IMO it's been shit since 1988. That year a third public TV channel was launched in the Netherlands. I proudly present Magere Hein's Conservation Law of Quality TV Time. My hypothesis is that, ever since the invention of TV, the amount of quality TV that's broadcast every week has been constant. Since that time the number of channels has increased by a factor of 1000 or more, and quality TV time is divided among all those channels. Therefore the odds are overwhelmingly that you'll miss it. regards, Hein

Are you talking Ali or McCartney? Yes. regards, Hein

Let it be known that from now on Moderators and Admins are free to remove irritating pictures (animated or not) from members' signatures at their discretion. regards, Hein

I don't want to encourage more readers to add animated gifs (or for that matter large pictures) to their signatures. So listen very carefully, I shall say this only onceā¦ [img=url of the picture] In other words: it's the bog-standard way of putting a picture in BBCode. regards, Hein

I hate gif's. So do I, but that wasn't the question. regards, Hein

It's possible. I fixed your .sig to show it. regards, Hein

By using the img and /img tags, with square brackets around them. Interesting enough, you already use them in your .sig, with the joker image. What you do now fails, because you use round brackets around the tags. regards, Hein

To show how great your dictatorship is, IIRC, and to say to the rest of the world: "You're shit and you know you are." It doesn't always work. regards, Hein

I am aware of the existence of the Piatigorsky Cup. Some of the games played by Fischer in the second one are classics. I wasn't aware that it was named after a Mrs. Piatigorsky, nor that a Mrs. Piatigorsky ever lived. The only excuse I can mumble is the fact that no woman at that time played at grandmaster strength, so their games were rarely published. Edit to add: apparently she wasn't too bright when it came to chess customs. That article writes: Fischer had a name for throwing fits, but in this case he was completely right. Games are not postponed, unless for health reasons of one of the players. regards, Hein

Considering the British talent for major cock-ups I expect a Munich or Montreal, or possibly both. regards, Hein

5 / 7. The squid question was a shoe-in thanks to TAFKAG. Shouldn't that girl be in bed at that time? regards, Hein -
All this talk about dead newscasters reminds me that Dutch newscaster Frits Thors is still with us, aged 103. I don't think he's obitworthy in the UK, so no DDP material, but he can't live forever. regards, Hein

I'm aware that the police have their use, e.g. for catching criminals. It's their unfortunate lot that most of the good they do stays low on the publicity radar, whereas for every person who has had a bad experience with the rozzers it's personal. This results in the well-known observations that when you need a copper none is around and that they always show up when you do something illegal. The fact remains that, largely, the pigs are poorly educated, trained, led and paid. In my country they have an additional danger: despite these deficiencies they carry firearms. Rarely a year passes without fatalities among suspects or the public. regards, Hein -
