    First Celebrity Death You Remember

Danny Kaye. I remember being quite upset as I'd recently watched Hans Christian Andersen. Followed swiftly by Patrick Troughton. But I remember Challenger exploding before that, so I suppose that has to be the first.

I'd you read the rather entertaining article in full, it appears to be a problem with the pacemaker as opposed to cardiac arrest or anything more sinister. But the poor lad really has had a lot of rotten luck

    The Chequered Flag

    Tremendously sad news, but inevitable.

    The Chequered Flag

1965 British Saloon car champion, Roy Pierpoint, has died, aged 93. http://www.brdc.co.uk/Notice-of-Death---Roy-Pierpoint-1929---2023

    Elvis Presley

Ken Block surely fits 2023 better than Presley (i.e. as famous as Sophie or Ulielll is he in their field) in terms of how they died.

    Hollywood Possibilities

Went on Google to confirm but Carole Cook, Diane Baker, Wagner, Lansbury, Saint. Google says 2019.

    Dance

Sir C is right though, Stanley Mills was not the 'inventor' of the Chicken Dance.

    Rolf Harris

Well, possibly, but if she tells the media straightaway, there would be a media frenzy towards the street. The neighbours might choose to give it time so to dissipate that. That said, I will admit it would be hard to keep it a secret for too long considering the carers, nurses etc.

    Rolf Harris

I didn't pick him for the DDP as I had a gut feel the information may not be as reliable as originally made out. That, or he's already long dead and we only find out by death indexes or detective work.

    King Constantine II of Greece

His death could be crossposted in the Olympic thread, as he won Olympic sailing gold in 1960.

    Princess Bajrakitiyabha of Thailand

Apparently suffering from kidney problems. Worth pointing out that Lunar New Year is a massive time in Thailand so if they are waiting for that, it could be sooner rather than later that they pull the plug. From twitter; ⚠️ UPDATE — According to royal and medical sources, Princess Bajrakitiyabha is developing acute kidney injury after nearly a month of being kept artificially alive on an ECMO machine. She has been brain dead since December 14 but her body was kept alive. 1/3

He does mention that it could be a year in the article. Either way, sounds end-stage

    Oldest Living football league players

Ron Harbertson was a guest at a football game just a few months ago. Definitely alive. https://www.weareimps.com/news/2022/october/fpa-guests-v-charlton/

A positive dwarf compared to Ed de Goey.

    Political Frailty

Ridiculous. How dare prominent North Koreans have the same name. Still, proves the search function works.

    Political Frailty

Well, over ten years on, there's suspicion that's (being taken out) exactly what's happened: https://www.standard.co.uk/news/world/kim-jongun-north-korea-execution-ri-yong-ho-ambassador-uk-b1051399.html?amp

Well, @Spade_Cooley will take another step towards a DDP title when the QO comes. Sad news, great little player

    49. Franz Beckenbauer

I'll repeat what I posted in the Pele thread: https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/20522325/germany-legend-beckenbauer-to-ill-to-fly-to-qatar/ I agree about 80 being a tall order, although I don't think he's on his way out this year.

    Derby Dead Pool 2023

Well done Joey and Sir C (and anyone else who picked him). Slight gnashing of teeth here, but at least it's a useful judge for obit-ability for future years.
  23. Octopus of Odstock

    Baseball

I came very, very close to putting him in, once I saw the hospice information. But baseball has a very hit and miss coverage and I felt he wouldn't obit. His career was lengthy, but not hall of fame worthy. I think I mentioned him in the salvage lot thread.

    Derby Dead Pool 2023

Reading Twitter, she's already dead, it's just when the Thai Royal Family confirm it. I hope Twitter's right.
  25. Octopus of Odstock

    Gianluca Vialli

He was one of my favourite footballers as a schoolboy; him, Bryan Robson, Chris Waddle, Davie Cooper and Trevor Senior. I didn't want to make him my DDP joker, but his days were numbered. I take no pleasure from this, but 24 points is what it is...
