Mark Steel has finished chemotherapy, had a video x-ray and is allowed to eat solid food again.

According to the man himself on X, Mark Steel is cancer-free:

A nice man from UCL Hospital called this week, to say a scan of me showed the cancer I had has all gone. The treatment worked, the cancer bottled it and ran off, the wimp.

    Isn’t it Paul Goldsmith ?

A racing colleague of mine rang Griffith Airport today.

Not only is Mr Goldsmith still alive, but he's at the airport working, as he apparently is every day.

I don't know what to say, there is no death date for him in Accurint. I think that FamilySearch is not at all reliable due to the fact that it is recently listing many death dates of people with Wiki (one of them is the actress Joyce Taylor who surprisingly died in the same year as Paul in 2022?). I wonder if it is something reliable why doesn't it list the full date of death but only the year?

Thank you. I think the fact his airport wish him happy birthday is a big hmmm, I think its fake.

According to a post on the Family Search ancestry site, Goldsmith died off-radar 2022.

His aviation website say he's living. I'd be surprised if he died without any notice, but I guess its possible. There is a Facebook post wishing him a happy 98th as well from the airport.

I'll do a full and thorough search tonight but in the meantime:

    @Gisooo anything on accurint?

Paul Goldsmith was born on 2 October 1925, in Parkersburg, Wood, West Virginia, United States as the son of Edward Goldsmith and Maysel Geraldine Henderson. He had at least 1 son with Helen. He lived in Zanesville, Muskingum, Ohio, United States in 1930 and Columbus, Franklin, Ohio, United States in 1940. He died in 2022, in Griffith, Calumet Township, Lake, Indiana, United States, at the age of 97, and was buried in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, Lake, Indiana, United States.

I think, on balance, this is the saddest death of the year for me personally. Even if he was in his nineties and in failing health. An absolute legend for Wales.

    RIP

Bill Gladden dead at 100. BBC obit.

Full Beeb obits for WWII vets becoming ever more common. There hasn't been an estimate on numbers released since 2019, but I wouldn't be shocked if it was now less than 50,000 across the whole of the Commonwealth.

There's one fewer; Dilip Singh Majithia, who was 103 and served in World War Two, has died - https://www.timesnownews.com/india/who-was-dalip-singh-majithia-indias-oldest-air-force-pilot-passes-away-at-103-article-109354560

    No he's not.

Lew Chatterley is our oldest surviving caretaker or full time manager, born 1945. Took over after Branfoot resigned.

Former Irish international and player for Millwall, Sunderland and Bolton Wanderers and manager of Reading, Charlie Hurley, reportedly dead: https://safc.com/news/club-news/2024/april/safc-mourning-the-loss-of-charlie-hurley

Incredibly, dropped by The Final Whistle from their 2023 DDP team, so @Death Impends he adds to the long list of List of the Missed: https://www.derbydeadpool.co.uk/deadpool2023/celebs_H.html#hurlec

    Incredibly popular manager for Reading.

Bought the troubled but brilliant Robin Friday, 'the best player you never saw'.

Quit at halftime in his last game, the first time that had happened (and can't have happened much since)

Very sorry to learn this. RIP

Bear in  mind they're in a playoff position (5th) but the two teams just outside the playoffs could overhaul them on Saturday. Barnsley and the two teams just outside (Oxford and Blackpool) all have games against teams with nothing to play for so the form book says Barnsley are in the playoffs, but still a daft time to ditch the manager, unless you've tapped up a better one and that person's in place by 12-30 Saturday

We could do with a few more points if the EFL decide to fuck us over yet again with a 9 point deduction. If we beat Blackpool and Cheltenham remain on 41, then we'll breathe easier.

  11. Bruce Bould was CJ's 'Super' man, surprised he died off radar.

Christopher Reich was the main one I'd heard of instantly.

Had a long theatre career, appeared in Bergerac, Pink Panther and lots of other stuff. Sorry to hear this.

Rotherham part company with their manager two weeks after relegation to League one was confirmed

He was only appointed a few weeks ago clearly with his mission to be to keep Rotherham in the Championship and failed but I think no-one should have been surprised at the outcome. In an extremely competitive league Rotherham have looked like an outlier for the entire season. Though as it stands it is looking like the bottom three are all Yorkshire clubs. Well hopefully Leeds will keep the Championship flag flying for Yorkshire next season (when they will be joined by Sheffield United)

    Replaced by Stevenage's Steve Evans.

Yahoo shouldn’t be accepted at all anyway. If we’re gonna accept Hollywood Reporter, Variety, et al. copy jobs from Yahoo then we really should just accept those as QO sources and do away with Yahoo.

I don't think it's particularly fair to have, say, Variety as a standalone QO, because that's a website that covers a specific field of interest.

It's like including Autosport.com or Cricinfo etc.

Who (having failed to address the downward drift) has in turn been replaced by Bobby Wilkinson, who left Weymouth 2 weeks ago (see April 2 above)

Dowson was utterly clueless. Wilkinson a big step up. I'll definitely have to take part in next season's pool.
