If he's still alive, it's Arnold Woollard. -
https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/mike-rowe?utm_term=RwaXK99Zx Ex ABBA drummer and 1980's racer Slim Borgudd has dementia. Has gone downhill quickly since the last time I was in contact with him in Spring.

No, only 2 left. I mean, in theory, you could count all the Bolivians but there's no proof they're alive. Carbajal and Saguier. Hopefully, Carbajal, the first man to play in 5 World Cups will be the last man standing, it would be more apt I feel. On Twitter, it was confirmed in the last year that Rojas died in the early 1980's, whereas Walter Beerli definitely died in 1995, as per: https://www.e-newspaperarchives.ch/?a=d&d=BTB19951230-01.2.44.1&srpos=3&e=-------de-20--1-byDA.rev-txt-txIN-"walter+beerli"-------0----- @Ulitzer95, would you be so good to do your Wikipedia thing for Beerli to officially 'kill' him off ? There's quite a few round-up of deaths that year. Rey... there's absolutely nothing to confirm he's still alive. Of course, he could be but.. very, very doubtful. Likewise, Zlatkovic, although I've found something in Serbian which suggests he might be gone as it's in past tense... but that could just be translation.

No, I don't. I know Obeid Al Dosari is alive. The dead lad is (or was) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khamis_Al-Owairan

Okay, I found this: Southend United Ex-Players Association - SUEPA · We are truly saddened to learn from his family this morning that Peter Heathcote passed away after a short illness on Easter Sunday. He was well known to a huge number of people in the Essex football scene and loved by all. Peter, aged 89, was to our knowledge the oldest surviving Southend United footballer, and also we believe was the last Shrimper alive who had played for the club before its move to Roots Hall in 1955, having played for us twice in goal during the 1951/52 season. Therefore we are pretty safe to remove Ernie Butler. Heathcote, I am sure, would've said something about a team-mate from that season still being alive. I also think if Ray Woods was still alive, there would be more from SUEPA about a player from the 1940's. Like Bill Anderson, I've marked him as probably dead. However, I am reluctant to move off the following: Eric Marsden - see comment in this page here - was alive in 2020 and nothing in GRO since - https://www.holmesdale.net/page.php?id=111&player=463 Jimmy Thomson - definitely alive in 2017 Billy Waters - never actually played for Southend, only on their books. -
Ideas and possibilities for 2023

Saw Piper today and looks very well. Looks to have lost some weight so looks much healthier and was walking much better than in recent years. Looked in his early 80's if I didn't know better. -
As it's panto season, best to post 'Oh no he doesn't'. Check his response to his own tweet. He made it up.

Quite possibly. The clincher would be of the club itself confirmed Duchart was also the oldest. Let me check the six again to see if they ever had any link to Southend FPA. -
That's young Ulitzer.

Anton Sukup does not work in the industry. He's just a normal fan who runs a FB page. The guy who came up with the dates is a different matter, but not all his credentials check out . I DO work in the historic motor racing industry and not one noted researcher into old Grand Prix drivers have adopted these dates.... yet. Copies of letters or correspondence or anything to use as some kind of proof have not materialised when asked. By all means put it on Wiki and count it for Scavenger Hunt but the belief is Seiffert is probably still alive. You know me, I hate having loads of old footballers as alive when I know they're not, but there needs to be "something". At the moment, it's missing. What we really need is some kind of German death index. For what it's worth, this is the most credible death report of Seifert I've seen (Note the spelling of his name has changed a few times) but we're not wholly convinced. For example, Old Racing Cars, listed as a source on Wikipedia, hasn't adopted the dates. Nor Stats F1 and they're normally VERY quick, nor FORIX, nor Motorsport Magazine. I think we just need that scrap of extra info. I'll be interested to see who updates their websites as a result of Wiki going for Sukup as a credible source.
-
He's not a researcher. There's no proof at all. Im aware of the claim but I've already removed an edit on Wikipedia. Seiffert has been listed as deceased a number of times without evidence to back it up... and there's no death notice anywhere. The Germans are normally pretty good with that. Until there's better evidence, he's alive

I did have a concern, which meant I didn't ink her name in my final twenty, that we would find out a fair while after the event. Makes next year's list that tiny bit easier. Good riddance to thoroughly bad rubbish.

Ah man, this is tremendously sad. Staggered to learn she was in her 70's.

Thank you everyone. I would still like unique picks to get significantly more points (maybe as many as 8) than drop 40 as picking an poorly unique is a greater achievement than, say, picking Pele, but maybe for next time. I will admit, in my first year back, underestimating the influence on the drop 40 on scoring.. not so 2023. Good luck to everyone playing.
-
Very, very sad news. Patrick was a lovely guy.

He's not on the list as he never played a football league game, but it'll be good to know if he's still alive, for checking who is the oldest former international for Northern Ireland. -
Karma for Pele for overcelebrating a toe poke versus the Welsh in 1958. We might be going home but he's not
-
Hazard's already started by the looks of him

It says a lot about modern deadpooling that Marx is my tenth hit, as well as my joker, yet I still only scrape (for now) into the top 40. At least her death, after one heck of a courageous fight, as well as Maurice Norman's, makes picking 2023 alumni a bit easier.

I'm not entering so feel free to bribe me accordingly!

He did and he was Hungary's coach in the 1982 World Cup. There's always fallers of past World Cups whilst the present World Cup is on and I doubt Meszoly will be the last during the tournament.

ALS/MND/other degenerative diseases
Octopus of Odstock replied to Sir Creep's topic in DeathList Forum
Now that's interesting. Darby is standing. The last few pictures have seen him in a wheelchair. I'd imagine he uses a wheelchair most of the time but unlike Burrow and Weir, he's not confined. That changes my predictions. Burrow... Sadly I cannot see him making 2024. Weir.. not sure if he'll see 2024 Darby.. barring massive deterioration should make a couple more years. -
Francis Joseph, a cult hero at Wimbledon, Brentford, Sheffield United and Reading has died, aged only 62. Guessing stroke or heart attack as not known to be poorly. Gained cult status for his work effort 'Have a go Jo' Got a BBC obit no less, possibly as he was Wimbledon's first black player. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/sport/football/63675271.amp Only third Reading player to have played in the last 37 years to have died (Since I started watching them). More in depth interview only recently with him here:https://www.brentfordfc.com/en/news/article/kings-of-the-castle-francis-joseph
