    Now that is a shame.

And didn't Anne Haddy, who played Helen Daniels on Neighbours, die in real life just days after she died on screen? Not quite & No. Brian Mosley had been ill for many years before hand, so his death was no surprise. After all, leaving after a long stint, doesn't necessarily mean death straightaway, ie Lynne Perrie, Geoff Hinsliff, Julie Goodyear et al. Anne Haddy died in real life about a year after leaving Neighbours. However, that episode in the UK was shown 7 months later, which is why it seemed a shorter time.

    Sir Patrick Moore

Yes, I saw the same report & was going to post this earlier but I forgot! Should be good for some while yet - not on death's door. Yes, he's overweight, but looks healthy.

    Near misses 2006

True... but that's like getting Prince Charles and Prince Edward mixed up. Wikipedia does have such tremendous power that contributors just have to be so careful.. and post sources. It's all I ask in life.

    Death List Had Made It.

So who's the abuser from Tiscali? I can only think they keep posting fake deaths to catch out Iain!

    Near misses 2006

I can only hope you meant that sarcastically..... Sure enough, it's yet another Wikipedia fake. Apologies, everyone. After all I say about trusting Wikipedia, I kinda of shoot myself in the foot & look stupid but it has done two good things - one proved, once again, to Iain to stop worshipping everything Wikipedia says as gosepl & two, reminded me that King Michael is still alive, so he goes on my DDP possibles list. Also, I spent a while sorting out some Band of Brothers bio info on Wikipedia, backed up with SSDI & Memorial information & some plonker has chosen to believe what a TV show says over the real thing. Wikipedia, it's a crock of S**t.

King Michael I of Romania, the last monarch of Romania - the only link in English is from Wikipedia so far, so I'll wait for a more reliable source.

She's another of Oct of Od's immortals. 86 going on 60. She'll last for a bit yet.

    A Famous Belgian

redoubtable \rih-DOW-tuh-buhl\, adjective: 1. Arousing fear or alarm; formidable. 2. Illustrious; eminent; worthy of respect or honor. One hopes its meaning number two Toots was the harmonica player on Midnight Cowboy, that's how I've heard of (and stay interested about) him.

    A Famous Belgian

I reckon: Liz Claiborne & Christian de Duve are the only decent bets in terms of age & famousness. And that's pushing it. However, two of the more famous & older are doing brilliantly: Paul Frere, Le Mans winner, journalist, author & motor racing legend, is approaching 90, but will go on for many years yet - he would get an obituary in any broadsheet. Toot Thielemans is now 84, but the last time I saw him in 2004, looked the picture of health. A lot of Belgians have become famous recently, as in sport, for example, so it may be some years yet.

    Clive Dunn

One hopes not, but gain strength from Sir John Mills. Eyesight really started failing early-mid 80's. Died aged 97. In that case, old Dunny has bout 15 years yet.

I like this sudden profileration of Dad's Army avatars.. well two.. so much, I added my own

    DL in "The Sun"

I thought the Sun's "SuperCaleygoballisticCelticareatrocious' when then tiny Inverness Caledonian Thistle beat John Barnes' Celtic was brilliant. I read The Times but the Sun is good for a light read every so often & excellent for football news & reviews.

Dancer Fayard Nicholas - the eldest & last surviving Nicholas Brother - the famous (or they were in the 40's) tap dancing brothers. Source

    Hulk Hogan Drops Last Legdrop...

Yes, but as Canadian Paul & I have said there have been numerous "fake" deaths over the last few months. Anyone can do it - not just one guy.

    Hulk Hogan Drops Last Legdrop...

Looks like another Wikipedia fake (no news items anywhere, bar the On This Day thing) but give it time, as Iain might post it in the "Near Misses" thread soon.

    Richard O'Sullivan

I would plump for Wycombe, Leyton Orient & Carlisle in that order. Grimsby to miss out. It could be anybody & even the likes of Northampton can't be ruled out either if they put a run together. I'm nervously biting fingernails as a Reading fan. Yes, unbeaten in 29, yes, (finally) beloved by the press, yes, we could beat records... but as a Reading fan of some 21 years... until it's official, we could still blow it. Hope to do Villa a small favour by knocking out Birmingham Shitty on Saturday I suppose politeness means I should stick to the topic in hand... Hmmm.. Well, Ray Donn appears to be a Charlton fan, according to his CV. I wonder if Dickie O likes football? I mentioned Dickie O to my mother yesterday - same age bracket as Dickie O. Didn't seem too concerned about him being ill, but was convinced Tony Britton was dead. She convinced me so much, I had to go check it again, but she was thinking of Patrick Cargill, I presume.

    Survivors 2006

Would be very suprised if they died in 2006: Alfredo Di Stefano, Al Lewis, Eli Wallach, John Profumo, Norman Wisdom, Dom Mintoff, Vera Lynn, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Claire Rayner, Mickey Rooney, Tony Curtis, Nelson Mandela, Clive Dunn Ones I suspect will last the year out through sheer persistence: Ronnie Biggs, Charles Lane, Albert Hofmann, Patrick Moore, Byron Nelson, Kurt Waldheim, Muhammad Ali, Margaret Thatcher, Charlton Heston & Aaron Spelling The rest I consider good each-way bets.

    Ian Smith

Who's dead? Ian Smith is still alive (barely)

The stupid mammal has already been mentioned in numerous threads.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2007

Hmm... the BBC seem to think the Whale's life/death is more important than that of Rugova's AND near war in Sri Lanka & protests in Nepal. News dumbing down in a big way..
  22. Octopus of Odstock

    Derby Dead Pool 2006

Sheesh.. another one I can't believe I left off the DDP list. I think my thinking was "he's having treatment, maybe he'll be alright if he's not going to quit". Ah well. Certainly an impressive start by FP, KKK! but he/she has got some very obscure people in their list, which, like Miura, might not get an obit. But interesting anyway.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2007

Obviously The old Emir of Kuwait is dead & buried, but it looks like the new one may join him quite soon: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4632060.stm He really doesn't sound a very well chap The only consideration is in case he abdicates, which will push him down the famousness list, but only by a little I would imagine.
  24. Octopus of Odstock

    Near misses 2006

Anthony Franciosa Shelley Winters' former husband, has died less than a week after her.
  25. Octopus of Odstock

    King Harald V of Norway

I had him on my very first DDP season, but his age plus the fact that he has beaten smoking, cancer & had a successful heart bypass means I think he will go on for a few more years. He has aged a lot lately though..
