And by referring to Mullen as their oldest surviving player, this rules out Graham Miller as being alive. They would have mentioned him if he were alive as he also played in their first season. John Scott - 10 days older than Mullen - and definitely still alive as per Cumbria Golf Union, played for Workington before they were in the football league.

Although this isn't surprising, it truly is the end of a particular era. I was reading a book about Stirling Moss recently, with one of his main rivals in a hill climb being McAlpine. This was from 1948, and I thought it incredible anyone racing from 75 years ago was still alive. RIP

Emrys Evans died 10th March 2023. Born 1930, probably Newport's oldest player. But it was his work at Merthyr Town that got him a half-term "in memoriam" mention on the scoreboard between Wales and Latvia. Best link is on Facebook; The club is sad to hear of the passing to former player and manager, Emrys Evans. He was a talented footballer and was a regular in the league champions teams of the late 50’s and early 60’s, but also turned out for Tottenham Hotspur and Newport County AFC. Slattery was ex-Accrington; Horne ex-Northampton Town.
