F**** sake. No mention of the dementia she is supposed to have. Thats hit my chances of winning but at least I can drop her from 2014 lists.

Will admit to a tinge of disappointment that the pun for Gilmar wasn't "Unhappy Gilmar".

"Mr Master Mind" - Bill Woodward, the man on the front of the Master Mind board game has died. Apologies if this has already been posted, but I wasn't aware we have a board game thread (yet) - below is Mr Woodward (on the right, obviously) - http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/Man-iconic-Master-Mind-box-dies/story-19728006-detail/story.html#axzz2dUAe6mDz

That's a very interesting article as it says Gerald Sim of To The Manor Born fame is in the same nursing home.

De Sordi was on my shortlist for 2014 based on it being World Cup year and his ill health. He was really unlucky to miss out on playing in the final, he'd played every other game. Both he and Gilmar were poorly so probably wouldnt have had any guest appearance next year anyway.

Toast, the easiest way for me to do the lists was to amend the "World Cup Squads" on Wikipedia and then delete those no longer with us. Unfortunately it both meant the above and the way it all comes out on this software, hence Death Impends has had to help out. But, in the long run, it now means I can edit as and when. When there's significantly less players alive from the 1950's, I'll look at the two 1960's tournaments.

    Somewhere Over The Rainbow

This. The disease he has is always newsworthy because it brings more questions than answers back to the media fore. But it's not a very forgiving disease and there's 4 months of 2013 left yet.

Death Impends, again, you are a superstar, thank you. It allows me to edit it so much more easily. Whilst I'm at it Chilean player Alfonso Lara, who played in the 1974 World Cup, has died.

If he is in remission and stays that way, then his survival will have a big impact on the DDP title contenders.

1954 has been amended after the death of Jean Vincent. He also played in 1958 (that list is under way and will be on here soon), but also took part in the 1982 World Cup as Cameroon's coach in their first - and reasonably successful - World Cup attempt. All amended accordingly. I'll start 1958 soon, but for now that'll probably be the last where I do a list as 1962 still has a reasonable amount of people living, or enough to not warrant a list like 1950 & 1954. Maybe in a few years.

I'm going to copy and paste the Dead of the Recent World Cups in here, but aside from Benitez, 1982 also lost a World Cup player recently. Like Benitez, he only made one substitute appearance, but Santiago Santamaria was still part of the Argentine 1982 squad - http://www.europapress.es/latam/argentina/noticia-argentina-fallece-60-anos-santiago-cucurucho-santamaria-simbolo-newells-20130728185000.html
