some error message, and, interestingly, the same 404 error message. The dreaded 404 message tells us that the web server hosting our forum couldn't find a file the forum software wanted. I think that that web server has one or more problems. I noticed that the last few months the server can be very sluggish at times. It seems the hosting company have issues with bandwidth, database server capacity or some other computing resource. My speculation is that some forum they host has become very popular and eats server resources like popcorn. If my thoughts are correct it's something that needs The Boss's attention. I'll do some research and report to GR. regards, Hein
