I never buy the not inhaling argument for regular smokers as surely that`s how they got chemically addicted. Even if hypothetically you didn`t inhale from the cigarette it would still pollute the air and be even worse than passive smoking due to how near it is to you. I thought Jeanne Calment quit smoking when she was 117 or thereabouts.

Because he has dementia and has deteriorated recently.
-
Didn't stop Hemut Schmidt , Baronness Trumpington and June Brown getting past 90 and they smoked to a far greater age.

Bryant Donham`s book "I am more than a wolf whistle" (2022) gave her date of birth as 23rd July 1934 for the benefit of DDP obit writers. Same date also given by the New York Times and The Times in their write ups: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/27/us/carolyn-bryant-donham-dead.html https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/carolyn-bryant-donham-obituary-83z9tdhsn

She was a nasty piece of work and a sociopath as well as being rather dumb. The question is whether she played dumb and was a full on sociopath. We will never know now although after reading her book I would think she was 75% sociopath and 25% stupid. Either way good riddance. Was going to pick her but had a real concern that he r death wouldn`t be reported without a substantial delay due to protests at the funeral parlour or any memorial service for the old bag so wasn`t convinced she was still alive at the end of last yrear especially given how ill she looked and reportedly was in August.

Was tempted to pick her for Slippery Soap due to her Corrie stint as Blanche Hunt`s feisty best friend who was besotted with Ken and left Eccles the dog to Blanche but she was in her 90`s so I figured fewer points plus I thought she wouldn't be a unique for me (and I was right)

Deathlist Dreaming
Sean replied to harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I dreamt last night that Richard Dawkins died and I was irritated by the lack of mainstream media coverage. -
One of the first things I thought when I heard the news.

Gordon McQueen please?

Cleo Laine? Rosalynn Carter? Estelle Parsons?

Also his maternal grandmother lived to 96.Also his mother was 88 which was pretty impressive considering she almost got killed after being mugged at 79 causing a brain haemorrhage and permanent damage.

Especially seeing as he is struggling to be coherent these days and has to be prompted where to stand after speaking. I saw someone on BBC say they are concerned about Bidens health so he should pick John Fetterman as his running mate.Nearly spat my coffee out

Kindly qualifying himself for my slippery soap theme team for next year.

Completely forgot he was Bruce the shark.

Bill Steel the former broadcaster and actor was reportedly receiving end of life care in April 2021 and is still with us as far as we know.Whether he is still on hospice who knows but given he has end stage dementia I doubt he has improved very much (except maybe being able to eat better like Gordon McQueen ) if at all due to the progressive nature of Alzheimers.
-
They say he is "comfortable" in hospital. Sounds ominous indeed.
-
Sounds like the hospice was in November 2022 and that he isn`t eating solids but can tolerate pureed food now.

Not deadpooling but personally I knew of a lady who lived near my parents that lasted over 18 months on palliative care. She suffered a catastrophic fall in her 90s and broke several bones and was bed bound. Whilst hospitalised for the fall she was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism that could not be treated due to location age and frailty. She was up and down for 18 months before dying after contracting norovirus. I had a great Uncle also who lasted 5 months in hospice care with terminal lung cancer however those 5 months were deeply unpleasant and it was a huge relief when he did finally die.

Seeing as there is talk in the media about how many famous people we have lost this year following Victoria Wood`s death it strikes me how many have come completely out of the blue to the public (Bowie ,Rickman ,Wogan , Corbett (although he was quite old) Gest and now Wood). So I thought seeing as our comprehensive research appears to be eclipsed by quite a few complete surprises maybe we should do a kind of informal pool to guess the next unexpected celeb or "national treasure" that conks out with no warning. Here are the rules: -1 name per user -Named Celeb must be 85 or under. -The celeb can not be KNOWN PUBLICLY to be afflicted with Alzheimer`s or any form of dementia , any type of cancer, MND ,Parkinsons, diabetes,or have suffered a stroke or heart attack IN THE PAST.They must not have been in rehab or sectioned in the last 20 years also. -Unnatural deaths count as long as it isn`t expected i.e death row inmates. -Celebs can`t be obese. -If your pick announces any issues with health mentioned above that is ok as long as it was announced after you posted them. I am going for William Roache

George W Bush was abroad when Reagan died to commemorate the 60th anniversary of D-day. Presidents don`t cancel major trips just because their predecessor is on their last legs. It makes no difference where in the world you are especially in terms of addressing the nation as can be done technologically and that address will already be planned and ready to go.
